One of the most current and arguably most plausible rumors about the NX is it being more of an operating system than a strict piece of gaming equipment. The best thing about this is that it opens the door up for third party devices. If you don't know what that means, it means Nintendo can license NX out to any hardware maker who wants to make an NX device. Nintendo will have control over the software and digital guts, but the hardware makers would be in charge of making the devices themselves, including specs, look, as well as marketing said device. This is the same razor and blade model Google and Microsoft use for Android/TV and Windows/10. Nintendo can still make their own NX devices though like Google's Nexus line or Microsoft's Surface tablets. I can certainly see someone like Nvidia using NX to build a powerful PS4 killer, or Sharp or Samsung baking it right into their Smart TV's.
