The title makes it seem like a bad thing, but it actually sounds pretty cool. Basically, think PS Plus free games or Xbox Live games for gold, but with EA. Here's what it is:
EA Access membership unlocks The Vault, a collection of EA’s biggest games on Xbox One ready for you to download and play. During the beta, gamers will have unlimited access to four great EA games: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4™, with more titles being added soon. That’s over $100 worth of games for $4.99 a month. You can play these EA favorites as much as you want with the click of a button.
EA Access is a totally new way for you to play more of the games you love, for less. Here’s a rundown of the additional benefits EA Access members will get:
Awesome Value– Besides the great games in The Vault, EA Access members will save 10% on purchases of EA digital content for Xbox One offered through the Xbox Games Store. From full digital-download titles like the upcoming Dragon Age™ Inquisition or NHL®15, to additional membership services such as Battlefield 4 Premium or even FIFA Ultimate Team points, it’s all 10% off for members.
Play First – Membership in EA Access lets you experience trials of new EA games up to five days before the release date. It starts with Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, but more are on the way. If you decide to buy the game, your progress will carry over so you can pick up right where you left off.
There also seems to be an annual membership for $30 a year. Seems to be an Xbox One only thing so far.
customer's calling Xbox (I work for them but on a different area inside the building) already started calling customer service mentioning this is some kind of abuse...
we have to explain it does't come from us, but from EA directly...
I don't own an Xbox One, nor plan to, but this sounds like a good idea for EA. Moreso if they had better games, but maybe other 3rd party companies will do something similar soon.
It's funny how now a days you have to buy a system, then a controller or two, plus a subscription, and then if you're lucky you get one game out of all that. What does that set you back 700$ no thank you!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I saw this on IGN, oh god, the fan boys.
>rubs temples
This would be great for EA... If they had a shred of respect for gamers.
This sounds like DRM in the worst way possible.
"Pay us to play these games!" "Oh you want bonus content? Pay us more money!"
God forbid anyone tries to jump on this, when (not if) it's successful.
Oh god, I'm hoping these are just pessimistic thoughts...

Considering EA's track record, they're probably not pessimistic. Microtransactions in a $60 game just screams gamer-friendly

You're not missing something, Lz is. $30 a year isn't so bad. It's having to pay $30+$60 from Gold that sucks. That's getting $100-worth of games for $90. :/
But again, most of their fans would have Gold anyways since the only point to most of their games are the multiplayer features...
Not too bad if you buy most of EA games. To me, it would be pretty worthless as the only EA games I care about anymore is Dead Space. It's a bummer you need to pay for Gold in addition to this.
it seems that they want to turn the "pay to play" concept into "pay to pay"
