As a result of Battlefield 4’s ongoing problems, and its affect on EA’s share price and projected financial results, a class action lawsuit has been filed against the publisher on behalf of stockholders.

The suit was filed via US law firm and financial fraud experts Robbins Geller, and calls into question EA’s handling of Battlefield 4’s launch and its subsequent attempts to rectify the situation.

It is alleged that EA talked up the quality of Battlefield 4 to investors in statements during the run-up to release, leading to a rise in stock price which allowed senior execs to sell their stock for an inflated amount.

“The price of Electronic Arts’ stock steadily climbed on these statements, reaching a Class Period high of $28.13 per share by August 23, 2013 and allowing certain of Electronic Arts’ senior executives to sell their Electronic Arts stock at artificially inflated prices,” it is alleged.

The pre-release statements of Battlefield 4’s quality are claimed to be “materially false and misleading because they failed to disclose and misrepresented the following adverse facts which were known to or recklessly disregarded.”

Only EA shareholders would get this serious over an overhyped game being disappointing.

It's not just a disappointment, it's an unfinished and broken product.

It's because the game is infested with bugs otherwise thay would have been alright with it, note A.

(a) Battlefield 4 was riddled with bugs and multiple other problems, including downloadable content that allowed players access to more levels of the game, a myriad of connectivity issues, server limitations, lost data and repeated sudden crashes, among other things;

(b) as a result, Electronic Arts would not achieve a successful holiday season 2013 rollout of Battlefield 4;

(c) the performance of the Electronic Arts unit publishing Battlefield 4 was so deficient that all other projects that unit was involved in had to be put on hold to permit it to focus its efforts on fixing Battlefield 4; and

(d) as a result, Electronic Arts was not on track to achieve the financial results it had told the market it was on track to achieve during the Class Period.

This. The game was clearly rushed.

It's hard to say who's in the right. A company will naturally talk great about its products. However I don't know the extent of the bugs in the game. I'm not sure what to say

I've heard DICE wanted more time with the game, but EA didn't want to, I think maybe because EA didn't want the game to miss the holiday season. So in the end, it came and it bite them back.

@Blastoise-san: EA deserves all the hate and backlash their getting. Now I don't feel like getting Titanfall for PC now.

Not surprised. EA seriously gots to get its crap together. I've been saying this for 4 years already. They haven't released anything worthwhile since Dead Space(first game), Mirror's Edge, and maybe Spore.

What that Angry Joe is saying is right, another company that should have been sued is Bethesda for the broken Skyrim that released on the PS3 and how they handle the DLC. It took them over one year to get everything alright with the DLC, and that's only because Sony said eff it and did there work for them. One of the main reasons why Sony went with the PS4 too make it easier for them too develop on, but it didn't help DICE or EA. So this being sued should of happened a long time ago even if it isn't by the public gamers who buy these games, another thing that some of these companies do is come out with statements like. Well games are more complex today which they are and bugs are apart of our everyday business I agree, but when other companies release a game just as big if not bigger thay don't seem to have the same problem maybe because thay'll actually delay there games. And I can bet you now when the Witcher 3 comes out in 2014 it will not be an unplayable mess unlike Skyrim.

I don't see what all the hoopla is about because it is a well known fact that EA will try to make a quick buck by selling poop on a stick... The sad thing is you fools keep buying it

@banacheck
I know. Skyrim wouldn't even run on my "perfect" Xbox 360 S console unless I installed the game, presumably. Some kid I knew from school was trying to show me the game and it didn't even work, so it wasn't worth installing for like 40 min.

@MAB
Basically. I've avoided EA at all costs since they ruined Dead Space 2, and that wasn't even because it wouldn't run or anythin. Hopefully Mirror's Edge 2 works and isn't crappy...

As long as EA makes good games that actually work, there shouldn't be problem. Unfortunateky, that's not the case. EA probably didn't even look at how the game ran and started printing/selling copies. In otherwords, something this jacked up will probably need at least 1GB of data to patch up.

Well, EA just learned about the existence of karma. The hard way.

@SCAR392

Well Fifa was going to be this way regardless as its kind of EA's MO to release a reskinned version of an old game on platforms it doesn't deem worth porting the most current game too. Its one of the big reasons Fifa is still coming out on PS2.

But this year EA has had a ton of bad press

Simcity not working
The Titanfall debacle
Battlefield 4 being essentially broken
NBA live being NBA Live

Its a bit sad becuase outside of NBA Live the two main games are actually really good and dumb design decisions and rushing of the games put out some bad -products. EA reaps what they sow

Honestly, EA should have learned not to rush games with a huge vocal built-in fanbase after the whole Mass Effect 3 fiasco. This is why they were voted worst company in America two years in a row. They just don't care enough to change their business practices.

I still think that a lawsuit is an overreaction though, and will likely get thrown out.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
