Topic: Best Sonic Games Available for the Wii U?

Hi All,

What are the best Sonic games available for the Wii U? I will play anything that's "decent". No matter if 2D or 3D, The graphics and the age of the game etc don't matter as long as it's available on Wii U.

I know Sonic has been a round for a long time and from what I've read the Sonic games are not as consistent in quality as say Mario. So I would like to avoid buying a dud.

So what would you recommend?

Please note I would like to skip the sports crossovers, the "At the Olympics" games etc don't interest me. However I may get "Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed" even if it is inferior to Mario Kart it may make a nice change. Thank you very much for your suggestions, take care.

Best Wishes,

Edie. x

Well...there's only three games, and the only one I played was Lost World. I liked it, but from what I've heard a lot of people didn't. I wouldn't recommend Sonic Boom, though. I haven't played it, but I've seen it. Boy, have I seen it...

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

The best Sonic game on Wii U is a Wii game. It's called Sonic Colors.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

There's not many Sonic titles on the Wii U since SEGA doesn't have any plans on bringing old titles to virtual console anytime soon.

So the only title that qualifies under your specifications would be Sonic Lost World

Some really hated it, some really liked it. Personally I thought it was a pretty good ride through, there's even free DLC!

There's Sonic Lost World, and they have the first 3 Sonic games on the VC on Wii Mode.

And Wii Sonic games that can be played on the Wii U are "Secret Rings", "Unleashed", "Black Knight" and "Colors".

@edie Depends whether by "available on Wii U" you solely mean Wii U games or whether Wii games (they work on Wii U consoles) count.

In the former case:
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Sonic Lost World

The latter case:
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Sonic Lost World
Sonic Colors (Wii)
Sonic Unleashed (Wii)
Sonic 4 Episode 1 (WiiWare on Wii Shop Channel)
Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles (Genesis games put on Wii Virtual Console in the Wii Shop Channel)

All Stars Racing Transformed is a pretty solid game. No, not as good as Mario Kart, but there's quite a bit to enjoy.

Other than that, you'd be better off picking up the original trilogy on the Wii Virtual Console and Sonic Colors. There really aren't any good Sonic platformers for Wii U. Lost World was OK, but I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't heavily discounted.

If you had a PS3 or XB360, I'd almost recommend to pick up Sonic 2006 (if you could find it for $5 or less) just to be a part of gaming history.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Sonic Colors and All Stars Racing Transformed are the only ones I'd actively recommend.

Sonic Colors for Wii is your best bet, but my favorite Sonic game available on Wii U is Sonic Lost World. It clearly takes a lot of "inspiration" from Super Mario Galaxy, but does enough of its own stuff to be unique. Your enjoyment of it largely depends on whether you would enjoy spending a whole playthrough getting to grips with the controls. I love it, but a lot of people don't. There's a demo on the eShop that you can try.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed isn't as smooth as Mario Kart 8, but it's good fun.

Colors and Generations are better than Adventure.

Don't know 'bout "Generations", doubt it though (just an estimation, granted). The whole thing comes off as anachronistic and forced.

Had plenty of opportunity to thoroughly test "Colors". Flashy, yes. But that's about it. Not my thing.

Generations is the best thing to happen to Sonic in ages, IMO. The design is great, the 3D sections are some of the best in the series while also including some decent 2D stages. There's a lot of well-done nostalgic nods and references throughout the game, and it just feels like the passion project Sonic deserved at the time.

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to suspect a combination of

a) lowered expectations (Sonic has been through some diving, for sure.)
b) Pavlovian nostalgia reflex

at work behind your enthusiasm.

Even if I grant the game the benefit of doubt that it's got near perfect gameplay, the presentation puts me off. I've seen more convincing 2.5d and 3d "Sonic worlds" both by fans and by Sega themselves. :shrugs:

Eh? How is Generations forced and Adventure isn't? That game had multiple styles of gameplay that nobody asked for. On the other hand, Generations had classic Sonic gameplay and even focused on the speed that fans of modern Sonic enjoy.

@16_million - I could try to persuade you, but since you're obviouly more willing to trust a gut reaction that's not based on even a single iota of tangible evidence, rather than the words of somebody who has actually thoroughly played the game, I don't think that's even within my right.

At this point, you just deserve to miss out on something good.

Lol a game based on some weird time-travel type scenario comes across as anachronistic and forced? Well done for defining time travel!
