This is one of the greatest posts ever posted. I have tried to complete that game 3, 4, or perhaps even 5 times. Every time I get so bored that I have to quit halfway through.

Same here. Granted, I loved it the first time I played, but a lot of the later dungeons are just...blah. I also hate Hyrule Field. It's big and open, has poor draw distance, and has practically nothing in it...until the night time, but that's never more than an annoyance.

Metroid Prime Hunters, a 2006 game, is my favorite game of all time, but it is a title I do feel can at least be periodically beaten out by another game. The most recent of which was Xenoblade for pretty much the second half of 2012. That RPG just blew me away. Hunters is my game though, so I'm not expecting new releases to beat it out nor do I ever expect to become entirely convinced that Prime Hunters is second to another release.

^And again, I'll gode you to take a look at Quake 2/3, since those are basically where they got most of the gameplay from. Unless you already played it and I missed it. In which case, Huh...

That's it right? I've been recommended the Quake series by a co-worker and have wanted to play into it. I can only play games on systems I've got available, so PC gaming for me is out of the question. Would I be missing something significant to the experience by going with the N64 version?

Played three games in 2013 (The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto V and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds) that I would have no problem listing among my favorite games of all time.

Of course modern games can be anyone's favorites! No game should be judged just because it's old or it's nostalgic or it's retro or it's classic... it's all a matter of opinion. Just judge a game by what it is instead of when it came from.

Yes, of course they can. My favorites are all current gen games.

I have not played that version, but it sounds like a different game from the PC original. According to IGN's review from back in the day, it sounds more akin to DOOM 64, which took the same game and made new levels that are more suitable for the N64. It sounds like it might be worth playing, even if you already have the PC original. It still sounds like the PC version is better - more enemies and stuff - so if you ever have access to a PC, I still recommend picking up the PC version if you can. For right now, though, you may as well go with the N64 version, especially since it's so cheap. Heck, I may pick it up!

Metacritic has it at 99/100, the highest rated game of all time, and those reviews came out at the same time as the game. Certainly you don't believe that nostalgia was compelling critics to say it was the finest video game ever produced within weeks of its release.

Just to put things into context, you have to remember that while OoT has an average of 99, it's only out of 22 reviews - back then there weren't many videogame magazines and websites, though the few that were there were highly professional. Games like Skyward Sword or whatever get their average out of 80+ reviews. It's more likely for games in general to get lower average ratings nowdays because they get reviewed by everybody and their uncle. By this I don't mean that OoT is overrated - it isn't and deserves all the praise.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
