I loved the new character design, the girls' outfit specially remined me of Xenosaga.

As for the release date, Soraya Saga said in her twitter 2017... So it may be Holiday 2017 for Japan and 2018 for the west. If they're using the engine from X they can skip all that part at least. One of XCX's problems was that Monolith had to built a new engine from scratch.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

@Julius_Senpai Xenoblade Chronicles story has a conclusion for the main characters but they introduce something at the end that allows for more stuff in that same universe.

2 is definitely set after the first game. Anything more would be a pretty big spoiler I'm afraid.

Can you maybe explain what you mean with spoiler tags? I'm not clear how this could be set in the same universe.

Only click this if you finished the game or absolutely don't care about spoilers, peeps

At the end of the first Xenoblade Shulk basically becomes god for a short moment and completely wipes the universe the game is set in to create a new one for everyone to live in peacefully. My guess is that Xenoblade 2 is set in that new universe, so it may reference the first game at a couple points, but its setting is going to be an entirely new one since Bionis and Mechonis don't exist in the new world

What a beautiful signature.

@Tsurii

Spoilers:

But that "new world" he created wasn't actually new. They were still on the body of the Bionis. The end sequence is in Colony 9. In the distance you can see that it looks like the bodies of the Bionis and Mechonis have just collapsed into the ocean. But it's still them.

Converted from Sony to Nintendo during 7th gen and never looked back.

Further spoilers:

Correction. I just rewatched the ending. The Monado/Alvis does say to them that the new world contains many new forms of life. So it looks like it's the collapsed body of the Bionis PLUS some new stuff. So yes it could be set in the same universe. And maybe it'll connect up with Shulk and co at some point.

This game needs to drop in 2017. This is what I'm most excited for, next to Zelda of course.

So, people have managed to translate bits of the script pages that flashed by in the trailer.
-Main character is named Rex
-Red girl is Homura
-Hikari and Nia are thrown around (Hikari is theorized to be the blonde in the trailer and Nia is thought to be the cat girl on the giant leopard)
-Vandham (who, from what I can gather, is actually a recurring archetype within the whole "series") lectures Rex on "Blades" and their "Drivers"; Blades are extremely powerful, but will die if their core is damaged or if their Driver is killed.

As for "Blades" and stuff... well, I may as well just leave on a bombshell:

(I had to go to Gamefaqs to dig up the link and good grief are they flipping their collective ---- over there. So much hate and vitriol.)

Holy moly! So the blond girl in the trailer, that also has that weird diadem and glowing thing, could also be like what they show in the image?

It looks perfect to me as part of the story, and with some of the classical Takahashi plot twists.

Probably even longer than that, since the original Japanese version came out way before the US. So yeah, chances are it will come out in 2017......in Japan.

And that assumes that the development time has not benefited from Nintendo's restructuring. For all we know the localization could be in full swing already. As I don't know about you, but doesn't that trailer too well polished for a Work In Progress?

Even Breath of the Wild had some polish needed in its trailers

They may also have some extra man-power with their side work on Zelda BOTW, Project X Zone 2 etc done too.

@Luna_110 I kinda doubt there's any big twists that have been shown; most of that stuff will probably be confirmed pre-release and happen very early on.
And yeah, all bets are on Hikari/Blondie being a Blade as well.

I'm ultra excited for this game. This game is what probably swayed me to go ahead and plan for a Switch. I'm glad it's a Xenoblade sequel and not a Xenoblade X sequel, but I'm not terribly enamored with the uber-anime character models. I mean, let's not kid ourselves, X's character models were uber-anime as well.

And it's not that I don't like anime—I do. I just wanted better character models. To be fair, none of the Xenoblade games have had good character models. In fact, I'd say the character models have been the worst part of both games, in terms of visuals. The exact opposite of the enemy design and especially world design.

I think that's one thing we can be sure of: this is going to be an incredible world to explore.

If I remember right in XCX, fairly early in the game you find out everyone is in robotic bodies. I believe an NPC also mentioned that people were paying for body modifications, anything ranging from build to facial features. When taken into context, the faces weren't really that strange when you think about it (especially Lynn's, she could have simply had a preference for her look).

Yeah, echoing the sentiments of excitement for this game. Even anticipating a 2018 release in the West or delay, that's still like... 5 years sooner than I thought we were getting another xeno game.

I've skipped the Xenoblade games on Wii and Wii U (and I don't have a New 3DS). I (briefly) played Xenoblade on Wii U at EGX in 2015 but it didn't grab me in the time I spent with it.

I need someone who can get me hyped for this game. Convince me why I need it!
