I understand it is a bit silly, but that feeling is there. I also have a hard time feeling it's really worth it pay or ask for money to get other consoles that don't really have a lot that interests me from what I see. When they do have stuff that may interest me (like say JRPGs), I know it's not going to get as much focus as a Nintendo console.

That feeling suddenly goes away when you get another console.
I thought buying a PSP could be a mistake for me for the same reason, and I've played the ever loving crap out of that system.

Huh? JRPGs get more focus on Nintendo consoles? I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion. The sooner you realize that Nintendo is simply a company that wants your money, just like Sony and Microsoft, the better off you'll be. If you want a Sony or Microsoft system, get one. The idea that you are cheating on Nintendo for doing so is just, as others have said, silly.

i tend to fork over the $ for nintendo stuff whilst my son tends to get the sony stuff. we have the best of both worlds.

imho, it is foolish to feel that a corporation deserves loyalty for doing what they do. they are not family. they are not friends. the are in business to make money. if their product makes me happy, improves my life, or is necessary then i buy it. if i can find another item that does the same job cheaper, better etc, then i go for that one.

NO, I mean that I know the other competitors have more JRPGS, or at least a lot, that would entice me to buy their system. That's what I mean. I also don't really have much of desire to get another system to be honest. There is also the factor of money.

So, what you're saying is that you're using brand loyalty as a justification of why you won't spend your limited funds on other consoles?

I wouldn't say I have brand loyalty, I just prefer Nintendo consoles. That being said, every console I've ever owned since the GBC has been mainly Nintendo except for a 360 which died on me...

Anyway, I prefer Nintendo because I enjoy their first party games and their consoles are always top notch... except for maybe a few issues here and there. Microsoft and Sony have some of the best hardware, but there are no games that I find to be a "must have".

And that's absolutely fine. If Nintendo really is the best choice for you, keep with them. Just don't stop yourself buying a different, better machine just because you've traditionally bought Nintendo consoles. (Although having said that, I tend to buy Gigabyte PC hardware just because I've liked their previous products...)

(Constructive) criticism and judicious purchasing arguably do far more for improving a company than blindly throwing money at them.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

I wouldnt say I even consider brand loyalty. I can only afford one companies consoles - and I prefer Nintendo. If Nintendo went downhill, I'd probably change. I buy Nintendo consoles because I prefer their games overall, but theres no way I'd feel betrayal if I went with Sony/Microsoft. Brand Loyalty and Fanboyism is what companies love. Truth is - this generation of consoles is pretty even; it just comes down to what kind of games and experience you prefer.

For me, its just the games and the fact that their consoles are always sturdy and well-built. I buy Nintendo consoles because I enjoy them and I know that they are built to last. Nintendo consoles have been very reliable, so I don't ever have to second guess my purchase. Nintendo has never lead me astray. I could see how people would want to remain loyal to Nintendo. I don't consider buying another console as betrayal, though.

Sony and Microsoft have had mixed to bad records regarding reliability. My only Sony console was a PS2, and it suffered from the typical disc read error. The fact that one of their consoles had a widespread issue really knocked down their reliability in my mind.

Microsoft created Windows, and well, yeah. Not to mention the ring of death. Things have improved since then, but those issues still linger in my mind when considering whether or not to get a Microsoft console.

Aside from reliability, its much simpler for me. I only buy Nintendo consoles because they are inexpensive and have the games that I want to play. Also maybe its because of the Wii and older games, but I end up getting lost in the detail of many HD games. Its like they have so much detail, I get confused. Then I can't even play the game.

