Personally I think that the games that come out now will have less sailes then the others.
I am a fan of the GTA games, but I might not get it due to the fact that it might only be for the older systems.

less sales, inevitably so. That doesn't stop me from still buying PS2 games from time to time.
Eh~ that's true, but there are a few arguments that actually say that it helps get more sales.

I'm sorry, I may not be understanding here. I mean, if you really like/want a game, and you currently have a system it's exclusive to, for example, why would you not want to get it?
Current Gen has a much bigger Marketshare and for Games like GTAV it won't matter as the game will sale alot. Theres only a few games that I'd rather be on PS4/One and thats mostly for the livestreaming features. Still time for Warner bros to announce a port of Batman Arkham Origins.

transitional periods for consoles is probably the worst time to release games (which probably explains why 2005-2007 were such meh years for gaming) since people are less interested in new games on the old consoles but it takes a while to get a fanbase for the new consoles.
right now the answer is pretty clearly "make an indie game" though
Games like GTAV will do very well just as The Last Of Us has, also a lot of people will still be buying PS3/360 which are possible new customers for these games too.
It absolutely affects the sales numbers of games. If it's a smaller game, it will get eclipsed by the hype of the new systems. For bigger games, look at it like this:
Games that are extremely high quality usually have large lifetime sales. What I mean by this, is that games like The Last of Us and (presumably) GTA V would sell many copies even years after release had they been released earlier on. By coming out with the newer systems close on the horizon, they sacrifice those many sales (we're talking in the millions here, especially for GTA V. Its previous entry sold around 5 million copies in just its third year of release. I had sold 15 million in its first two years).

There's no way that GTA V can get those lifetime sales when the older systems become obsolete. People won't be using them anymore for the most part.
The only real counter I can think to my argument is Halo 2, the highest selling game on the XBOX, but even then it had a full year on the system, and it was a game that redefined console gaming, what with the making online gaming on a console amazing, so it had a lot going for it.
