Not at all. I've seen some people that like to believe this(and knock games with simple stories) but in reality, you don't need mega plot twists or a long drawn-out story for it to be good.

No story whatsoever is no problem for me.

It all depends on what the game designer wants to do. The reason why simple stories are made is to compensate that with the game feel. The Wario series for example all have simple stories but what makes them great is the game feel each one has. The character itself is so charming in his own way that it simply doesn't matter how simple the story is.

Kid Icarus: Uprising's story was very simple, yet it was one of the game's strongest aspects.

The story wasn't what was strong about Kid Icarus: Uprising, it was the characters. The story served only to explain why Pit was shooting what he was shooting.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I honestly don't really care about the story unless I'm playing an RPG or adventure game where the story is the main focus over the gameplay.

I only care about story when it makes up the majority of the game...so basically when I'm playing visual novels or walking sims...otherwise Gameplay generally comes first. I can't think of that many games where the story ruined the game for me. Final Fantasy 8 and 13-2 both had terrible stories, yet I enjoyed them greatly for their gameplay. Star Ocean: The Last Hope had a terrible story, but the gameplay alone made one of the most fun games I played on the 360.

I didn't like Golden Sun's story, but it was the slow-yet-stupid-easy battles that ruined the game for me. Star Ocean 3 had some of the worst plot twists I've ever seen, yet it was the broken, repetitive gameplay and environments, coupled with excessive yet necessary grinding that kept me from finishing it at the time. A lot of things that I can't stand in FF6, and the story was one of them, but I wouldn't say it was the key factor here, just that it was among the pile of crap that broke the camel's back.

I think the closest I can think of is one game where the story was so confusing I couldn't make sense of what was going on early in, so I ended up putting it down, but I forget what it was called...
