Topic: Anyone fed up with typical Arcade games at the Arcade?

Not exactly a complaint but it is pretty much the same thing in all arcades; you have your Dance Dance Evolution, House of the Dead/Time Crisis, Mario Kart GP and probably SEGA Rally.

Is there any type of game other then these actually worth looking out for anymore? The last time I thought "This is different" was when I went to Spain and found a Tekken Arcade Board (a bad port but it was still something I haven't seen before), fighting games seem to be so rare these days and although the arcade industry isn't great here....it's a place where you look forward to going in the holidays.

Thoughts and Recommendations of new arcade games.

on the rare occasion i actually get to go to an arcade, i go specifically for those kinds of games — the ones with the big cabinets, giant screens, and anything else i can't replicate at home, so i can't say that i'm 'fed up' with the types of games they've currently got on offer, no. anything else i've either already got or i can get my hands on easily and play from the comfort of my favorite chair.

At mine it's just racing game after pinball machine after light gun game with something different in between, like Sunset Riders, or 1942.

Tekken is everywhere in the arcades here. Everyone has custom characters too. Now, besides the obvious ones like Marvel Vs Capcom and Street Fighter IV...

I'm certain there are more but those are the ones that come to mind after going to the arcade with some friends a few days ago.

The Japanese always have the best arcade games.

Are those actually in America!?! Wow...

Other then, arcades, we do have entertainment cabinets which are basically penny machines.

People still go to arcades?

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

^I go every once in a while. The games there are fun. Although the only "arcade" I got is the local theater, which recent;y got Outrun 2(<3), and the local bowling Greens. I went to a real arcade twice. The first time was the greatest video game related experience of my life, introducing me to tons of different awesome games. The second time the token machine broke so I couldn't play anything and just watched everyone play Ghost Squad and Time Crisis, the only machines besides Dance Dance Revolution that worked (I think).

Well, the arcades I went to had some pretty awesome games. Mega Man: The Power Battle, Soul Edge, Primal Rage, Cruis'n USA, Xmen Arcade, and tons of pinball machines are around where I live. TBH I actually played a few of those just in the last 3 months, so I think we have some good arcade games around where I live...

I'll say! Geez man, what arcade do you visit? I might have to scope it out if I ever visit that area.

My arcade has none of the games you mentioned except for Time Crisis.(I wish they had DDR) Last time I went it had the Tron game,Dungeons and Dragons,Bad Dudes, some star wars game where you sit in a make shift cockpit,Spy Hunter, Ghost and Goblins, and a giant Street fighter 4 Donkey Kong and tons more. For $5 you could play any Wii,PS3,and Xbox 360 games available. It's pretty cool, always lots of people there.

Both arcades in my county are located in both of my county's roller skating rinks. One of them has only 3 DRIVING games (imagine playing a driving game while wearing skates) and nothing else, it had a Soul Calibur II machine for a while but it was recently removed. The other arcade actually has a dozen classic arcade machines, but half of them don't even work. The working games are Centipede, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Frogger (no sound), Pengo, and Smokey Joe. Overall, my area is rather arcade deprived even by American arcade standards.

Outside of Dave and Busters, Arcades are dead in America. I love arcades so that really dissappoints. Just as a few examples, X Men Arcade was a big part of my childhood, Time Crisis/House of the Dead 3/4 are completely awesome, LA Machineguns is one of the best shooters ever made as far as I'm concerned, I played countless hours of Soul Calibur 2 despite playing countless hours of the GCN version, Galaga/Ms. Pacman will live forever, Mortal Kombat, Outrun, NFL Blitz, GOLDEN AXE, Need for Speed Underground, Arctic Thunder has the best air conditioning, NEOGEO in general, Smash TV, Asteroids, Mappy, Mr. Do, Virtual Tennis, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, VURTUAL ON (!!!), 1943, Afterburner, Crimson Skies

Also, the arcade Mario Kart was even worse than Super Circuit.

Funny. I seemed to remember having fun.

There's all kinds of really awesome games and systems over in Japan that local arcades don't get. There's CCGs where you go to a vending machine, get a pack of cards then sit at a table that reads the cards you've got and digitally recreates them on the battle field.

There's action RPGs with digital data cards that you can use for saving character data, and come back at another time.

Western arcades are just about grapping a few coins from players. Japanese arcades are a more evolved beast.

And Australian arcades are nonexistant. They've been ripped and replaced with endless rows of "skill" testers.

Corbs

I too like the arcade Mario Kart game. They have one in the mall in the small town my wife and I go on weekends from time to time. We've had some great times on those two machines (maybe more than we should have out in public).

Plain old gamer :)

@Starlight @Mickeymac Yeah, those are all awesome! I've played them at the arcades I frequent... but I'm in Asia so that explains why I have access to them. I'm pretty sure those are in some arcades in the US but you'd have to go to specific ones which import Japanese arcade games. They're everywhere here but they're definitely not common there.

@kkslider Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 & 2 are definitely better than MK Wii, let alone Super Circuit. It's far more balanced, the input scheme is better than the Wii Remote/Wheel, if you purchase a game card it has rewarding RPG elements and, most importantly, racing up to 8 players in person - both friends and strangers - is an amazing experience.

The former is going on XBLA and the latter is on the Wii.

You know what I think is probably going to happen? I think the Arcade like games ARE going to be a better success on the Digital Download service, I mean...Japan doesn't take online as seriously as we do (or the Koreans), so the companies might as well port over these arcade experiences in those (XBL ARCADE...seems to miss the point sometimes...although we did get After Burner Climax and OutRun Arcade)...

Seriously...they'd make more money on those services...and for the rail gun shooters...just put them on the damn Wii...it'll bulk up the support for it.

Also I have Virtual On on the 360 but the online is severly lacking in menus and lobbies.

@Holy: Go play Border Break and tell me and Mac what it's like.

Yeah, I like GP as it actually feels arcadey...if anything, I wouldn't be so sure if Nintendo made it as it's that fast. (No offence to the other MK games...but they do feel slow like compared to GP)
