I saw this on IGN, oh god, the fan boys.

This would be great for EA... If they had a shred of respect for gamers.
This sounds like DRM in the worst way possible.
"Pay us to play these games!" "Oh you want bonus content? Pay us more money!"
God forbid anyone tries to jump on this, when (not if) it's successful.
Oh god, I'm hoping these are just pessimistic thoughts...
If it turns into that people won't buy a subscription.
EA isn't run by idiots. They make lots of money. Yeah, their games have microtransactions, but even the ones where it's the worst (Real Racing 3, Dead Space 3) don't really require them in order to play them to completion. Although Dead Space in particular lost some of its charm because of it... but its not like this service would stop them.
This could act as a cool way to save money for people that want even just one retail game. Especially if people like sports games.

@moomoo I don't play fifa online, but I understand Fifa now requires you to invest a lot in microtransactions if you want to be able to win matches online

Still don't trust EA with my money. They care very little if their pursuit of cash ruins a game or not.
EA's killed far too many franchises and studios with their greed to be trusted.
I don't own an Xbox One, nor plan to, but this sounds like a good idea for EA. Moreso if they had better games, but maybe other 3rd party companies will do something similar soon.
If you ask me, thats not a good thing at all. Remember when DLC used to be a brilliant idea ? Look at it now. One idiot found a way to abuse it and now games get butchered before they are released to sell for extra cash.
Just wait till the first dev releases "subscription exclusives" and add up: Console subscription (XLB Gold, PS+) + Publisher subscription + Game + Additional content. Not crazy enough ? How about adding stuff like PS Now into the mix and make these "subscription exclusives" rentals too.
This would add up to 3 monthly fees (console, publisher, game)
Sounds ridiculous ? So did day 1 DLC back in the day, and now you can preorder DLC before you can preorder the actual game...
This can go wrong on so many levels in the future.

Very smart idea. EA knows people buy their games, so they're profiting from that.

And can you go a little faster?!

Yet somehow they'll mess it up.
Of course they will.
Everyone messes up.
Why that is still a really big deal (especially for EA) I have no idea.

Soon Xboxone users will need to do this with multiple companies. I can see Activision, UBISoft, and other big companies all doing this. Where does it end. 200 plus dollars a year for some people just to play online with anything.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
It's a pretty awesome deal. I don't know why people are having such a hard time reading the details correctly (not only this site, but pretty much everywhere). I think everyone is just automatically suspicious because it's EA and it's fun to hate big companies.

Trust me, any hate EA's gotten is completely justified. COMPLETELY justified.

Why would anyone go out of their way to 'hate' a company that has no impact on their life whatsoever?
Unless you've worked there, or have some form of work related relationship with it, there's no reason to lay in bed at night and grumble about it. So, no, the hate isn't completely justified.
EA doesn't care about it's craft enough to warrant my money, or anyone's for that matter. The fact they're willing to release broken games, hold back part of their games for extra profit, go to extreme DRM measures to make sure you don't try to pirate the game (which you shouldn't and if you do, feel bad), or flat out lie (cough cough "Next gen" Madden cough cough) about their games to get your money should be enough evidence of why.
