Topic: Convincing my parents that i can branch out of nintendo - help!

Hey guys. Ive saved enough money for a ps3 slim but now the problem is my parents are saying NO, weve always bought nintendo and theres no need to start buying something else, theyre all the same. As u can tell my rents arent huge on technology, dont care about blu ray, and also state that the ps3 wont add anything to what i already have and that its not worth it to buy a ps3 when i already have a wii.

I do realize there is some truth to this. The ps3 is a video game console and so is the wii, and it is true my main incentive for buying a ps3 will be for ps3 titles and high def gaming, not for blu ray, but i still think if ive saved money on my own (and still have a lot in the bank in savings) that i should be able to buy what i want with my money. I know a lot of u may be thinking ur just spoiled (hopefully ur not thinking that though since i did save my own cash from working) but really i think i want to branch out of nintendo consoles and buy something new, and if i saved for it, i should be allowed the freedom to do so.

So, anyone going through the same thing as me? anyone got any tactics/ideas to get around this? anyone think im just being a brat/extravagant and should just drop it? (seriously, id like to know, since my parents are saying that and im saying im spending saved money while having lots in bank stock still and its ok.)

I'm sorry about you not being able to get a PS3 yet, that must really suck. I'm glad that my grandparents are even considering getting me the PS3 for Christmas. However, I do have a suggestion that might convince your parents otherwise.

Try getting the console for Christmas instead. Many great PS3 games are suppose to be out by then, wait until then and when it comes by, ask if you can get the console now.

Oh and save even more money while your at it.

@DaDun: Still a excellent possibility with me, especially since my grandparents are considering getting me a PS3. Your family must be in a much worse economic climate.

If it is, good luck even getting a PS3. If not, you'll most likely get it eventually.

If I were you, I would wait until Christmas to get a PS3 and one game you want, since you are trying to save as much money as possible.

Catch a ride with a friend to Walmart and just buy it throw away the receipt and tell your parents that your sorry " It was impulse".

Lol trust me money isnt the problem, my parents both have well paying jobs and we're in no debt that im aware of. Also, as ive said, i already have enough to buy it tomorrow, its just getting past the strict 1 console rule and no benefit of a ps3 rule lol

That said, keep praying for me and i dont know why, but im getting more envious of u and ur great looking scenario

Look, I want a PS3 badly, but I'm not going to catch a ride just to get one. He should try my approach. A more honest and more thought out way to get DaDun his PS3.

If you're still living in their house, show respect and do as they say.

Sorry for the utterly boring response, but trust me.

Since you saved the money yourself, you should be able to do with it as you see fit ... within reason of course. My suggestion to you would be to give it some time. Obviously you have the money burning a hole in your pocket, but just bank it for now and keep earning. I'd broach the subject with them after Christmas. Then they'll see this isn't just the desire for an impulse buy. I would not suggest you go the "it's easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission" route. Especially if you want to keep the PS3.

Or you can just buy it and tell your parents it's the family's christmas present from you. Wrap it up and everything and just write to family from DaDun and on christmas you get a ps3 that's for the Family. You can always work the system man,always.

Well, it was with the PS2, actually, but yeah. I had one for a while now.

But needless to say, I can get any console I want as long as the money is there.

My parents aren't crazy. If I have money, they let me buy things.

I'm sort of with Machu on this one; I was severely limited in the video games I could play when I was younger (30 minutes max per day, 1 hour on the weekends, and very seldom a new game unless it was a holiday or something educational on the PC), and in retrospect I'm very happy that my parents did that, as it forced me to branch out and keep other interests, like learning music or programming little apps myself on my computer, the latter of which relates to the career I eventually set out on.

I know how you feel. I got my Dreamcast with my own money when I was still in school. Hence my money and I was the one working 30 hours a week and going to school and getting a B average or higher and my parents were still no no no no. Car was paid for also out of my money I had been saving my allowance from 4 up. Paid my own car insurance from the start and repairs also and they always told me no. Know what I did though ? I would call them home from work everyday since I worked for a retailer that sold them. I called them everyday for probably 3 and a half weeks before they said yes.
