Can anybody tell me why i seriously can not enjoy skyrim? I do like open world genre as well as finishing quests and levelling up, but just i feel everything in Skyrim is so slow and the fighting battles are no fun at all. Am i doing something wrong? I choosed a Khajjit to begin with and i am currently at Level 8, but it seems i am loosing a lot of fights even to simple enemies. I loved zelda for its open world and quest approach and also other games like GTA i finished mutliple times. I feel i missed something in skyrim, thats why i even consider selling it again.

Why would you have bought it a second time if you didn't enjoy it the first time?

You can't force yourself to enjoy something just because others do, and you certainly don't need the approval of others in order to enjoy your hobby. It's not rocket science. If you don't like it, move on to something else.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

I didn't enjoy Skyrim on the 360 but after giving it another chance on Switch I am really enjoying it.

As for you, maybe you just don't like those types of games like Skyrim.

Because The Witcher 3 is better.

As a relative Skyrim newbie, I can definitely tell you that you will lose a lot of battles in your first ten levels or so and even beyond. My mage is L15 and I am still getting demolished by relatively basic opponents regularly. But there is definitely progression, since I found a good set of skills and apparel that work together. Now I win more than I lose, and am starting to get through quests and feel like I'm accomplishing stuff.

If you don't feel like things are meshing together, they may not be. I also started out with a Khajit and was working on Stealth and Destruction magic and archery. I got to Level 8 with her, but it wasn't feeling like a good setup and I wasn't identifying with my character. So I started over with a Redguard woman and used One-Handed a lot until I could increase Magicka and pick up a few helpful perks. Now I rely mostly on Summoning and Healing, my Sneak is high and I do much better and feel more in tune with my character.

You'll definitely need some combat with plain old weapons in the beginning, so if you're focusing on magic it will be rough going for a while still. That may not be what you're doing, but just in case.

I feel like the game won't necessarily appeal to everyone, but it allows a really wide range of playstyles and character types. If you get bored with the combat, maybe try a stealthy type or a summoner or specialise in smithing or something else.

@zufa86 sounds to me like you are skipping a lot of the early quests that would libel you up and give you better gear.

It's an immersive, explorative, lore-learning experience, not really an action game. Try to smell the roses — they're what it's all about.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Try and play Skyrim with mods that makes battles different on PC. Most Bethesda games I just don't find the enjoyment in vanilla so I used mods and it's thousands of times better. Maybe the dialogues with the NPCs is putting you off since it's very lore heavy that you just can't be bothered with it. Have you ever played Fallout on PC? The dialogue in those games is much more approachable than Skyrim and the gunplay might be up your alley

Thanks for all your replies! I havent purchased skyrim before for PC, so the switch edition is my first contact. I followed through the early quests which leads you to the roaring skill at the monastery, but even to go there was tough and i had to skip for example the fight against this yeti like creature. I know that not all games are supposed to be for all gamers, but as mentioned i like all this kind of genre for exploring, trading, leveling, fighting so it should be a perfect fit. I will take some advice from here and maybe start out again.

You don't really need to fight the troll, it may not even be there to begin with. I know I didn't even see one until much later. Haven't seen another one since.

Anyway, I've been enjoying my first time playing this game. I tend to get lost and find things to do at random. Even when I first played I ended up doing the introductory quests in the wrong order.

I mostly use the bow, makes fights a lot more manageable when you can kill enemies from a distance. But I also carry other weapons and magic just in case the enemies overwhelm me.

fighting gameplay is not one of the key features in Elder Scrolls games. Many people just think it is plain bad and probably for me and for other people who have played this game a lot it is ok just because we are used to it and also it is improved if you compare it to older games in the series but really this is actually not very good honestly, just barely ok at best. If the game is too slow for you and you are looking for exciting fighting gameplay and cannot find anything else interesting in this game it probably is just not for you. The best thing would probably just to move on to something else.

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee

I felt the same way with Xenoblade 2. I should like it but I just don't. One tip I'll give you with Skyrim is to focus your skill points on a select set of skills and not try to be a jack of all trades. Being an archer is the most fun way to play this game, so put all your points into archery and light armour and go from there. Also, search how to make Dragonbone armour (it's one of the expansions) and rush through that quest line. Put points into blacksmith and make yourself a full set of dragonbone armour - it will make you near invincible as an archer, as you should rarely get hit by anything.

@Zufa86 - I didn't do the Monastery/shout quest until I was quite a few levels higher than you, (mid teens I think) and it was fairly easy.

Try ignoring that main questline for now. I concentrated on the Companions quests first, complete that and you get to have a follower, which can be helpful in battle and you'll naturally level up during it.

I mixed that questline with the College of Winterhold one cos I wanted to up my Magika, but ran into a wall where I couldn't beat a baddie. It was frustrating, but walk away, talk to other characters, get side quests and the levels, skill and enjoyment will increase.

There is a load out that makes things easier, archery, one handed and block. I know this from playing the game 3 times. After a bit of time you really can clear most rooms with the bow, and then run in for a bit of fun, stun the enemy with a shield bash and hack them to bits with a perked one handed sword or mace.

Take on early quests, experiment with weapons.

Aronsuil

Do side quests and the quests from the guilds instead of the main one. The main questline is a major hindrance at early levels.

I played as a Kahjiid and only advanced in Destruction (lvk81), restoration and lockpicking. At the beginning I used the bow a lot but after gaining more powerful spells I mostly used flames and fireballs. Played the main quests of all DLCs and the main story as well as the winterhold questline. Never put an armor one except the Highgate robes to gain a bonus on Magick. While leveling up I mostly increased magic and just once or twice health but with healing I found it obsolete. I died a couple of times, especially at the beginning. At the end after 60 hours I was done and at level 28. It took me approx 10-15 hours to like the game

Well not every game is for everyone. For example I just can't get into Dark Souls. No matter how many times I try to play any of those games, they just do nothing for me.

For some reason, I am not enjoying it as much as I thought I would as well. Character progression is too slow, and the story and quest don't get engage me at all. I managed to get around 50 hours out of it though, finished the dragon main quest today. I noticed that when I got stronger, I started to enjoy the game more, however, I also started to ignore certain game mechanics more when I progressed through my (mis)adventures trough Skyrim. Constantly being weighed down by loot, having hand-holding quests and running in some game-breaking bugs really annoyed me while playing the game.
