Topic: Worst possible Nintendo NX outcome (realistically)

What is your idea of REALISTICALLY the worst possible turnout of the Upcoming Nintendo NX?
Please do not ramble about Nintendo and Smartphones/tablets etc. Please.
EDIT: Lol, sorry, I guess it's more fun if it's unrealistic. All the doomsday posts are making me want SMT Devil Survivor 3,

If the NX was going to be only a 3rd Party machine and all of Nintendo development teams were instead going to help 3rd parties develop games of the system instead of making their own games. That would probably be the worst outcome

Realistically? Nintendo sees that gamers don't want their hardware anymore and stops making hardware, they shift towards being a platform that can run on non-dedicated gaming hardware like PC and mobile, and maybe they continue innovating with new peripherals for these devices.

without rambling about smartphones or tablets?
making another console that's too hard for third parties to make ports, have a low rate of game releases near launch, even fewer games that actually explore its possible "exclusive features" and name it "WiiSomething" yet again, but this time around focusing on the casual public instead of gamers

The NX is slightly more powerful than the 8th gen consoles, but Sony and Microsoft release 9th gen consoles two years after the NX, completely undermining the NX's existance

The hybrid device people keep speculating it might be. I can't see how that would be a good product.

It's slightly more powerful than PS4 and Xbone when they're about to unveil a new console, it doesn't appeal to hardcore gamers, It too hard for third parties to make game because of it odd controller, having a terrible list of games at launch, and it's still Wii*subtitle*. That will make the NX a worse failure than the Virtual Boy and that's saying something and Nintendo will probably become a third party company or a mobile only company after a failure like I described.

Games as a service, not as a product.

I was gonna post something crazy til I saw the word "realistically". Sigh. Boring.

Wii U 2. Even as someone who likes the Wii U, even from a purely creative aspect it's abundantly clear they shouldn't make it again.

Worst case scenario-- it's a tablet. They need a new console before they need a new (third pillar) portable. I hope they don't see the market they are missing with their console as the casual market.

A major manufacturing fault puts the handheld at a high risk of catching fire when charging, resulting in several deaths, a complete recall, and $100 million+ in damages and legal fees

Also, it summons literal demons and Tokyo will be destroyed in 7 days.

The NX becomes Nintendo's Dreamcast by attempting to pursue the casual market, creating a device that's somehow less or similar level of power to the Xbox One/PS4, having different architecture to these consoles and having underutilised gimmicks like the Gamepad. And not being bothered to market half of the games they publish. In other words, not learning from any of their mistakes they've made with the Wii U.

In my honest opinion though, i'm hoping the NX is a powerful handheld console. I'll just have to wait and see though.

The stupid hybrid device, or it ends up like the Wii U. Nintendo's already gearing up for that one by probably abandoning the Wii U so soon, and destroying consumer confidence.

Except that's not what the Dreamcast was. If the Dreamcast was like any other console in recent memory it would be more 360 than Wii. A decent graphical leap released early. Targeted towards the more hardcore gamer with games like Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Shenmue. But then ultimately crushed because of piracy and then further slaughtered when the PS2 launched with not much of a jump in tech but a built-in DVD player.

So if Nintendo was to "do a Dreamcast" they'd release a home console next year that's maybe twice as powerful as the PS4. Price it too high. Opening the system up a bit with slightly less strict DRM, games tied to accounts and cutting region locking maybe? And then fail entirely to support media functions as... they do anyway. Which I'd agree would probably be a bad move. But purely because console design via focus-group isn't always the best idea

A console that has a gimmick, and lack of 3rd party support.
