ok i decided to make this here since i know theres many who haved played the older AC games on xbox or ps3 vs the ppl who just got into the series on the wii u

anyway so whats your thoughts on the game so far now that they trailer got released?how you think the story will go(or desmonds story)

to me it seems like there trying to make him look like ezio in a way except he looks like that one prince guy from shrek -_- other then that seems cool least more pirate and ship fighting but not sure if it will have that AC feeling to it which AC3 lacked

Ubisoft is pretty impressive. This game has eight development teams working on it. Development also tarted in 2011 meaning at one point they had four different Assassin's Creed games being developed concurrently.

I enjoyed Assassin's Creed 3 very much, which seems to be an unpopular opinion. I'm looking forward to all the piratey goodness is in this one. There is a surprising lack of pirate games out there so I'm thrilled the next setting is just that.

I'm quickly getting sick of it. I understand the frustrations (I've ranted on the game at points) but calling it a bad or even mediocre game is borderline lying and it seems like people were expecting the stealth of Hitman combined with Uncharted 2 at its peak and the writing of Mass Effect. Which any fan of the series would have to admit, outside of maybe the Uncharted comparisons, that was NEVER going to happen.

Ok, we’re like 4 days away from Assassin’s Creed Rebel Collection launching, and I’m more than a little excited.

I fired up Assassin’s Creed III for the moment because I really can’t wait, and holy cow, this game post patch (v1.0.2) is legit! I remember playing this game at launch in handheld mode and it was totally fine. It wasn’t until I played docked I noticed stuttering in Boston. But now after the patches released I can take on 20 or 30 redcoats all at once, and the frame rate holds up perfectly fine. I can run and climb and swing the camera as fast as possible, and the frame rate holds up perfectly. Docked or handheld.

I never had issues with the audio of the original release myself but I know other people complained. Apparently that’s been fixed too. I can’t notice a difference but if other people are happy that’s great.

I’m astonished at two thing: 1 how great of a game ACIII is despite what people say, and 2 how great of a port it is on Switch, despite what people say. I mean it’s a really high-quality game and high-quality port. At least in its current state I feel totally confident saying that. I thought it was solid before but even I noticed the stuttering when docked, previously.

I saw the game on sale for like $15 at Best Buy today for cyber Monday and with my GCU discount that’s like 12 bucks. I already own it but it just made me want to buy the game again for that price 😂

Anyways, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, and Assassins Creed Rogue. On a handheld hybrid. This Friday.

@JaxonH I’ll definitely be grabbing my copy, but after some Christmas gift cards come rolling in. I grabbed Pokémon Sword over the weekend instead. Can’t wait to play Rogue again, though.

@HobbitGamer
Pokémon Sword is really good. First Pokémon game I managed to break level 20 on and get evolutions in. Just a really wholesome game all around.

But Assassin’s Creed- this is also a series that I have played multiple entries of, but never more than a couple hours and never got sucked in to.

What really makes this game great is the history that serves as lore. The animus database is incredible, and incredibly well written in an entertaining, but factual, manner. I love games with deep lore where you can go into the menu and spend hours reading into all the people, places, things, events, etc.

I’ve never considered myself a big AC fan, but at the same time I’ve always said I’ve never played a bad AC game. They’re all good. And I’m particularly enjoying ACIII. Like, a lot. The setting is really intriguing as someone who lives in America and holds the founding fathers and constitution in high regard.

I think being on Switch is the reason I’m finally getting in to all these games, and I imagine the same might be true for you or at least many others. I tried ACIII and ACIV on Wii U. But it’s the Switch release that has me glued to the controller. There’s just something about games being on the system. Just being on handheld is appealing enough as is, but being on a hybrid system that also functions as a console... suddenly all these games are appealing to me that I didn’t really give much of a chance to the first time. Games that I would completely ignore on other systems.

I just want to talk about this game with someone else who’s playing it but it seems so few Switch gamers care about AC, and the ones that do have moved on to other games. Hopefully I won’t miss the boat for ACIV (pun intended). Gotta play the games right when they release if you want to have discussion

I picked up AC3 a while back, post-patch, so I can't really compare to how it was in the beginning. But I was expecting the worst based on how bad the reviews were. In the end, I think it's a great port overall. I also have the game on Wii U (but only played it a little), and the Switch version plays way better than the Wii U version. The only bad thing is the sound. @JaxonH I'm not sure how you didn't notice it, but the sound is pretty compressed and "tinny" on the Switch. Not a deal-breaker for me though. I'm currently a little past the halfway point in the game I think (though that's not counting all the side stuff and DLC).

I'm also looking forward to getting AC4 down the line. That's another one I bought for Wii U but barely played.

