One kind of random thing I hope they add is a bestiary, or at a checklist of unique monsters. One of my favorite things about Xenoblade Chronicles X was the enemy index; it was really neat to read up about all the wildlife on the planet. It would be really cool to get a feature like that added in the definitive edition. Plus, getting all 255 affinity coins was a pain without having a list of already-hunted unique monsters to check back through.

One thing I really hope they add is some evidence of the other human colonies that were supposed to exist. There were supposedly at least 9 colonies, yet we only see 2 of them.

It would be so easy for them to just add some old ruins tucked away in one of the corners on the Bionis Leg. I appreciate that kind of world building.

@Dezzy yeah I agree. I wondered about that too. They could easily write it off with a few lines here or there. Having people mention that, say, colony 2 failed because of X, Y and Z. Or something.

@Heavyarms55 @Dezzy they could just add a couple little details or lines to handwave it by the other colonies being on the other leg and that region just being a lot more densely populated than the Bionis Leg we explore in the game.

And I really hope we didn't go to both legs because that idea flies right out the window in that case ūüėā

We only go to one leg. Although I'm fairly sure it's implied that Colony 6 and 9 are the only ones left at the point of the game. So it would have to be that they WERE on the other leg, rather than ARE on the other leg.

@Dezzy ahh, okay. I didn't remember much about the colony stuff.

Given that they're constantly under attack, there should be more human settlements hidden within the Bionis. There are all those different caves going through the inside, but they never think to really use it for protection.

@Dezzy Having finished XC2, yes. The whole end to that game was a little Gainax like having only gotten as far as the end of Riki's area in XC1. I have no idea who that old guy was or what he has to do with XC1.

Didn't get far in XC1 so the only connection I noticed between XC1 and XC2 (excluding challenge battle DLC) was hearing Shulk in one of the final chapter's cutscenes so I thought the other half of Klaus was in Shulk's world and what Shulk said was during the final battle of XC1.

Well it's probably best to avoid reading too much lore if you want to be surprised. None of it is crucial to understanding the main story, because they are both self-contained. It's more of a cool lore novelty more than anything else. Although it does fill in a few holes in the original Xenoblade story that didn't entirely make sense before XC2.

I've heard this take before but it was the exact opposite for me. XC's story was absolutely perfect in my opinion and I understood all aspects of it. It made perfect sense to me.

XC2's ending confused me more than anything. It was completely unnecessary and did nothing to improve the lore of the original.

@StephanDLW

I think it added quite a bit:

It helped you understand what/who Alvis really was (the third aegis core). Which also helped understand why Shulk manages to rediscover his Monado powers even after the sword is destroyed. That made no sense the first time around. But when you realize that Alvis is the blade just like Pyra, you understand that he just generates the physical form of the weapon, so he can easily create a new one like Pyra/Mythra also do. We also now have a reason for why Zanza is so mindlessly evil and selfish. It's because he's only half of a person.

@Dezzy
Huh, interesting. Maybe you're right but I have to think this over. I'm just not sure all that extra explanation was necessary.
Like I said, it confused me more than explain things for me when I played XC2. But maybe I have to look at it from a different point of view. Not sure how I feel about it anymore to be honest.

@StephanDLW that's why XC2 ADDED to the first game's lore. It's not like they retconned anything, but playing the second game, and seeing its final stretch, gives you more info on things you learn in the first one.

Is it necessary for the story? Not at all. Does it actually change anything about the end or the characters in the game? Nope. But it does add another layer of information to the lore, and it honestly makes me appreciate characters like Alvis, and like Zanza, more.

Things I'd like to see improved:

  • Some item droprates
  • An asterisk besides NPC names when they have new things to say
  • Better quest markers on the map

Things I really, really hope they don't change:

  • Combat mechanics
  • Voice acting

I love all of your ideas,
MonadoBoy's bestiary
Dezzy's added lore, especially for the other colonies
StephanDLW's QoL improvements
and hopefully my suggestion of having more environmental zoom-outs to see and feel the world better are also part of the remake.

I really agree with this. I think they did a real good job of this; XC2 made a single, better lore out of both games, but both can still be enjoyed fine on their own, mostly. I say mostly because I also think XC had some holes that you could fill in with imagination given the information provided, but that XC2 actually filled in with lore.
When the connection was made near the end of XC2, I was really taken in with it. The expanded lore of connecting both really made it better for me, especially explaining more who and what Alvis was. And then the direct connection with Shulks voice just made it better with the implication that both endings, and really both games, were actually happening concurrently.

So, when do you guys think it will be released?
My guess would be June 2020, the month of its 10th anniversary in Japan.
Wouldn't that be perfect?

@StephanDLW I'm going to guess April 2020, that September Direct was really weird (extremely quiet about games after November). So I think a more normal Direct will come in November a day before Terry Bogard releases for Smash, we get an April 2020 release for Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and some new games get the mysterious "2020" release window that'll act as our usual fall/holiday titles.
