@noobish_hat Breath of the Wild and Rayman Legends didn't throw out all of the existing characters and gameplay. I am not talking crap. I am being honest. If you want to play a "Pokemon" game that has none of the old Pokemon and uses an entirely redesigned battle system, you don't want to play Pokemon. You want to play a new or different game.

Look forward to catching all 10 million of them then (including a million one-of-a-kind legendaries). Yeah, no need for a reboot lol

If anything the number of Pokemon is one of the strengths of the newer releases vs the original. If you want a game that's essentially about catching little critters to be realistic? There needs to be a large variety of them. The more the better.

You've made up in your own head that all the gameplay needs to be thrown out, so you'll have to argue with yourself about that.

Most people don't want to play the exact same garbage over and over and over again. Pokemon has (perhaps ironically) evolved remarkably little in, let's see, TWO DECADES. It still isn't even properly 3D. And the number of Pokemon is now prohibitively high. The designs are all over the place and the world doesn't even make any sense (they used to think there were only 151 Pokemon in the entire world, but this goes up like every year... are these professors a little remedial?). They need to start from scratch with a cohesive design for the world and Pokemon, and with a long-term plan for future games.

If you think wanting a series to change and evolve means you should just play a different game... I can say the reverse to you. If you are so afraid of change, maybe YOU should just re-play the existing Pokemon games over and over.

@noobish_hat I never said I don't want the series to change and evolve, I absolutely want that. But I want the series to be refined and improved, not remade entirely throwing out everything great about it. Pokemon can be improved without throwing about all the good things about it. Pokemon is an excellent series, and it can be made a lot better. A couple examples being better writers, re-balanced single player difficulty, and improved multiplayer support in the form of better breeding, better online match making and changes in the strength of some Pokemon, nerfing some of the strongest and buffing up the weakest to make a more balanced field. These being just a couple examples of ideas I have seen or had.

What you seem want to play an entirely different game. What you described is an entirely different game. What you are saying is like saying 'I want to play Madden 2019 but I don't want it to have any of the teams from before and I want to to be about a different sport!' or 'I want to play Call of Duty but I want it to be 3rd person and use swords and bow and arrow instead of guns!' - No, you don't want a new Pokemon, Madden or Call of Duty game. You want a different game. There is nothing wrong with that, and if you are so sick of what Pokemon IS, then you should play something else instead of wanting this series to become something else. But there is a reason why Pokemon, COD and Madden continue to sell well, they have a popular formula that people like, and for those who don't like it, they can simply play something else. It's not like there aren't other options.

@noobish_hat Thing is with Pokemon - they sell like a bazillion units generation after generation. Why waste resources and potentially alienate your audience by changing something if they‘ll just lick up the same old schtick just with a different coat of paint. All Game Freak ever does is introduce new Pokémon, give us a half-baked story and introduce unnecessary fluff like Mega-Evolutions or Z-Moves to 'keep things fresh'. Also the reason Gen 1 lore doesn‘t make much sense in hindsight is, well, none of the devs expected Pokemon to blow up the way that it did. They prob thought of it more like one and done deal.
I do agree that things need to change, though, without starting over from scratch. You‘ll need to keep all the mons, regions, established lore and the basic battle system intact and grow from there. Without them, you‘ll definitely alienate and freak out your audience. Sure, some will make the jump but you can bet everything you own on that it won‘t have too bright of an image pre-release, hurting its perception and sales potential.

@GoldenGamer88 From what I have read, they planned 1 sequel originally, that is all. Specifically something like 190 Pokemon were originally created and most of the unused designed were kept for the sequels that became Gold and Silver.

Do you think I'm someone else? All I've ever said is the game needs rebooting and the existing Pokemon need to be scrapped. Why do you think I want the gameplay entirely changed, and why do you think Madden covering an entirely different sport to be an apt analogy? It's poppycock. If you think Pokemon should be as redundant as the joke that is yearly Madden updates, than we are talking at cross purposes, because that is such a braindead desire I can't even respond.

What you're saying is akin to claiming that Pokemon Sun and Moon are still Pokemon games even if they have new Pokemon, but if you removed the OLD Pokemon from those games, suddenly it's a completely different game. You see how stupid it is?

You keep telling me to play a different game. First, don't tell people what to play (a. it makes you sound ridiculous, b. you have no control over what people play anyway, so it's a pointless response). Second, I've already been doing that for many years, voting with my wallet. Pokemon is self-derivative pap, and Game Freak can have my money when they exercise some imagination (you know, like they did when they originally came up with Pokemon).

@noobish_hat You tell me not to tell you what to play, then you turn around and call other games essentially crap because you don't like them and admit you don't even play Pokemon anymore. You know what, I am sorry I wasted both of our time with this meaningless conversation. Let's call this done. We are not going to see eye to eye.

@Meowpheel
People who have uncritically stuck by an unchanging series for 20 years don't want it to change. Well done, that's the most pointless statement ever. Have a cookie.

Aw someone woke up cranky today? Don't worry, you opinion is still valuable and important, you're just barking at the wrong tree.

I too have unpopular opinions from time to time, so I know it can be frustrating, but lets remain cordial, ok?
