Topic: 7-11 Reserving PS3 Games?

Can someone tell me when the 7-11 convenience stores began selling and taking preorders on Playstation 3 games? Did I miss something. I just got an email from Sony telling me that if I reserve God of War III at my local 7-11 store, I'll get a really cool God of War III poster. This is a new one, even for me.

Now I guess I can pop in to 7-11, grab a $2 breakfast burrito, a Mountain Dew, and the lastest PS3 game while I'm at it. What's next, patio furniture and sporting goods?

Never heard of that before, but I don't have a 7-11 within probably 150 miles in any direction.

I remember seeing Atari 2600 games at 7-11's back in the day... I once was playing Mortal Kombat II at a 7-11 during an armed robbery. The perp got away with 30 bucks.... my two friends and I had no idea what went down until the clerk told us and the fuzz came.

I remember when the local convenience stores sold trading cards. They caught my eye more than this ever will... XP

Edit: An arcade machine at a 7-11? I would've loved to see that.

Apparently not just PS3 games, Splinter Cell is a PC/360 game.

Doesn't effect me, there probably isn't a 7-11 within 100 miles.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

At least since 2004, since that's where I picked up Halo 2.

Geez that made me feel old..... in the late 70's, 80's, and early to mid 90's many 7-11's and mini mart's in the US had an arcade game or two. I think when ATM's became commonplace store owners had to choose what was more a profitable and hassle free use for that space. So coin ops, with the loitering teenagers and trouble they attracted were gone in favor of the money machines. The advent of home consoles with graphics as good or better than arcade machines probably had a bit to do with it as well.

@Bikeage:
You beat me to the punch on that one. The local 7-11s were one of the regular stops for some arcade gaming back in the day. 7-11 is actually the first place i played Pac-Man, back around 1980, i guess.

And yeah, i've seen 7-11s selling games around here for the past year or more, but mostly 360 games, and usually just Madden or WWE games from what i've seen.

I remember Karnov and iirc Rygar in the 7-11 where i grew up. I believe they got rid of the machines due to loitering problems. Then again this was a time when we hung around the pay phones for our excitement.

Heh, the 7-11 in my town had Rygar for a while as well. Space Harrier was there for a long time, too. Looking back, it seemed like most of the games were from either Sega (Hang On and Outrun were also in rotation) or Konami (Contra, Cabal, Jackal); i wonder if they had some sort of deal going.

Never thought 7-11 actually had video games. Looks like I'm going to have to go outside more.

Lol yeah good times.. I basically grew up in a bowling alley and I remember the 1st time I saw the 2084 cabinet with the dual joysticks and I was hooked for life. Games actually cost a quarter back then. I remember the Ikari Warrior machine was totally abused at the 7-11 and the top of the cabinet had burn marks from all the cigarettes.

Hell I also remember the 1 hour photo mat.

hm, i always thought 7-11 to be the place that truck drivers, drug dealers, illegal immigrants, broke teenagers, and hobos hang out. not the place that you go to get 60 dollar video games

There has not been a 7 - 11 near me since the late eighties. That is kind of cool though.

My territory (sorry worked for Pepsi for 10 yrs) doesnt have a 7-11. We are dominated by CircleK, Compac and Kangaroo in town and Pilot on the Interstates. I did have a 7-11 where I grew up and I rember getting Icees while playing Contra there. That was a long time ago lol.