@JaxonH Agreed on Pokémon, I’m really enjoying it more than I thought I would. Other than Let’s Go, I hadn’t enjoyed Pokémon since Diamond.

I’ve played all AC entries except Syndicate, Origins, and Odyssey. I even liked Altiar’s Chronicles. And the books. And the movie. History and it’s intersection with religion always been my favorite subjects, so it’s been great to have a franchise that melded with games. And the Tyranny DLC for III was brilliant.

I didn’t notice anything before the patch, just as I didn’t notice anything in Dark Souls. If you’re not an audiophile (which I’m not) it’s not really something that stands out (hence why they do it- most people don’t notice) but they did address the audio in 1.0.2 so, it definitely shouldn’t sound bad post patch. I’m using headphones for the game since I just got a Bluetooth adapter the other day- Steelseries Arctis 3 with Bluetooth, and it sounds great to me.

I just got to the 4th mission, and this game seems to be throwing a curve ball. The protagonist isn’t who I thought. This series is a lot deeper than I expected.

@HobbitGamer
Well, I know who I’ll be asking for advice going forward!

@JaxonH Man, I’m jealous, I wish I didn’t notice the sound, as it’s the only thing that slightly brings the experience down for me. But mostly I just forget about it after a few minutes, haha! And I really don’t get the hate for AC3 either, but I’m also pretty interested in American history, so that earns it a lot of points from me. As you get deeper in the game it really opens up and there are a ton of pretty interesting side things you can do. I’m trying to stick mostly to the story first, but I can’t wait to just do some random exploring and wandering.

@klingki
The one thing I will say is the game can be rather rigid at times. I have failed missions multiple times to the point of frustration. I’m not that good at stealth. When I first tried splinter cell blacklist I kept dying on the tutorial stage and was about to give up until it suddenly clicked and I ended up playing that game all the way through. I pushed through some of the more challenging sections earlier in the game and I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of how the game works now, Which is making things easier

@JaxonH It's funny you mention that. After my last post, I was thinking that it's been awhile since I last played AC3, and I was trying to remember why I stopped. And it was because I just hit a very finicky mission and I got super frustrated, haha. I did eventually beat it before I started my hiatus though.

My main problem is that I won't move on to the next mission until I 100% the one I'm on, with all the optional objectives, so I've gotten stuck a few times, two in particular. But I think enough time has passed that I'll try to jump back in. But yeah, some of the objectives are a little too picky I think, when you feel like you did everything perfectly but you still randomly fail because of some little thing.

klingki

JaxonH

@klingki
Ya I've given up on the optional objectives. It's too much and makes the game not enjoyable. I'm just playing it though doing the best I can and if I miss some, I miss some.

Walked in to Bestbuy today, spotted Rebel Collection on the shelf. Got excited, early release I told myself. Got up to register... and game got taken away. They accidentally put it on the shelf.

Sigh. 3 days to go.

@taeles
Ouch.

I never have luck with early releases anymore.

Footage already on YT. Seems AC Rogue is indeed a download (as expected) but as DLC update, not a separate code (which is good). Game seems to run well. No word on audio.

@klingki
So, I recently made the transition to start using a headset for nice audio, and it took about a week, but I'm starting to become more discerning with audio as a result. And I now believe I can tell the issue with ACIII audio. The main character's voice seems very low quality (odd too, since other voices and sounds seem better). Cant tell without the headphones and even then it took about a week to start noticing, but now I can't unnotice it.

Unfortunately I have to skip this. I love Assassin's Creed but this cheap practice on the cartridge will make to wait and see it somewhere on second hand sale. I will probably make a custom cover to hide that Rogue download and call it only Assassin's Creed 4.

Cheap Ubisoft is cheap.

Or I am spoiled by CDPR with their contribution to the Switch.

JaxonH

@Zuljaras
There is no download banner on the box, at least in NA. It’s basically just like Assassin’s Creed III. You’re buying 3, but get Liberation as bonus DLC download. Here you’re getting Black Flag, but with Rogue as bonus DLC download. The file size is 19gb + and that’s before the Freedom Cry DLC and other DLC, patches, etc. putting it well into the 20gb range.

They’re using a 16gb cart, and that I’m good with. What frustrates me is when devs opt for an 8gb cart for a 20gb experience. Even then I’ll still buy it because it’s a video game and I want to play it, and media format isn’t even remotely close to being a dealbreaker one way or the other, but I do share the frustration in those cases.

But given only 1 game in the west has ever used a 32gb cart, ever, in the 3 years of Switch being on the market, I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s cheap on their behalf. Because clearly it’s an issue affecting all developers across-the-board. Nobody goes over 16gb. And a lot of times they don’t even do that. So when I get a full game on a 16 gig cart I am happy. You can only expect so much when they start tossing two or three games into one package- they’re just not all going to fit.
