Topic: Help Linking a Family/Child Nintendo ID

I was wondering if anyone can help me. My son likes playing on his own profile to have his own saves, but I can't figure out how to get online stuff to work. Right now he is playing Pushmo World on Wii U and wants to go to the World Fair, but it needs to be linked to a Nintendo ID. My ID is linked to my profile, so I can't link it to his. I created a family plan under my ID for him to use, but when I try to link that it says something like it's using a different service and won't link that either. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to create an entirely new ID for him separate from mine, and if so, what is the point of the family thing? I remember having this same problem with a different game a while ago, and I guess we just gave up then. Thanks for any help.

@Xyphon22 NNID is for Wii U/3DS stuff; Nintendo Account is for Switch and family plan stuff.

The family plan is irrelevant to playing online with the Wii U.

To play online with a Wii U, the console just needs to be linked to one NNID, and then make sure your kid's profile on that Wii U has appropriate settings within the Parental Controls to be able to play online.

To be a member of your Switch family plan, your child either needs his own Nintendo Account (which you then invite to join the family group from your account pages using a Web browser) or to play under your account profile.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@gcunit OK, thanks. I didn't realize the Switch and Wii U used different systems because the eShop credit is shared, but that makes the error message make much more sense since that profile it can only be used on the Switch. So as this is on the Wii U, I guess I'll just check the parental controls. Thanks.
