RIFT!

Yes, I saw that in GameStop tonight but it's like fifty dollars after you pay the taxes and the art style is similar to that of the first Guild Wars. I was hoping it'd have that pseudo-anime influence like that of World of Warcraft and the infamous Torchlight.

Has anyone here played Rift? I'd like to know what people think of it before I attempt to buy it please. Is it by the makers of Warcraft? And isn't there a Torchlight II on the way?

Torchlight? Infamous? An MMO? Psuedo-Anime Influenced?! Sherly, you must be confused here.

Also, calling WoW's art Pseudo anime is a bit of a stretch, and no, Rift's developer has nothing to do with WoW as far as I know, and all I know is that Trion Games is not affiliated with Blizzard.

ROFL Mickeymac, man I like you. You're so cool. What I'm trying to say is that the graphics of Warcraft and Torchlight are cartoony while the design of Rift and Guild Wars is more realistic.

The reason I asked about Rift and Warcraft is because I was reading a wonderful Batgirl (Volume 18) comic tonight and it had an advertisement for Rift that read "We're not in Azeroth anymore Toto".

@TR... my brother is the MMO fanatic, and he and his friends have currently swapped to RIFT from WoW. They absolutely love it, but other than that I couldn't tell you much else. Married guys, like myself, don't have time for MMO's at all.

I don't mind if Torchlight 2 has been pushed back to July. More time spent polishing and bugfixing means a better experience for everyone after release.

@TokyoRed What, Torchlight and WoW pseudo-anime influenced? TR, really now, anime comes from Japan and is distinct from the cartoon and graphic novel style. To clarify...

I think thats just an advertisement stab at WoW. I have seen that in a few places as well. It just another mediocre MMO thinking that they can take on WoW thats all.

Thanks for your recommendation slapshot82. Now, my only question remains. Is Rift F2P or P2P? I like the boxart for the game and I'm seriously thinking about picking Rift up when I go to buy the Dragon Nest game at GameStop later this month.

@TokyoRed: Rift is your standard MMO like WoW where you pay a monthly fee. It is probably the usual 15 bucks a month at least thats the US price not sure where your at.

@Ravage: Lol I wouldnt say I am an addict but I do enjoy WoW alot. The thing is you get alot of the new MMOs always taking stabs at WoW and after awhile its funny. Its kinda like some little burger shop coming out and saying yeah we are going to take on McDonalds lol. Yeah good luck with that.

Yes, you're right about folks being taking stabs at Warcraft. However, I'm quite convinced that Rift is a real game changer. In fact I read in one gaming magazine that lots of former WOW players have crossed over to LOTR online and Nexon's Vindictus and Dungeon Fighter have garnered tons of former WOW players as well and in light of all this it looks as if Warcraft might not remain the king of the hill for much longer. Personally, I've played Maple Story for years and I can already see myself giving it up to play Dragon Nest, Rift and Wakfu as those are by far better games although I'll always go back to it every other blue moon. Mind you, I'm not saying that the end of Warcraft has come, by no means am I saying that. It's just that the landscape in the MMO world is changing.

As for McDonalds? I'm a big Burger King/ Taco Bell/ Del Taco fan.

I could never get into WoW. Then again, I'm one of those crazy guys that plays MMOs solo, and even though they have Role Playing servers, they just aren't much fun. I just get the feeling that you need a friend to enjoy it.

Lol Mickeymac I don't like WoW either, that's just not my style. I like games like MapleStory, Mabinogi, Rumble Fighter, Lost Saga, Poptag and Wakfu. And its really better and you do play with your friends it makes it really fun.

I feel the same about WoW. Then I found Global Agenda and enjoyed it a lot. Give it a try, it has a demo!

@TokyoRed: Yeah thats true. WoW wont remain King of the Hill forever that just a known fact, nothing ever does. The thing that gets me is that these companies expect their game to do it right away like within the first few months of release. Yes WoW may have 12 Million subscribers or whatever the numbers are but that took years to amass that many do these companies think they will get 12 million within the first six months? Maybe a game with a well know IP like Starwars the Old Republic might but I doubt it.

Truthfully in the end it doesnt matter to me whos king of the hill and which one has the most subscribers. I play what I like and I enjoy it and thats all too it.

Anyway its still too early to tell if Rift will be the WoWkiller lol every MMO always have a huge number the first month of release due to the fact that everyone wants to try it out and yes they may have had a large flock of people come from WoW, LOTRO, EQ or wherever but thats normal. Truthfully I would like to see the numbers in a few months for Rifts after everyones Free month that you usually get with buying the MMO runs out thats where the true numbers are.

I remember back when Warhammer Online came out a few weeks before Wrath of the Lich King came out. The servers were full of WoW players and such but after the first two months alot of the servers were like ghost towns.

@Irken004: Yeah alot of people that I use to play LOTRO with were playing Global Agenda for a few months and they were having a blast. I was thinking of picking it up but than a few of them got into the Rift beta and it sounded like they were going to stop playing Global Agenda when Rift came out so I just stuck with WoW since I like to play MMOs with a group of people that I know.

@Tasuki, I agree with you, It doesn't matter if its the number one game or not its the fact that you yourself enjoy the game and that's all that matters. The only problem is the fact that the company may take down that online game like Kart Rider, I really enjoyed that game to bad I never will be able to play that game again.

BTW WoW always gave me the creeps, weird creatures and the females needed help.
