I haven't even went online with it yet. I'm at work now and only had a little bit of time to play it. I got my character to level 7 in 1.5 hours.
There is single player and you can do the missions alone, offline. It felt like an MMORPG without all the other people hoping around. It looked like even in single player a friend could jump in to your party at anytime. The enemies appear to scale to fit the size of a party, seeing as how I'm just 1 guy and there would be 1 to 4 enemies coming at me at once - unless it was a mission like "Kill 6 of the ..." There is not much of a story this far into the game. Kill, level up, collect and meet new people. Supposedly, it picks up at the end. There looks like there are a few different types of online play, 2 to 4, something like that. I didn't check any of them out yet. The player that you use in single player though you can use in multiplayer games it appears.
No problem, Chicken, just wish I were more helpful, it's real fun so far. I like the not so serious tone to it.
THIIIS GAME IS AMAZING! It's...I can't even describe it. It's one of the most engaging games I've ever played. Just played for a couple hours online.....got a soldier to level 9.
Seriously, if you own any "real" console( )/PC, this game should be a no-brainer. Absolutely spits in the face of every other half-assed attempt at cel-shading. And yes--the music rocks too.

Forgot to mention, there are 4 different people you can choose from. They all have their specialty. Melee, sniper, shotgun/rifle, then the woman is invisibility or something.
Swerd is Xboxless. I own the PS3 version...I'd be happy to console you next time your console explodes into a flame-spewing wreckage, but can't co-op with you unfortunately in the conventional sense.
And yeah, chick is sorta Spy-from-TF2-style.

hit 29 tonight. Also played split-screen co-op--FANTASTIC! Framerate hitches but overall it plays really smooth and allows for zooming/scrolling w/ right stick for full-sized, non-partner-interrupting menu-screen perusal. Very, very nice.

Sweet, I'm just about to be 16. Not got much play time, but it is Saturday and I shall be playing a while tonight and tomorrow. The only problems with the game I have noticed are the "Scavenger" missions. The last part on the sniper rifle took me at least 20 minutes to find and I walked right by it. The navigation thing was leading me to a rock and a hard place, literally (tee hee). But I love this game.
