Yup. Furthermore, if Nintendo didn't matter, NOBODY would be talking about them. That's why the hate on the internet for Nintendo actually makes me laugh. As long as people still take time out of their day to discuss/complain about Nintendo, Nintendo still matters. A lot. It's only when it goes silent should you start to wonder ...

@Kodeen and what's wrong in that?

Because it isn't reciprocated. Miyamoto, Iwata, and Reggie do not care about you. Analyze and enjoy their games on an individual basis, sure, but once you become emotionally attached you can only experience heartbreak when they do wrong by you or are wronged. And heartbreak from a video game company is just dumb.

While I do understand your concern about me loving Nintendo emotionally, then again, most of us are in general. First of, I've played some Nintendo games that I didn't like overall like Sticker Star and that's understandable because they tried something different and it didn't work. If we shouldn't be emotional to the ones about entertainment or anything from reality, we won't get any sense of encouragement, no sense of passion and no sense of respect. That's why in general, we should to some extent care about this stuff as much as possible while it lasts. Sure Nintendo has disappointed many of us especially not making the next WARIO GAME!!!!!!!! XD But still we need to care to support them as much as possible.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

The Wii and (3)DS are huge though. Not to mention they own the rights to some of the most recognizable game franchises(Mario,Link,Donkey Kong and to a certain extent Pokemon). They wont become irrelevant for a long time.

Sega failed in the hardware game due to putting out too much hardware, something no one seems to be doing. They're actually doing fairly well as a software only comany after the stumble of last generation.

What was there to learn from Hudson, they never fell. They were actually doing very well focusing on digital platforms and handhelds last generation. They were bought by a larger comapny seemingly doesn't want to be in games business and would probably benefit from putting out Hudsons IPs.

THQ fell due to the collapse of the lisenced game and AA market from under them, they tried to spend their way to AAA but it didn't work .Darksiders, Saint's Row, and Homefront all did pretty well What killed the company was they spent a crap ton on Saint's Row and Homefront Marketing and deals like white castle being in homefront. Not only that but the U draw tablet sold well on Wii, so they put in a lot of RnD into a HD Twins version that flopped hard.

For your talk of the big guys not learning it seems you haven't really paid attention.

Activison makes a few lisenced games, but for the most part their actual software portfolio is very small. You have call of duty, Destiny, Skylanders, WOW, Hearthstone, and HOTS. All of these games tend to be $60 base games or free and survive off of the expanded content through the year. They happen to be the mst successful company in the industry.

EA similarly has not only slimmed their actual portfolio down, but has taken expenses of development cost by having three engines. EA Ignite which is shared upon all of the sports games, frostbite for everything else, and than what ever the sims games run. This E3 was telling of how much they seem to be overhauling thier company work flow to put out a game every year.

Ubisoft also has threw everything into one engine and has become the masters of making vaugly the same game over and over again, but they also seem to taking familar genres and plastering new paint on them. The new rainbow six game is grabbing fans of socccom and the old Rainbow six Games, The divison is destiny in a near future setting. Far Cry, Assissan's Creed, and Watch_dogs are all the same game that for whatever reason people don't get tired of. But they also support a few big titles with stuff like Wild, child of light, and Valiant Hearts.

Out of the big comapnies the only ones doing badly are japanese companies like Sqaure Enix and Capcom.
