As a non-PS4 owner I still wanted PS+ as it's a great service.
Sure if you stop paying the £40 a year, you lose the games, but consider this, £40 is the price of a new game. I pay this once a year, and get access to 24 PS3 games, 24 PSV games and 24 PS4 games. Even if PS+ is cancelled in a year and I lose all my games, I'd have paid out £80 to rent 144 games for 2 years. Not a bad deal at all in my opinion.
Also, at risk of making some people upset, you do realize that in 2 generations, EVERY game will be digital and owned by Sony/MS/Nintendo right? For all we know, the ONLY way to play video games will be streaming them over the internet, and all the console will be is a little box with a wi-fi chip with bluetooth and a video decoder. This has already happened to the PC market, which the consoles inevitably follow, About 95% of PC purchases are digital these days. And PSNOW is just the beginning of your Sony devices being nothing but a cloud box.
In effect I'm saying, get used to it, either embrace it or keep to older generations of games, because we've been heading this way for years.
Come to think of it, Nintendo should probably jump on the bandwagon ASAP.
They really should. Club Nintendo is cool, but really doesn't cut it. Nobody is going to stay in the Nintendo ecosystem out of fear of letting go of their CN membership.
To be honest, Club Nintendo is getting worse and worse. Personally, I like the idea of that platform better than something like PS+, but they really need to step up their game and start offering more titles. Getting "coins" for games bought is, in theory, a great incentive, but getting a Virtual Console game for every three or four full-priced AAA games you purchase really isn't going to make anyone scream "good value".
I'd like to see them offering stuff like Pushmo, when it comes to their first-party catalogue, but an even better move would be to start offering great third-party indies like Shovel Knight, Guacamelee or Teslagrad.
When I get a PS4, I don't intend to get Playstation Plus, mostly because I don't enjoy renting games, nor do I like the idea of paying to get a discount. Plus I don't play games online enough to warrant paying for online access. It's not worth it to me, and I don't feel I'll need it to enjoy games on the PS4.

Now see I can get behind this answer. Best part is it you said that "It's not worth it to me". I can respect that.
