My wife recently got me a Kindle Fire HD for my birthday, and I was wondering if there are any good ports of regular console/handheld games. I was looking forward to that Phoenix Wright collection since I've only played one of those games, but I guess that is only an iOS thing so I won't be able to get that, right? Is there anything like that available, though?

My mom just won the family an Android tablet (through a lottery thing).

It appears to be a budget model (Supersonic tablet, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. 4 Gigs of memory, but expandable), so I'm not expecting it to run anything too demanding, but do you think there might be anything good it could play?

We'll probably get Angry Birds & Candy Crush, since my mom wants to play them, but they don't appeal to me.

I'll look into some of the games @bro2dragons mentioned. If they'll work on his older device, hopefully they'll run on a newer budget device. those Destroy Gunners & early Final Fantasy games sound good.

Depends on what you like but here are a few i have on my Nexus 7 that i like (no particular order btw):

Game Dev Story - Video game developer Simulation (Free version available but worth full price)
Spirits - Kind of like a new age Lemmings (Paid game)
Kingdom Rush - Best android tower defence game imo (Free version has everything in it, you can pay for more heroes or item if you want)
Candy Crush - I don't like it but my gf and work mates are all addicted. Pretty much a cross between tetris and bust a move. (Free, you can pay to win a little)
Clash Of Heroes - GF describes it as a violent candy crush, worth picking up if you have not played it yet on DS or PC. (Paid game)
Ninja village - Awesome strategy/simcity mix up, the battles are very cool. (Free version available but worth full price)
Beastie Bay - Decent sim City/Pokemon mix up. (Free)
Magic the Gathering 2014 - Fantasy card game if thats your thing. I like it better on pc but tablet is more convenient. (Free version available but worth full price)

Word of warning about those Final fantasy games, they are over priced and some have horrible bugs, read all the reviews before you invest in any of them.

Make sure you save and shutdown games when your done as they will eat up battery if you leave them running in the background, i found that out the hard way.

Hexage creates some darn good mobile games. For a fun tile-based strategy/puzzle game, I highly recommend Everlands. Radiant is a cute space invaders clone with three campaigns, upgradeable weapons, and very responsive conttols. Both of these games have free demos in addition to the full games.

Uniwar is a surprisingly decent turn-based strategy game with a variety of gameplay modes.

I would like to add D.O.T. Defenders of Texel to this. A really good casual game and it has held my attention for months which is a miracle

I know this sounds stupid, but does the Google Play store not have of the Angry Birds games?

We finally got our new tablet, and in the Google Play store, they had big names like Tetris, Final Fantasy, Cut the Rope, Jetpack Joyride, Candy Crush, etc., but none of the AB titles (which my mom was wanting to get).

The only Rovio title they had was something called Amazing Max (or was it Magical Max)...

@RR529 The Google Play store does have the Angry Birds games, it's weird there are some games that when I search the Google Play store on my PC I can find but when I try to search for them on my Nook I can't find the games I found using my PC.

Google Play seems not to show certain titles through normal searches if it believes your device can't handle the game, for whatever reason. Try searching for the games' names directly.

When I try to actually type in Angry Birds directly, I just get a bunch of guides, AB themed Jigsaw puzzles, & copycats.

Thanks for the replies.

Is Neon Motocross any good?

What the hell can't handle a game like Angry Birds? Did you check the free section? I thought AB was free on Android...

Yeah, I looked in the top paid, top free, top new paid, & top new free sections (they only show the top 30-40 in each section), and AB wasn't in any of them.

Yeah, that was a bit of a long shot. I don't remember any apps that Google Play thinks my phone can't handle, offhand, so I can't test at the moment. You might be able to 'find' one of them by checking the "Users also viewed/installed/etc." lists... maybe. I remember that in one case, the only way I could get to one such app was by waiting for it to show up as in in-app ad in another game. :/

Are you sure you're not trying to look for and use the HD versions of the Angry Birds games on a phone, or the 'normal' versions on a tablet? (Though, I don't think it should make that much of a difference, with the latter...) You might also check your Google Play's client settings and see if there's any options to have it not filter apps depending upon whether or not Play believes your device can or can't support the app. Mine has no settings for that, unfortunately. -_- (Though if Play doesn't believe your device can support the games, I'm not sure it'll let you install them, anyway. )

@CanisWolfred:

On Android, each Angry Birds game comes in two different versions (well, four, probably, if you want to count the normal/HD version split), a free version that has ads, and a paid version.
On Google Play deciding what your devices can and can't support... yeah, it's weird. I don't know what criteria Google Play uses to decide whether or not something can be played on your devices. Some of it makes sense; for example, you probably don't want to try using the "HD"/"Tablet-optimized" versions on a phone. But most of the time, there's no real explanation given, so you don't even know why the heck they're not letting you try to play it, much less FIND it. -_-

I was trying to download Transformers Construct A Bots for my Tablet and it wouldn't show up on GooglePlay (it shows up when I search GooglePlay on my PC) so I decided to search on the Tablets browser so I typed Transfotmers Construct A Bots Android and I found a Googleplay link of the game but when I clicked on the link it said not compatible with my Tablet.

I know this really doesn't help but if you type Angry Birds Android into the Tablets search on the browser and find a GooglePlay Angry Birds link at least you will be able to confirm if Angry Birds is compatible with the Tablet or not.

Thanks for the extra replies! I'll try some of those methods tomorrow (BTW, it's a tablet with an HD display).

While I'm here, I'll go ahead and recommend Break the Bricks, by AppTap.

It has a very basic name, but it's a pretty fun Arkanoid clone, it's free, has a simple yet bright & effective look, and has 30 levels (there are ads, but they only appear between levels, so they shouldn't interfere with gameplay).

I'm not sure how well it'd work on a phone, but our tablet's screen is large enough to make controlling the paddle comfortable, without any fear of your finger obscuring the action.

I was able to find it (Angry Birds) through @HeroOfCybertron's* method, and sure enough, it said that it was incompatible with our tablet.

Not sure how that's possible, since Chaos Rings Ω is available for it, & AB sure as heck isn't more advanced...

Oh well, I found Paper Toss, which was a good time waster back on my iPod Touch, so that's nice.

Sorry for the double post, BTW.

Well, like I said, I have no idea what Google Play's criteria for deciding what you can and can't handle are. It tried to prevent you from installing it, as well, I take it?

Since you're using a tablet, though, maybe you can play online versions of the game like this: http://chrome.angrybirds.com/

(Edited, because I have no idea how my reply ended up in the middle of the quote... -_-)
