Topic: Why did Nintendo Not Ship More Consoles to their vendors?

This is the stupidest thing I have seen in a long time. Nintendo has been marketing the new Nintendo Switch console for so long now I cannot remember when I watched the first video on YouTube. My interest was peaked from the first moment I saw the Switch YouTube video. However, when Nintendo sent out the pre-order email the console was sold out everywhere. Now the new console has released and again every store, both brick-and-mortar and online stores who carry the Nintendo Switch have no availability and do not allow orders when they come available. This by far is the worse scenario a company like this could have, because the interest for this new platform is so high, but they do not have any stock available. Why? It will make many investors worry they have production issues or some other issue that would hurt the new consoles launch. I am very frustrated Nintendo would screw this up so much, it makes me think I will just wait until the console has its first or second update so I am sure any kinks are worked out. What a shame, something so exciting coming out, but absolutely no inventory available when I look online or at stores.

This is standard fare for new consoles.

It was same way for Wii U, PS4 and Wii. Can't speak to Xbox One cause that was a disaster but, usually new consoles simply have more demand than they can realistically supply at launch.

The question isn't if it will sell out at launch, the question is for how long. Wii was OOS for 6 months, PS4 was OOS for a couple months and Wii U was about a month, month and a half.

When I was picking up my system this morning at the Best Buy in Delafield, WI, I had 4 people ahead of me ( I didn't get there right when the store opened). When it was my turn I looked over and saw stack of 18 Switches in the pick up area. That's a ton for a store that's in a very small city.

Also, most stores had extra stock for people without pre-orders, but you have to get in line because there's too much demand. I wouldn't expect to see stock freely until at least mid April or around the time Mario Kart 8 releases.

Why didn't you pre order? Also many stores had stock on hand for walk-ins. Nintendo has tried pretty hard to meet demand. Calm down, take a breath and remember. It is only a game system. You won't die or go hungry. You'll get one eventually.

Many of us tried to pre order, but those were gone within minutes of them going live. Not to mention in Canada options are ~extremely~ limited on who offered it. While I do agree it is not something to get hyper about, but on the flip side, there should have been more systems ready for launch for those who wont cave into the scalpers.

How old are you? Not speaking to offend, but just wondering how many console releases you've been around for.

I remember the N64 launch, for example. I was probably in middle school or so. You couldn't find that thing anywhere. My dad and I were just walking around in Kmart randomly one day, and they had one in the back! My parents were trying to get it for me for a Christmas present, but it was impossible to find, and there it was just staring us in the face! So, even though it kind of ruined the magic of opening it on Christmas morning, my dad bought it because he knew he wouldn't find one again for a long time.

And when the 360 came out my friend and I staked out every Target, WalMart, Gamestop within 50 miles for weeks. We'd get up early every morning, line up in the hopes that SOMEBODY would have one lol Nope. Had to wait a few months until stock finally settled.

It's just the way console launches go, no matter the company. I couldn't find a PS4 for months, either, but I didn't pre-order so I just accepted that was my fate haha It sucks, but it's the way it goes.

I hope they get more in stock soon. I have money saved but no console to buy.
