I got Deus Ex on Steam last September and I love it. It's one of those games that seem like they were made for me.
When I had The Conduit, online was REALLY laggy. It was kinda fun when I was able to ignore it but I can get much better experiences on the PC FPS's I own.
Yes you did. Check post 8. They said they enjoyed The Conduit.
Actually I agree with them. The Conduit is a really fun FPS. I spent around 130 hours on it and found more laughs and "WTF?'s" in it than Halo by myself and /or with friends.
Give me a break
That's great, I realize some people with 'peculiar' tastes might like certain games and that's fine.
But you said it in a manner that made it like it was being considered for the 'best FPS ever'.
To those that believe that, please, for the love of whatever God you might believe in, do not give people advice when it comes to choosing games.
I'm only going to type all this once so hopefully everyone catches it the first time.
ANYONE CAN ENJOY ANY GAME. Yes there are people that enjoyed Superman 64 and every other bad game. People like good games, people like bad games, people like okay games, there's a certain person for every game!
No game has sold zero copies!
With this realization, let's take on a distinction. It is very possible to enjoy a game and recognize it's poorly made. The same also applies the other way. For instance, I don't really enjoy Bioshock but earlier in the thread I said it was one of the best.
Why you ask? Am I just CRAZYYYY? No that's Crazy Joe but you can call him Crazy Joe.
It's because I can differentiate between my enjoyment and quality. This may sound crazy but THEY'RE NOT ALWAYS RELATED.
Relating this to my original point, it is very possible to enjoy The Conduit. I'm not doubting anyone's enjoyment, I'm not going 'OMGZ' and grabbing my 'pitchfork' as someone greatly exaggerated.
Now despite all that enjoyment, it shouldn't be impossible to tell the actual quality. Heck I absolutely LOVED Tales of Symphonia 2 on the Wii but will I ever nominate it for best RPG ever? Of course not, I can still list the problems the game had and tell it's not the highest quality RPG on the Wii, much less ever.
So when people are making 'best whatever ever' lists, people should take this into consideration. It's either that or someone gives me reasons - or heck, any reason - why The Conduit deserves 'best FPS ever' over Half Life, Deux Ex, Bioshock, Tribes 2, Quake II, Doom II, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, etc etc.
Unfortunately this is why 'what FPS game did you enjoy the most' threads are much better off. There you can say Conduit or South Park 64 and it's all good.
It may not be the "best," but Duke Nukem 3D had the largest effect on me. It was the first game that I actually bothered learning how to create maps, sprites, enemies and weapons for. Love that game.

You think The Conduit is a bad game I think it’s a really fun game. Offline or on its fun. The storyline is pretty generic but there’s a lot of generic story lines such as Lost Planet or Monster Hunter. Mega Man or Kirby. It can be found everywhere. As good as games like Bioshock? No but that’s not the point here. The graphics are some of the best on Wii and the controls are some of the best (if not the best) this generation. It also sounded great in surround sound and the voice acting was pretty fair too. The online had a few bugs but once you got into a game you never wanted to leave. Even the voice chat was pretty good too. Hell, congrats to HVS for pulling off a good FPS on the Wii using multiple Wii accessories to use in the game. (Wii Zapper and Wii Speak.) You don’t see other companies making FPSs for Wii other than Activion/Treyarch, or Ubisoft.

But in my case they are. In the sense as bad of “quality” as it is (by all means it’s not a perfect game), I look over that and find it to be one of my favorite Wii games and in my opinion one of the best FPSs. Bad taste in games? No but a pretty honest opinion.

All the hate that's towards this game is from you Alexsays and well, that’s why I said it. It’s been nearly a year of you bitching about it.

They’re better off because you don’t need “facts” or something? Forums are all based around opinions and my opinion just so happens to be The Conduit is one of my favorite first person shooters.
Most of that is you telling me why you enjoyed the game, which I already said I was fine with.

Then our thinking is a lil bit different.
I have games I enjoy and games that are well-made and sometimes those games are the same.
Not all the time though and when someone asks me which games are the 'best' in whichever category, I ponder over those that I believe are of the highest quality, not those of which my unique opinion allows me to enjoy.
That's why I hate it when people ask others for game recommendations. There's someone out there that will say some off-the-wall heavily criticized game over one like Half Life 2 cause that's what they believe.

Precisely
There are threads ONLY asking for opinions and then there are threads that ask for people to ponder over what game is actually the highest quality.
This thread was made because of the 'worst FPS ever' thread, which was designed to attain the worst-made, or lowest quality games.
Likewise, I'd expect this thread to try to create a general consensus of the highest quality FPS games, which I do not believe The Conduit is a part of in the least (which I'd explain in depth why but I think you'd consider that as more 'bitching'. )
So I think we'll have to settle for thinking differently lol
Not all the time though and when someone asks me which games are the 'best' in whichever category, I ponder over those that I believe are of the highest quality, not those of which my unique opinion allows me to enjoy.
And well that's just you not me, or anyone else.