I feel the same way... I mean I guess I could bring myself to buy other consoles, and I actually do have a 360, but... It's the part about it feeling unjustified I agree with. I like the other consoles, but I just don't see as many consistently amazing games made each year, that I would like to have, released on them like with Nintendo consoles. I would prefer to spend the money I would on those consoles on other things, too.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fanboy or I suffer from excessive brand loyalty. Thing's simple: I'm not satisfied by other companies' consoles. I had Psx, Ps2 and Ps3, as well as Psp and I eventually sold them all because, you know what? When I play on a console that's not Nintendo I get killed by boredom. I don't know why I'm like that, and I have to say that lately I'm just playing with 3DS, and actually I've never been a big home console player, I've always been in love with handhelds since my first DMG, which I still have. I've had practically every Nintendo handheld, and I think that's the way I'll keep going on.
Yes, I'm brand loyal, but in a different way. I've never felt like betraying someone or something buying a Sony or MS console, it's just that i don't enjoy playing with their consoles, not one bit.
And that's probably better this way, more money to get what I like more

I don't think I have much brand loyalty. I just buy the stuff I think look good. My MacBook Pro for a great work computer, my 3DS/Ps3/Wii for the games I enjoy, my iPhone because it looked neat at the time (if I where to upgrade I'd probably go with a Android now) etc.

I'm surprised by the number of people saying that they don't find non-Nintendo platforms fun. I'm not one to tell people what they should and shouldn't like, but I find it highly doubtful that you're incapable of finding appealing games on other consoles.

My thoughts exactly. To say only Nintendo games are worth playing sounds absurdly narrow minded. There's plenty of good games out there on all the consoles. Sounds to me if you think Nintendo is the only good game maker and have had other consoles but hated them then you walked into those others games with your mind already made up about them and didn't give them the opportunity.

I wouldn't say that. Maybe it's just the really popular games on the other systems don't appeal to their tastes. They may not have looked at the not so popular games. For me, I just can't seem to justify buying other gaming consoles when it doesn't seem the number of games I would like just doesn't really make it worth it. Now maybe I will try it one day and be proven wrong but, I don't know, just don't see that happening soon. I may try PC when I'm older and have more money but I just don't see me buying a competitor console. Now, I want to say right now I don't just buy Nintendo just because they are Nintendo. They make quality products and art that I love. If Nintendo made crap I wouldn't buy it. I am not going to just buy Nintendo just because, I buy it because it's awesome. Now that probably where these strong feelings of loyalty come from. I criticize Nintendo all the time and understand they want money, but that doesn't mean I like they're approach and I feel they do take some pride in their company and their fans.

The other and I would say more important reason is that I simply don't have enough interest in the games released on other platforms to justify paying money for a new system. I am not saying I don't have interest in games on other systems but it's pretty few and all I can think is that it's not worth the money.

This.

There's simply not enough games that interest me on other consoles; maybe one or two at the best. Whereas there's lots of games that interest me on Nintendo's systems. I also play plenty of PC games, because there's so many of them and there's bound to be plenty that I enjoy. I don't play Xbox or PS3 simply because I'm not interested enough.

Never said that only Nintendo games "are worth playing". I've had PS3 and heck even X360, but couldn't get any fun out of it, no matter the games. I even WANTED to have fun with them, but I just can't help it. Moreover, I'm more of a handheld gamer, so I barely play with my Wii, PS360 would just gather dust, almost all my gaming time is for 3DS.
I repeat myself, I'm not saying that only games on Nintendo platforms are worth playing, just saying that games on other platforms don't attract me as much, and they can't keep me coming back to them. Nintendo platforms do, instead.

Have you ever thought that it's simply because you weren't used to them yet? That because they were something different, you're having a kneejerk reaction that says "I shouldn't be enjoying this right now?" I've gone through similar phases, and I find that once you give it more time to grow on you, you can really stick to it. There are plenty of "Nintendo quality" games out there. Shadow Complex is about as good as Super Metroid, IMO. Castlevania: SotN is even better. Ratchet & Clank is like Super Mario 64 sequel I always wanted, and Jak & Daxter is a fantastic platformer all its own. Lunar and Grandia kick the butts of any Paper Mario game. Wipeout can easily keep up with F-Zero, even if it has it's own style.

Really, there are too many good games out there for me to have stayed Nintendo-only, and it saddens me that so many never got past their kneejerk reactions to really give the good games a fair shot.
