Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, a light novel crossover fighting game by Sega, is being localized for North America and Europe for PS3 and Vita.

The game includes playable characters from popular light novels published by Dengeki Bunko, such as A Certain Magical Index, Durarara, Toradora, and Sword Art Online, as well as characters from Sega games Virtua Fighter and Valkyria Chronicles. It includes arenas from various Sega games, including Sonic The Hedgehog, NiGHTS Into Dreams, Border Break, and Phantasy Star Online, among others.

UPDATE, Wed, Jul 29th, 2015

The game has been confirmed for a retail release on October 6th in North America and Europe. In North America, the first shipments of the games (and pre-ordered copies) will include a soundtrack CD. It is a specially arranged medley spanning several of the game’s musical themes, originating from multiple acclaimed series. The medley includes "Ruin and Salvation" (Valkyria Chronicles Stage, Daytime Ver.), "Abyss" (Shinobi Stage), "Seaside B-Field" (Sonic the Hedgehog Stage), and more. Vita version will also include a Collectible Outer Box. Composers include Teruhiko Nakagawa (Shinobi), Naofumi Hataya (NiGHTS into Dreams…), Kenichi Tokoi (Sonic and the Secret Rings), and Jun Senoue (Sonic Adventure series, Sonic Heroes, Sonic and the Black Knight) among others.

The PS3 version's price is $39.99, and the Vita version's price is $29.99 in North America. I am not sure about Europe's prices.

Well, I certainly did not expect this.

Between this, Jump Victory, and JoJo, it would seem that the US license holders of anime/manga are a lot easier to work with now; or, at least, that video game publishers are less weary of throwing large chunks of money at them.

..I'm still sour about not being able to get Jump Ultimate Stars in English, though.

This is awesome! Wow, these anime crossover games are really starting to pick up traction in the west. I'm so so glad publishers are finally starting to realize there's a market for them. If I had a ps3 I'd definitely pick this up.

EDIT: Holy crap Shana is in this!! F*** I NEED A PS3!

Not my bag, but super rad for fans. Always glad to see niche games make it overseas.

Ugh... the epitome of a collection of awful characters (both in design and writing) gets through to the west. Also, balancing even worse than Injustice (thanks for the correction, @Sergio151) (which is just plain broken), and cheap fanservice as the only way to justify characters getting into the game... dark times are upon us.

Thank you for the rain, Negative Nancy. It really made our parade.

@CanisWolfred Welp, most stuff popular in terms of animé nowadays is popular for shallow reasons (i.e. lots of fanservice to cover up bad writing), so it's unavoidable. Sorry.

@Sergio151 I don't need to, that's what reports are for. I've gone through a lot of frame data for moves, and I'm just baffled by how unbalanced this game is. And I do apologize for having misspelled "Injustice" (which is corrected for the sake of correctness), but nailing that as a counter-argument is somewhat pathetic, anyway.

I was under the impression you haven't played it and just wanted to complain about a game you've never played nor had any intention of paying for on a messege board. Which you did. Congratz, you win +1 internets and a nomination for an induction into the Hall of Shame. Keep up the good work!

@CanisWolfred I can't say if the game itself is fun (which is possible even with bad balancing), so don't get me wrong on that.
But I know the characters, and none of them are even close to well-written, which means there's no appeal to them. Just look at the "cast" and tell me it isn't just generic bishonen heroes/jerks + tsundere tomboys who are famous for their fanservice. That's like BlazBlue only having Jin and Noel with 10 different outfits.
And if a fighter fails at the balancing, it simply fails as a fighter, so what's left? Animated sprites?

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not ruling out that this game could be fun, or that (way too many) people like the characters presented - but not for me. All I can see is the kind of shallow (and shameful) content that is giving animé a bad reputiation even in japan, and labels otaku and hikkikomori as antisocial trash while gleefully abusing the confusion and pressure among the young generation.

1) How on Earth do you know what the balancing in this game is like? Have you played it?
2) Most people will get it because it has characters they like, and that's perfectly okay. Just because you broadly evaluate the characters as being "shallow" doesn't mean other people shouldn't like them or the shows they come from.
3) As a fan of occasional cheap fanservice, I ask that you don't sully the good name of either Life or Hometown.
4) Dark times are not upon us. A game you don't want to play is being localized. Get over yourself. Nobody is going to put a gun to your head and force you to play it (or, if they do, call the police).

