I want one and have considered it. Was just holding out to see people's thoughts on it.

I've thought about it getting it as well. I don't have a Vita, but it would be a neat alternative.

I have a Vita, but if I didn't I would likely pick one up, especially as it's fairly cheap. A good way to play PSone classics and the top indie titles being released today (not to mention the PSP and Vita games!)

For the $70-100 it costs, you could do much worse for your gaming dollars

I thought about it but too much of the ps1/psp stuff was either missing or 50hz in the UK Store. (And the UK ones don't come with a controller - dunno about USA I know the Japanese ones do have one).

I honestly think the only draw is the low price.

  • Very few Vita games have any mainstream appeal. I hope you like budget JRPGs and VNs.
  • The Vita games that do have mainstream appeal are almost all inferior versions of PS3 games.
  • A major draw will be PS1 and PSP games, for which you will need to buy an expensive proprietary memory card.
  • Also, you need a PS3/PS4 controller, so really, you're looking at more like a $160 investment, not $80.

So unless price is your sole concern, I would definitely recommend either a PS3 or a Vita over the PSTV. PS3 for the superior versions of games with mainstream appeal, Vita for the actual PSP/Vita library.

If you are looking for something to play Vita games on a TV or be able to play PS4 games on a different TV in your house then your PS4 is hooked up too (for example the PS4 is hooked up to the living room tv and you want to play in the bedroom) then its great.

If you are looking for a multimedia device basically something to play games on and be able to watch Netflix, Amazon, WWE Network etc. for example then pass on the PS TV.

Bought a pstv for winter solstice.. the Vita has been collecting dust ever since. I love VNs and JRPGS but don't want to sit hunched over a handheld so this has been a pretty good investment for me.

I was considering it, but the proprietary memory cards and controller turned me away from it.

But that's a PS3 controller isn't it? If you want to be able to stream PS4 games via remote play you need a PS4 controller.

It's $100 and you still need a memory card. A 32gb card is $60-70.

Unless you really want to play on a TV I'd just get a standard Vita as all games will work compared to PSTV.

There are other reasons to get one. The PS3 apparently has issues with the controller that affects some PS1 games. (Like Zanac X Zanac which is pretty pricey used). About the same cost as the Vita TV. (Even then you need a method of running Japanese PS1 games). But it is on the USA PSN and I presume with the PS4 controller it should be perfect.

Problem is the other game I want is Japan only PSP (Gokumakaimura Kai - fixed version of Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins).

Thought about it just to play Persona 1 again, as it's not on PSN for PS3, for some reason. My copy is in storage. Persona 2 would be nice as well, never played it. Then, P3P, and Golden. Can you tell I am hyped for 5? Playing Persona 3 FES right now, my PS2 version is in storage, as well, so I bought the digital PS3 version. Persona 4, is next.

Comes with a memory card as well. I stand corrected on the price though. I'm an employee so I just remember what I paid.

I'm suggesting it on the merits of owning it by itself (as I don't own a Ps4) I bought it for fact that its a TV version of the vita. If you are trying to play out of the box the bundle is fine on its own. Since I'm single I don't need the remote play capabilities for the pstv. I might use them for the actual Vita on the way to bed if i ever get a Ps4 though.

Well I picked one up the other day and I have to say I am really happy with it. The only thing though is I need to get an ethernet cable for it cause when my son uses the remote play it drops every so often using the WiFi. Other then that no problems. I do have some advice if you plan on using one for remote play.

1. Don't sync a PS4 controller to the PSTV at first. Depending on how far the signal can reach your PS4 you might not have to sync your PS4 controller or even buy another one for the PSTV. For example if you live in a small apartment or your bedroom is above the main room where the PS4 is located the signal should reach the PS4 still giving you full control which you will be able to see on the screen the PSTV is hooked up to. This is great cause it means there won't be lag as there could be by directly controlling the game through the PSTV. This can be a neat trick as well to play multiplayer games where you are in sperate rooms.

2. If you are having issues with the sound like the sound fading in and out or distorted try unplugging the HDMI cable from the PS4 not the tv. I don't know why this works perhaps some techy kind of person can explain it to me but it worked for me.

I have yet to checkout the Vita library or anything of that nature but so far it's living up to my expectations.
