I will pick up my top 5 best d-pads ever made.

1.GBA

2.GBA SP

3.DS

4.DS Lite

5.3DS XL

What are the best D-pads you've ever felt. Granted its a little picky but the feeling of getting things pressed is really nice and I didn't mention of the original 3DS because of its paint fading out and feels a little unnatural to me atleast.

DS Lite.

It had the perfect amount of click & managed to not feel too "mushy".

I like the Saturn one that looks like the Megadrive one above. (Think I would like the SLS USB version as well but its current price is sky high).

(I don't mind the Wii Classic Controller Pro / SNES / Neo Geo CD / Megadrive 6 button that is like the Saturn one.)

My top 5 would be.

1 - model 1 saturn dpad
2 - model 2 saturn dpad
3 - saturn 3D controller dpad
4 - megadrive dpad
5 - .......

actually couldn't think of a worthy 5th, definitely wouldn't rate any of nintendo's or playstations dpads personally, circle dpads are where its at unless its a 360 controller trust microsoft to mess it up.

There are people actually liking the SEGA (and especially Mega Drive) D-Pad? And even more so than their NIntendo counterparts?
Wow. This world never ceases to amaze me.
I had a Mega Drive as a child, and while the D-Pad got the job done, it had nothing on the Nintendo ones. It was just too loose.
Heck, even the Sony ones are better, since they at least allowed for simultaneous inputs into different directions (e.g. left and right at the same time).

everyone has a different opinion so there's really no point to this.

It's to discuss people's opinions on the matter, like many, many other threads on this site and elsewhere.

The only way I could see those D-Pads being comfortable is if you have really large hands (IE not me).

GBA SP had a fantastic D-Pad. After growing up with that, the OG 3DS pad feels awful.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

I hear ya man!

Honestly, i fell the OG 3DS feels more like a prototype than a finished console. I still love it though, but I prefer the XL's D-pad over it as mentioned.

I've found Nintendo d-pads a mixed bag. I like the Wii D Pad but hate the original 3DS one. It doesn't feel right and the position is a little off given all the weight of the unit is above it. The Gamecube one is so tiny it was almost an afterthought.

Sony's d-pads don't get much love but I've always found them comfortable because of their size and very well positioned on their respective controllers. The Vita one is probably the best for very precise control but I like the PSP and PS2 ones even if they are a little bit spongy. The PS3 is my least favourite Sony pad on all fronts.

The Xbox 360 d pad is the worst I've ever used. Just horrible.