With that said, I only know, like, two of these characters, so J-Stars Victory VS is more my jam, but I'm glad to see more niche stuff getting localized.

I gotta agree with Kaze on the state of anime for the most part at the moment. It's a large part of why I've all but stepped away from anime after being a big fan for a majority of my life. You get sick of having to sort through all this fan service crap to find the good stuff. I don't know how much that applies to the series of this game though. I recognize about half the cast and he's kind of got a point. Oreimo is a really meh story all the way through and is remembered for its shock value while SOA is just good shallow fun action. Shana is the only series on here I say is kind of well written. I wouldn't say it's very shallow despite sticking to tropes for the most part.

@Ralizah

1. Said it in my second post, reading frame data from pros.
2. Never said nobody should like them, that's your assumption.
3. The term "good name" is a serious stretch when it comes to todays animé as a representation for japan. Again, I never said nobody should like it, but the way fanservice is used without any context is simply shameful, and it's everywhere.
4. Missing the point. I'm clearly criticizing the flaws that are present, and that a game based so much around cheap fanservice is getting this much attention. It's pretty much signalizing that manga/animé fans don't care for good writing if there's boobs and pantyshots, meaning such "content" will inevitably become even more common.

A very well-based assumption. In fact, I think calling it an "assumption" is insulting Ralizah's ability to read...

Also, as someone who has watched a lot of 80's and 90's anime, I'd just like to say: This is hilarious. You're talking as if this hasn't been a thing for decades, and you're talking as if those shows are decent examples of overused fanservice when even shows trying to tell a decent story back in the 90's could get bogged down in cheap pantyshots, or that this game warrants some level of criticism for being a fanservice game when so many shallower games have crossed our borders in the past, while this one isn't even pretending to be anything but "a fighting game with lots of characters you like/recognize". It's like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in that regard.

You're also talking as if Anime fans have ever had a good name. Inside Japan, they've known, hated, and even feared as "otaku" since the 70's. Outsude, they were thought of as sick pervs during the hyper-violent era, manchildren and otaku nerds during the Toonami era, weeaboos during the mid 2000's, and now we're back to sick pervs again. Even when some anime was mainstream, we couldn't get a break. We never will, not unless it ever becomes "normal", and even then, there's bound to be a good number against it.

@CanisWolfred The problem with modern animé is the context. In the 80's and 90's, pantyshots were a part of japan's slapstick ensemble, and (partial) nudity was majorly a tease that resulted from direct involvement of a victim.
Nowadays, "male-gazing" is dominating animé. Conveniently low camera angles, focusing on hips/boobs/butt/thighs (even Nintendo did it with the Palutena Reveal Trailer on Smash), losing clothes for (more often than not) no reason, and "accidental pervert" moments that degenerated into excessive groping (and ridiculously erotic reactions from female characters involved) - most of this stuff got increasing attention after 2000.
Stuff like Maken-ki!, ToLove-Ru (Darkness), Kagatsu Na Yatsura, Nanatsu No Taizai, Highschool of the Dead, Kenzen Robo Daimidaler, and MANY more, even resorts to flat-out molestation and groping, and for absolutely no reason other than luring in frustrated teens. Needless to say that almost all of this is NSFW.
Yes, the 80's and 90's had their share (Agent Aika is a prime example), but barely anything ever crossed the line of displaying sexual harassment or even implied rape - look no further than Kill la kill or Sword Art Online, and you even have your idiotic naked-girl-in-prison torture number, but only for the sake of doing it, as no consequences whatsoever arise from that at all.
Hell, even shows targeted at younger audiences like Magi - Labyrinth of Magic, or Fairy Tail, show off excessive groping and the like, and in case of Magi, rarely ever raises any sort of complaint - at least not from the groped girl(s) in question.

And you tell me it's the same as before? Maybe, if you only include the ones you actually watch, but I go through about 90% of all new releases whenever the next season arrives, and I drop more than half of them because of irritating amounts of fanservice. So no, animé back then and now are largely different, and obviously so.

Is all I'm getting from your post. Pro-Tip, just take a look at pretty much anything Central Park Media published over in the United States, and you'll see that the exact same stuff you're complaining about has been a major(ly ugly) part of the medium since the 80's.
