I was thinking about that as well. A combination of GTS and friend codes would be a perfect solution to many of the difficulties when trading. It would seem like an important addition to the series and one that could very well be included in future games. I can't imagine Game Freak has not come up with this idea as well, seeing how international the series has become and how many trading boards there are on the internet.
