I can't really find a better place to put this topic so I will just put it here. If it doesn't fit in the "Other Gaming" section then the admins can move it. I find the idea of brand loyalty in the world of gaming interesting. Obviously things have changed and it's not uncommon to see people owning multiple systems from the big 3. In that case I would actually consider myself out of the norm of what I usually see. I can not bring myself to buy any non-Nintendo systems, and not out of some sort of idea that the other two companies don't have ANYTHING good about them. The first reason is a bit emotional, I just can't really bring myself to simply pay money to competitors of a company that I really like. I'm okay with playing another system at someone's house or something but never really feel comfortable about owning one, even if it's pre-owned.

The other and I would say more important reason is that I simply don't have enough interest in the games released on other platforms to justify paying money for a new system. I am not saying I don't have interest in games on other systems but it's pretty few and all I can think is that it's not worth the money. Give you an example, one of the main reasons I would own a Sony console is Tekken. Tekken is coming to the Wii U so that traditional example is now sort of not useable. Even if it's only an exception I am perfectly fine with getting one exception, especially since it's Tag team. My friends have Xbox 360s and I would consider them Nintendo fans. I am not gonna be like "Y0U R a TR8T0R!! >>>:--(" but I certainly know I couldn't bring myself to do that. It's kind of sad in a way since that means I am going to miss out on some games, but I would miss out on some games anyway so it doesn't really bother me. When I get older and have my own money I might get into PC gaming a bit but if I still am holding these feelings now I doubt I am ever going to buy anything other than Nintendo. I would like to know your opinions on Brand Loyalty in video games and perhaps in general. Do you practice it? do you think it's dumb? What?

It's true, if you buy a Sony or Microsoft console, Nintendo will send little cute ninjas to kill you. I wouldn't risk betraying them.

brand loyalty : things that are dumb. I don't mind if people have brand loyalty as long as they are aware of this.

I don't buy Nintendo games out of loyalty (one or two games aside at least). I buy them because I find them largely consistently great. I've never had enough problems with Nintendo consoles, or in the case of Wii games on Nintendo consoles specifically, to get another console instead of a Nintendo one.

brand loyalty is silly. if you want to buy a console, buy it; if you want to play a game, play it. why should anyone feel bad for doing something [completely legal] that legitimately interests them? people working for the Big Three don't, and you shouldn't either. :3

i can see choosing not to purchase something you want or a game you want if you've got other priorities (food, shelter, bills to pay, children to provide for, a future to save against, etc. etc.) or if there are serious issues with quality that worry you and other options are available, but just because the idea of owning a (insert brand here) product gives you the heebie jeebies, it seems such a silly reason to limit yourself over.

Brand loyalty is ridiculous. It's OK to consistently enjoy a particular company's products if they consistently make quality things, but to buy them exclusively out of some sense of loyalty is just a bad idea.

You receive nothing from buying exclusively from one company. Quite the contrary: you're potentially denying yourself far superior products for no good reason at all. Buy whatever suits your needs best at the time, not whatever happens to be available from a given brand.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

To me it seems foolish to not buy other consoles if you have the means. I have a Wii and Xbox 360 and it has been excellent owning both. Xbox gets most my play time but the Wii has been a great ride a lot of times. I had planned on buying a PS3 but I might just wait till they hit the 150 price point. But I had this such brand loyalty when I was younger and it was to Sega. Who knows though, if Sega was still in console biz I might have different feelings about it.

I don't want to buy anything made by Sony or Microsoft because I've had a problem with those companies in the past, but if Nintendo suddenly became unreliable and I heard that another company's products were less faulty, I wouldn't have a problem switching to another company. Just because I've bought Nintendo consoles in the past doesn't mean I owe it to them to buy them in the future: I never bought the DS phat for instance (and still wonder what they were thinking when they designed that clunky thing, or why anyone actually bought it).

Nintendo has personally given me so many hours of entertainment over the years that I feel like I would be betraying Nintendo if I ever dared touch another console.

Now excuse me, I hear there's a sale for second hand Wii games going on at my local game shop.

shingi_70

No need to miss good games.

When it comes to next gen Microsoft is going to be my first thought but I wont count out getting a ps4 or steambox instead. Brand loyalty just means they become my top pick among other products and not just my sole choice.

WAT!

The games I want to play just happen to be Nintendo games. Weird how it works out.

Buy whatever you want. If you want to play good games, buy Nintendo or an Xbox. If you want an overpriced Blu-ray player that matches your glorified DVD player, buy a PS3.

...in my pants.

I never understood the point of brand loyalty outside of the realm of sports. You're not betraying one company if you buy another company's product. Your allegiance isn't there in the first place. It's not like you sign a contract when you buy a console saying that your soul is now given to the company who made it.

You must have shopped at Gamestation on April Fools day. Then that actually would be the case for you.

I have never seen a Gamestation. Nor would I be foolish enough to shop during the most foolish day of the year.

I understand it is a bit silly, but that feeling is there. I also have a hard time feeling it's really worth it pay or ask for money to get other consoles that don't really have a lot that interests me from what I see. When they do have stuff that may interest me (like say JRPGs), I know it's not going to get as much focus as a Nintendo console.

The feeling is there because Nintendo spends a lot of marketing money making you feel that way.

Not that it's a bad thing - we're all guilty of being played by the capitalist market at some stage. I buy every Tecmo Koei or Square Enix JRPG without even bothering to research first for the same reason.
