can't beat the good 8 directional D-pads.
I'm with Sega on this one

1. DSi
2. GBA SP
3. 3DS
4. DS Lite (felt good, but I had to repair it at one point)
5. Wiimote (a little thick, and seem to lose accuracy with time)
I usually don't like the console ones as much, as they seem a little too big to control easily without having to move your thumb around, which feels like it slows me down, and the more I have to move my thumb around the more I tend to misplace it.
I remember the SNES's Control Pad being the best out of the bunch. It's certainly the most satisfying and precise D-Pad I ever experienced. I also liked the one from GBA SP even though it's a bit too small for my taste.
Mmhh
I have to really go and play some games on each one of these consoles to really tell, but out of the top of my head:
1. Saturn (by far, the best)
2. Vita
3. Gameboy SP
4. DS Lite (pushing it)
5. 3DS Xl (really pushing it).
I forgot just how the SNEs and GCube D pad's controllers felt (I haven't played them in a very very long time), as we all the SEGA Game Gear with which I played a lot of Sonic, Sonic 2 and the egg-shaped-ship whose name I just can't recall at this moment!!!!
In the other hand I founfd thw Wii U's one awful as well as the one form the original 3DS (I have enormous hands, grab-a-pro-basketball-with-one-hand kind of big hand).
The original NES pad.
After trying multiple cloned consoles, multiple 'replica' pads and every major console since 1985 I always side with the one that started it all.
If the controller is clean nothing plays better.
The Classic Controller did a nice job, though. Nobody makes better D-pads than the ones on 1st party Nintendo products.

I 100% agree. I could pretty much say:
1) Nintendo in general
2) Almost everything else
3) 360 D-Pad
I never really took to Sega's or Sony's D-Pads. The Sega ones are too floaty and have those weird webbings. Sony is more like four buttons then a D-pad. The 360 controller is in general near perfect...except for that evil D-Pad. In floated so much it could be used a buoy.
I actually prefer the Wii U Pro Controller over the Wii version. The Wii version makes the same mistake as Sony in putting the D-Pad in the wrong place.
