So this game is awesome but anyone find it difficult? I always have to use a checkpoint. There is no way I could finish a lvl without dying. Lol

Not losing a life in a level outside the first (with it's relatively plentiful meat) is indeed tough. But I've managed the first two without continuing fairly easily. Here's a few general tips:

  • Any time you have enemies on both sides, either roll (block button + double tap direction to one side or throw them (walk into enemy). Basically try to keep your enemies coming from one direction, to make their attacks easier to block. And if they get too close for comfort despite your efforts, use your desperation attack (B+A) to make space.
  • One particular trick to minimize risk of damage from an enemy is to... just use the first hit of your combo repeatedly, without going through the rest. Especially useful on the women, who tend to use a lunging attack after getting up.
  • Assassins are the biggest threats to your health. Always be ready to drop whatever you're doing to dodge their thrown knives and take them down quick.

Yes me too. Fantastic game but too difficult. I hope they will release a patch with an easier mode available, it will be more enjoyable for me.

@meleebrawler

Some very good tips. The B + A combo. If I’m not mistaken, doesn’t that take away some life when that is used ?

@MarkTrav82 It does, which is why it should be a last resort. As are your rage modes and wolf summons (you're not invincible when doing the latter!). But no matter how badly you may want to save rage for bosses, it's always better to use it if you're on the verge of dying, because if that happens you'll lose it all.

@Fake-E-Lee well... not to be rude or anything, but i didn't really have problems getting through the game and felt the difficulty was enough to die a couple times but... either the big guy is op and i didnt know it or you guys suck... the very last boss is the only thing i would say is hella hard.... the twins are hard too but you just need to focus the hell out of one with your rage and once one is dead, ez.

@Inertiacreep Brennus is indeed very good at killing things fast, especially with his grapples, either suplexing if he's approached from behind, shoving them far forward by pressing A or if the coast is clear, pinning them by pressing down (he can also do this to downed enemies). But I'd still suggest Caradoc (the ''balanced'' guy) for learning the game, his block is stronger than the others (taking less chip damage) and he has the best range in his strikes.

The twin brothers were one of the easiest bosses for me, they only have two attacks each (a four hit combo that leaves enough time to react to each hit, and an area of effect ground pound), both of which have little range. The only real threat they pose is double-teaming you on both sides, but that's easily remedied by rolling as soon as you notice one sneaking, then you can easily hit both at once.

By the way, whenever you see the first three bosses stand in place and scream, that's them summoning more minions. So killing those can give you more opportunities to attack.

I just tried Brennus and I got past 2nd stage with him. Brennus is a lot more powerful than Caradoc all you guys stuck on 2nd stage it's probably because you are using Caradoc try Brennus.
His finishers are more brutal and fun too. You stomp on your enemy head until it crashes lol.

Inertiacreep

@LuckyLand in that case i am going to try 2nd lvl with caradoc and see what all the fuss is about....

@DiscoGentleman Can you name a 2D beat-em-up that allows either of those things? Vertical movement is more restricted because it's easier to dodge things that way, and none of the enemies (not even bosses) have things like combo-breakers that would warrant a dodge-cancel, only armour on some moves.

I feel I should re-iterate this: Brennus may SEEM like he makes the game easier at first with his faster kill times masking the need for proper defence, but as the enemies get tougher and more numerous, you'll start to notice his shorter rolls and weaker jumping skills leave him more prone to getting ganged up on.

I have successfully beat this game and the best advice I can give you is this...

-Master at being evasive. This isn't the type of game to mindlessly hack and slash to victory. In the final stages you must be ready to jump or simply move up or down constantly while attacking. You don't need to use the roll dodge if it's too clunky. Just jump out of the way if you see an enemy about to attack at a distance. You must be conservative and stingy with your health

-USE YOUR RAGE METER- Treat your rage meter like a health restoration. DON'T just save it for the boss. The Rage meter regenerates a large portion of your life bar. Also, when you die, yoour rage meter starts from scratch so you want to basically use this as soon as your health gets half full.

-Out smart the computer AI. All the bosses leave themselves open for attack. Many times I'll scroll up and down the screen waiting for the boss to attack. Once he does I'll go in and sneak in a few hits, back up, rince and repeat. Be stingy.

-DON'T BREAK BARRELS UNTIL YOU'RE LOW ON HEALTH! The secret to defeating the last boss is tricking the game. If you break barrels when being close to full health...you get nothing. When breaking barrels when almost dead you will get a full health meat. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

Cheers for the tips @Biff_ARMStrong @meleebrawler

Just started playing earlier and absolutely love It. A couple of things that confused me though. I found the implementation of the uppercut move and dash attack move to be a bit odd. Both require the same button presses but it seems to activate an uppercut you have to be really quick in pushing attack after dashing, a split second too late and it does a dash attack instead? I'm know I'm probably doing something wrong as I wasn't really playing for long. Another thing I wasn't sure about was the strong attack, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Does that only work after collecting some pick ups?

Hopefully I'll get to spend some time with it later.

Cheers.

@OorWullie I don't bother with the uppercuts or dash attacks. I focus on staying evasive. The strong attack is only when you pick up a large weapon. They last a long time and you can carry them throughout the entire level

@Biff_ARMStrong You can carry them to different levels too, provided you don't exit the stage select. Plus, some have special properties, such as draining health from the enemy, extended range via "wind-cutter" or possibly chances of instant death (not too sure about this, but a certain axe looking like a scythe seemed to inflict disproportionately high amounts of damage while dismembering with ease). Shovels can be used as heavies too, they're weak and short-ranged compared to other heavy weapons but seem to have a higher chance of stunning for executions.

I'd also like to point out that almost every boss has a particular weakness that can leave them open to damage for a particularly long time. These can vary from dodging or countering a certain attack, parrying with your shield or using something in the environment to your advantage.