Yet your overlooking the fact that forums are where you can express your own opinion. You obviously ignored that when I said it the first time. And btw that's a fact.
Someone can like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle over Super Mario Galaxy 2. The "quality" in this case are two different universes but still someone will like Sonic over Mario sooner or later. It's a fact that I like Conduit more than Halo or Half-Life.

Which is your opinion. Opinion. Something you can't get through your head. Everyone has one. You should get one.

Best FPS I left it at just that intentionally. It could be best quality, enjoyment factor, online, etc.
Oh I almost forgot the Nukem games Panda. How?
I remembered a really obscure FPS called. Codename Tenka. Or something like that, for psone. I remember it being really hard but fun, though I was young and broke and that prob made it way better!

I also greatly enjoyed Deus Ex at the time, but I haven't played it in many years and honestly don't remember exactly how the gameplay compared to other FPS games. But part of me wants to reinstall it and have another go, just for the heck of it.

Someone asks between the latest Sonic game and Mario Galaxy and you don't think there's anyone out there (besides me) reasonable enough to say Galaxy even though they may have enjoyed Sonic more?

No I read that the first time, and the third, and the twentieth. Opinions opinions opinions.
I've already said (in that great long post YOU must have ignored) that there's a person for every game. People will like the most random games, no matter how bad they are.
Thought this thread was about actual quality and in that universe The Conduit is a red dwarf and Half Life is a supergiant.
Only on a Nintendo site will Halo be discussed in a "Worst FPS" thread and The Conduit be discussed in a "Best FPS" thread. Funny stuff, it made me LOL. Anyways, I see people are mentioning other First Person _____?____s such as Mirrors Edge (awesome game), which I consider to be a First Person Parkour game, in this thread. So I just wanted to give honorable mention to the Condemned series as best FPSHPBU (First Person Survival Horror / Procedural / Beat em'Up) games!

@slapshot82 Condemned 2 has better graphics / atmosphere / combat and pretty much improves on the original in every way in my opinion. But I love both games. I definitely recommend it! But you should play through Condemned first if you haven't yet already.

Yeah, if these were recommendations and someone else's opinion actually mattered, I'd totally agree with you. Recommending a game solely because you liked it is a stupid idea because that person might actually take you seriously and go out and spend their hard-earned money on the damn thing. If they don't like it, you got hell to pay.
But this ain't no recommendation. This is what FPS people think is best, and "best" is a purely opinionated word based on what each individual has determined are its merits and faults, or lack there of. If someone thinks The Conduit is better than Half-Life, or whatever the hell you think is best, so what? No need to make a frickin' debate out of it. It's their opinion, and you can't do nothin' about it. What're you gonna do, try and convince them that those 100+ hours of joy never happened? That they're nothing compared to what he experienced with Halo or Half-Life? You can't change what someone has experienced, dude. He can put down whatever he wants to put down - anyone can, for that matter - and there ain't nothing you or anyone else can do about it.
Oh, and this is all about favorites. Here's a quote from the first post: "Had to do it.... after all the debate on the worst, what is you favorite of All Time?" Slapshot said it himself, and he's the guy who made the rules of this thread, he's the one in charge. Go ahead, check for yourself. That pretty much ends it all right there, so how's about we just put it all to rest and move on, okay?
Someone asks between the latest Sonic game and Mario Galaxy and you don't think there's anyone out there (besides me) reasonable enough to say Galaxy even though they may have enjoyed Sonic more?
Of course there's people that do that but who's the one to know that up until now? Yes, and that's because maybe they will like Galaxy moire than Sonic. But who knows until that person plays both of them. And like I said before people enjoy Sonic more than Mario no matter of what quality.

But who would think that a "Best FPS" topic, isn't what you think is the best FPS? Especially when you see what is you favorite of All Time? and one of mine happens to be The Conduit? Strange isn't it?
And Half-Life is good but I like The Conduit more. To be honest being a red dwarf is alright with me.
Actually, the distinction AlexSays is making between one's personal enjoyment of a game, on the one hand, and its claim to objective quality, on the other hand, is correct. It's the same in any domain where you argue over quality versus how much you liked something.
For instance: I have enjoyed many films which weren't particularly great, but certainly wouldn't be listing those in a discussion of the greatest films. I think most of us intuitively distinguish between quality--which has a real claim to objectivity in the form of being grounded in substantial aspects of the thing that one could legitimately debate--and mere preference, where you recognize that you enjoyed something while not expecting others to recognize its greatness.
That being said, it's fair for anyone reading this thread to take either interpretation of its intentions. It is titled "Best FPS," which I'd interpret as a question of objective quality, but the opening post asks "Which [...] is your _favorite?"
