Only on Nintendo Life forums can a topic about Sega consoles turn into a discussion of czars and communism.

I won't be talked to that way by a starfish.

The communists were anti-czar. They abolished the position and did not use the term.

I'm glad this thread has at least been educational.

Then, the intawebz lied.

Yes, only here. The greatest forum ever.

Anyway, they did use similar systems of control.

Now, lets all agree to shut up and have a heated debate about Sega.

You off on a tangent again guys

With regards to the question, yes I would like to see Sega re-enter the console-war, but only in place of one of 'the others'. 4 home-consoles to choose from would be too much, and it would mean we got to play less games (unless you're a tech whore and have 'em all). If they ever did, the new kids on the block could well get outclassed, by the old-school boys Nintendo & Sega. Them were the days eh.

I'd like to see Sega make a console again only if it is in place of Microsoft's next console. That way, with Xbox out of the picture and Sega doomed to fail as usual, I'll not have to worry about platform exclusives anymore since I have a Wii and PS3.

@Adam

I am in favor of this proposed future.

Agreed, Sony were late to the party but they belong beside N & S in a snuggly console threesome.

Microsoft?!? Not welcome!

Yes I want Sega back in the console wars damn it. It'd be nice to have another company based solely upon gaming rather than the juggernauts that are Microsoft and Sony. If not a console, at least a handheld. I think they could steal some thunder in that market.

Agreed. I'm fundamentally opposed to media giants getting in on the gaming industry; one of the reasons I support Nintendo so strongly is that they are actually an entire company devoted to gaming. Sony annoys me with its strategic wedding of the PS3 launch to promoting its Blu-Ray format, Microsoft with its attempted unification of Xbox development and Games for Windows, and both of them commit a cardinal sin in my book when they do things like sell their console at a loss. Sure, they are big enough companies to get away with that, but it's cheating as far as I'm concerned. Until you can bring a certain technology onto the market in a profitable way, don't go subsidizing it as part of a larger agenda, it's anti-competitive (and as Adam noted, Czario is not really a Communist).

I think it's much too late for them to get back into portables. Game Gear fared well enough, but their string of failed add-ons for the Genesis followed by two failed consoles has left the company with a bad name with all but the most loyal Sega fans.

I don't see the benefit of them having their own console anyway. If you're on a Nintendo site, you probably like Nintendo's games. Isn't it more convenient for you to have all your Nintendo and Sega games on one console rather than having to buy two?

But I do agree that I'd rather a games company make a console than a general electronics company for much the same reason as Wario.

Adam, you are a genius! XD

I'm down for a new Sega system so long as they make more old school Golden Axes and at least one more Dark Wizard.

Wouldn't that work just as well with Microsoft backing out and SEGA not bothering to try consoles again? That's what I would like to happen.

Rather than having SEGA concentrate on making a new system I want them to make collections of games from the old ones that aren't Genesis! That way, I can play the Saturn games I missed out on, as well as any worthwhile Dreamcast games that actually aren't available on othe platforms.

Your humor detector is broken again, but yes, that would work.

In fact, as much as I prefer Sony to Microsoft, I wouldn't mind if Sony backed out next generation just so we can have fewer consoles. The concept of the platform-exclusive is really annoying and ultimately bad for the consumer.

The fewer consoles, the better. Two may be ideal since you'd still have some choice, and it would not be prohibitively expensive for the eager gamer to own both.

As it is now, three is just too much. I have a Wii and PS3. I barely can justify keeping the PS3, really, and there are a handful of games on 360 (all XBLA games) that I want but can't justify a third console for. Bad news for me, bad news for Microsoft, and bad news for developers who can only afford to develop on one console.

The GOOD thing about exclusive games is that they can be developed specifically for the system they're on, taking the best advantage of what the machine can do. That only really matters for PS3 and Wii exclusives now, though, since 360 can't do anything PS3 can't except overheat 10 times as often.

But you look at MGS4. It wouldn't be as good on 360, period. Needing six discs is a large part of the reason for that. Uncharted wouldn't be as good on 360 because it makes better use of the PS3's power than most games. Sames for Ratchet, Killzone, Resistance, etc. So at least you have the two better systems, Adam.

Where did you find this game. I've been looking everywhere to play it again. The only place that I know has it is in a movie theater at McAllen, Texas.

Anyway, If Sega would start making consoles again properties like The Conduit, Let's Tap, Sonic, MadWorld, House of the Dead, etc.. would be Sega exclusive forcing me to buy the new Sega console which would be a mortal sin on my Nintendo fanboyism. Still a new Sega console would be cool. Especially if they take care of Sony. I have a dislike for the Ps3.

@ Stuffy
Yes, and I definitely appreciate that, but I'd appreciate it more if there were only two consoles since I'd be financially capable of owning any console video game I want. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say that? Sadly I am forbidden Castle Crashers, Shadow Complex, Aegis Wing, etc. Stupid console wars.
