Topic: Capcom sending "cease and desist" letters to The Protomen band?

Capcom is sending out "cease and desist" letters to a Mega Man tribute band called The Protomen. They say the name infringes on their copyright of the Mega Man characters.

I thought Capcom allowed fans to do whatever they wanted, as long as they weren't making profit. Look at all the Mega Man fangames out there, Capcom doesn't care about them.

this kind of thing is tricky... there comes a point when a trademarked or copyrighted property must be defended else all rights to it be lost due to past precedent. that said, it's marked 'rumor', so who knows whether it's legit or not.

I don't think rights to Mega man matters much anymore.
Since Capcom aparently wants nothing more to do with the franchise.
Are they aware of the fan made 8-bit versions of MM7 and 8?
Isn't that a severe infringement on copyrites?

I can imagine this rumour was started by someone (especially) upset at the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3...
