As there's no thread for this, I'm starting one.

Anyone know how to actually get a DS to connect to a WPA router?

All the game asks me for is a WEP password and doesn't recognise WPA's.

the DS cannot connect to a router using WPA encryption. It's WEP or nothing in terms of security. Same for DS games being played on a DSi; though the DSi itself can handle WPA, the DS software cannot.

that said, i thought DQ9 had local-only multiplayer?

You can download new quests, I think. I've heard that you can't connect a DS through WPA, unfortunately.

That's rubesh. Why design software that can't actually work with, well, my router?

Any way round it?

No, as in Online questing with other players.

@Amorous Badger: if there was a way around it, people would be doing it already.

You can buy that USB Wi-Fi connection Nintendo makes.

^ that would work, provided you're not running Linux (or at least it wouldn't work under Linux as of late last year). The real Nintendo-made ones, though, are out of print, so if you can't find or afford a real one, you can probably get a generic one from Hong Kong off'a eBay. No telling how long that'll last you, though :3

Cheers, I'll check that out.
The GC controllers I had from Hong Kong two years ago are pretty solid, I'll see what the prices are. I'm not THAT keen to play DS games online, but it would be nice of me and Badger Jr at least had the option.

My router is WPA encryption as well but I went to the router settings and my router is pro enough to let me switch it to WEP :) So like if you can mess around with settings for that or something try it. :)
I've got the downloadable quests but I cant do them yet. Do you have to beat the story first?

For most of them, I think you do. You can accept #121 after everything is taken care of in Upover. That's the only one I've unlocked so far.

Exactly.

Make a temporary WEP password and save it on your DS on Connections 1, 2, or 3.

Whenever you want to connect, type the gateway of your router into the URL address and switch to WEP. It didn't take me long to switch back and forth
