The Crash Bandicoot franchise is probably my favorite non-Nintendo video game series. I wasn't a huge fan of the first game, but I love Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. Even if you're prejudice against Sony games and think Nintendo is dominant, like me, I still highly recommend it to any gamer. If you're also a Crash fan, feel free to chat with me about the series.
I played it a bunch when I was a wee laddie. I remember not having a memory card, so I had my cousin bring his so I could load his file and play from there and just not turn it off for a few days so I wouldn't have to restart.
Lots of censorship here...

I didn't have a memory card for years, so I had to start over every single time.
The original was the only PS1 game I ever had (I mostly played N64, while dad used the PS1 for his sports games).
I actually forgot that I even had it, until I found it while looking through my closet a few months ago (don't worry, it was in it's case, which was in a sturdy wooden box), and all these memories rushed back! Never beat it though...
Wait! can a slim PS3 play PS1 discs? (I may be able to complete it yet...)
EDIT: it worked! Finally I might be able to beat it!
The save system is a bit archaic, though. The only save spot I found was in a bonus round in the middle of level 2 (if there's a way to save from the world map, please tell me).

Unfortunately, I think that's the only way to save. You should try Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3. They let you save at any time. They're also a lot funner.
Whenever I beat the bonus level in "Rolling Stones", it doesn't send me back to the main level (the game isn't freezing, as the butterfly in the background & the female bandicoot are still moving. It just won't leave the area).
Next time I'll have to avoid the bonus round, & hope the next one works...
EDIT: Yep, the next stage with a bonus round worked (phew). Now done with the first island.

There is no way to save on the the world map. The only other way to save is by obtaining a gem after breaking every box in a level which has to be done with one life.
Loved those games!
I think it is sad we haven't seen anything of Crash for years. But Twistsanity and The Wrath Of Cortex were pretty fun too, i think they are underrated.

I agree with this, I can't understand all of the hate for those two. They definitely weren't as good as the Naughty Dog ones, but they were relatively good games in their own right (Wrath of Cortex being the better of the two, IMO). The ones that came after Twinsanity are an entirely different story, though.
The Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games pretty much summed up my child hood when it comes to home-console gaming. Crash Bandicoot 3? Yup, one of my favourite games, period - although I'd argue that Cortex Strikes Back has the best music in the series.
I agree that Twinsanity is indeed an underrated game. Although it was clearly released before it was ready, I really appreciated its change of pace and structure. Glitches aside, a solid game. Pretty funny too, iirc. Oddly, Wrath of Cortex didn't really do all that much for me. For a start, I loathed how every boss fight was essentially against Crunch (although the elemental idea was cool) and the art style still just didn't gel right with me. There were good ideas in there, and I liked some of the level themes, but I'd definitely rank Twinsanity above it.
I also have to mention Crash Team Racing. Controversially, I prefer CTR over the majority of Mario Kart entries. Also, that story mode? Much appreciated. A great game, and one of which I'm constantly revisiting on my PS3. Nitro Kart on the other hand, I can't say was nearly as good. I found the new characters to be an odd assortment and the actual racing just wasn't up there with CTR. I enjoyed Tag Team Racing a whole lot more, but CTR still triumphs over both of them..
However, It's truly a sad day to be a Crash fan. There aren't nearly enough decent 3D platformers out there these days and I can't help but imagine the quality that still could have come from that franchise if Naughty Dog had hung on to it.
