Topic: Am I the only one who thinks Call of Duty is overrated?

I mean, you just walk in a hallway and shoot a guy followed by explosions. Is that all there is to it? Because I just don't think it's a particularly good game. (not anymore at least).

cough ...sorry...wait a second I need to find my thesaurus...ok here we are...ahem...

So let me quantify my grossly overexplained and underthought opinion. Cheap bits of American gratitude and self-importance do a minuscule amount of a job of providing a satisfactory amount of excitation to facilitate my ability to be emotionally stimulated by this so-called entertainment. The egregious use of this barely veiled nationalism is so soul-crushingly dreadful that it actively gets in the way of already pedestrian first person shooter mechanics and level design. This is impossible to ignore like a loud drunk conspicuously yelling at his football team's meaningless victories and defeats. Ignoring this boorish display is close to an impossibility, so I cannot. Furthermore, even if one were to overlook such deafening displays of American's self-importance, we must move onto gameplay. Despite some admittedly quality efforts in the past (if perhaps partially because of my expectations so horribly lowered from later installments), nowadays Call of Duty is the definition of shallow mediocrity, even by the standards of juvenile "entertainment" homo sapiens pretending to be "adults" partake in. Also, the shooting is not great. But alas, this cycle of meaningless mediocrity might never end.

Yet despite all this being so unclouded in my visionary organs, I feel as if I am perhaps solitary in my feelings towards this franchise. I am truly the one person who has seen through the looking glass to discover the factualness I am discussing now No one else has ever in the series history, EVER, commentated on even the possibility that Call of Duty's popularity might in some way eclipse its actual quality as interactive entertainment. As such, I feel like I must convey to the world what I have determined about this corporate mandated vessel of perceived quality. Today is the first day of a new world, one of which shall begin me spreading the truth to this inbecile-driven society. I will not rest until my words are spread throughout the streets, that Call of Duty is an overrated video game! The first sentient being to evolve beyond you weak-minded individuals shall decimate Activision's power over your frail minds and I shall take my rightful place as Earth's new God! Let this post be celebrated in the future the same way we revel in Christmas! MERRY SLIDERMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD...er... I mean

Is it overrated? No, keep in mind subjectivity (some ppl would say Pokemon is overrated). If the numbers are in favour of it, I won't argue with numbers.
Are annual releases in franchises becoming tiring? Definetly.

I could've picked a way less busy day to post this tbh. Just decided to before it was no longer relevant.

Yeah, CoD is overrated and has been for awhile though it does give everyone an idea when non-Nintendo consoles are being abandoned. Take Advanced Warfare for example, the 360 and PS3 versions had very little stock provided but huge numbers of the other versions hence that suggests the PS3 and 360 will be abandoned by Sony and Microsoft respectively next year.

Actually, CoD being on Wii U made me think Activision was going to do some pretty cool stuff with the franchise, that would suit the Wii U and help both the console and the game stand out(that's how I think games are on Nintendo platforms, most of the time). The CoD games are coming out so fast, that I don't think much critical and effective thinking is going into the games anymore. Advanced Warfare is basically a reaction to Titanfall, which is kind of lame for obvious reasons.

Why yes, I too am the very model of a modern major general.

Everybody keeps telling me to play the first three CoD games though. I'mma ship them to your front door.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Hahahaha... Look at any comment section for a Call of Duty game (or any shooter for that matter) and you'll realize there are tons of people absolutely hate Call of Duty. Better yet, mention it during a match of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and see what people think of the game.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I like what I've played of the newest entry in the game, but to be honest when it comes to shooters Halo, Gears, and soon to be Splatoon is far more my jam. Its funny that Activision has sort of fragmented its own fanbase by having the different COD games play differently enough that people leave from each new installment.

WAT!

The first two WW2 COD's along with the first Modern Warfare were easily some of the best FPS's of the last decade......along with MH: Allied Assault, Half Life 2, Escape from Butcher Bay, etc.

COD 2 was easily the best Xbox 360 launch game of 2005, such a massive single player campaign, still is.

That's the thing, nobody can really say COD titles are bad games, the mechanics are super tight and it's usually a very enjoyable experince. You can level complaints at the overly simplistic themes and focus on pvp, but ultimately the biggest offender is that the series has overstayed it's welcome for most core gamers, you know what your going to get, and most of us have been down that road 3 or 4 times already.

I would love to see COD go back to WW2 or Vietnam, but I don't think Activision has the balls.

It's pretty crazy to think that as of next year Half-Life 2 will be over a decade old. (Technically it already is, it launched Nov. 16, 2004.)

How many of these "I am the only one dada" are we doing? I missed the joke btw.

I still expect to wake up one day with the news that Valve just uploaded Half Life 3 to steam, just out of the blue with no warning or pre-order options.

unrandomsam

I got more enjoyment out of UT2004 than Half Life 2. (I did like Half Life 2 and can see why other people rate it highly).
