I owned a Wii U and its the reason im not getting a switch. I like the concept but i dont think nintendo gets gamers these days... But maybe u guys can change my mind. I did buy wii u for zelda years ago and i did finally get to buy it and its amazing.
But what turned me off of nintendo was
1. i was really excited to play mario kart 8 with sister from another state. Shortly after we realized there wasnt a party chat feature. We had to use skype and i think thats basically how the switch is as well, lemme no. I get y they do it but thats what parental controls are for.
2. They do things like turn down smash bros. Melee was fantastic but they decided to ruin it by slowing it down so people cant compete. But they should be happy they have fans and a following of there game and its great PR. I cant really get into the new one and its the reason i bought the wii u. Luckily i have zelda and that game is worth it.
3. The friend adding feature and friend code. Thats just ridiculous. I hope the online aspect has improved. And have they added game cloud in the newest console. Everything tied to the console instead of the user. Those were my biggest consurns about getting a switch.
Im not trying to bash nintendo but i do feel like they are still living in the past and using cool gimmicks to sell. Im 34 years old and have been around since beginning and own every system but i have lost much interest in the company over last few consoles. Im hoping u guys can tell me its totally different with the switch...

I got a Wii U on Christmas 2013, and it's honestly my 2nd favorite Nintendo console. (next to the SNES)
I've played most of the exclusives, all being fantastic. especially Pikmin 3, easily my favorite game on the system.

@Xdarkxheartx Im waiting and seeing. There is no reason to rush into owning the switch until you see what is being unveiled at e3. If nothing good comes out of e3 then maybe wait for mario and see if they lower the price? or wait till you get bored of playing your wii u.

I only own a couple games on wii u. I only wanted it for smash bros, mario kart and zelda. I figured smash and zelda would be awesome online but was a huge dissapointment. I m a pc gamer now and loving it but nintendo has some good franchises or at least used to. Im a parent and its a parents job to set up restrictions for online play. Not nintendos. My kids play pc games now and i mute everyone in lobbies except there friend they play with. And i only let them play certain games. I havent touched my wii u since shortly after mario kart came out untill zelda and then i will prolly sell it and buy more pc games unless nintendos new console can compete with their online services... And produce some decent games. Remember mario party. Was fun back in the day competing with ur friends now its completely coop basically. And lost its fun. Smash was ruined, mario kart lacked the fun games now a days online have. Ill take ur advice twindragon and hold off a bit and see what the switch has in store before i lose hope in nintendo... I do like the idea of the switch but i want something that can hold up for adults and todays times and not just the gimmick.

I bought a Wii U considerably well late in its life cycle. I bought it in May 2015. Since then (until yesterday) I constantly bought games for a while. Now I have around 7-8 Wii U games as there wasn't much to buy. Yesterday I got my Switch (I know it's late, but still) but Zelda is out of stock

I am totally with u. Nintendo makes controversial decisions and doesnt really listen to their fans. I could give tons of examples...
After the reveal I thought I would either call it quits with nintendo or wait a very long time until I get the switch.
Two weeks ago I got an offer for buying stuff at zero interest installments. After a week I cracked and ordered the switch with zelda. As you probably know that game is amazing! It does so many things right, its so enjoyable to play for me.
I think its those kinda games that make me buy nintendo products and games like assassins, cod or what have u.
I think their will be great first party games on the switch and probably some other good titles as well, like monster hunter, some level 5. Atlus will makes some games.
For me its the only console out there. I rather buy only 5 great nintendo games per year than 10 made by ea ubi or other mainstream developers.
I think the 3ds will get less and less attention so they will naturally produce more games for the switch.
Dont worry too much about third party...

Well, the funny thing about voice chat on MK8 is that the only place it will (maybe) ever happen will be on the Switch.

I see the Switch as the system Nintendo wanted the Wii U to be. And they're actually advertising it. I've seen more advertisements for the Switch on my TV, computer, and even at the movie theater this weekend than I had for the Wii U in the entire time it was out.

It's popular on the internet to say Nintendo doesn't "get" gamers anymore. It's a safe thing to say that will get most people to agree with you and validate your opinion. But I don't 100% agree with that statement. In my opinion, Nintendo has the BEST games, hands-down. That doesn't mean I don't play some Uncharted or Last Guardian on the side, but when I want to have some FUN with a game, I usually go to Nintendo. I don't understand how that's a bad or even neutral thing.

And in my opinion, some of the stuff people complain about like the friend codes and online - so the heck what? So you have to punch in a code to friend somebody. The world will keep spinning, I assure you. And what was wrong with their online on Wii U/3DS? It was free, they have their eShop, and games ran pretty smoothly for me. It worked essentially the same as the online component on my Xbox and PS. So that's another gripe I don't get.

As for cloud saves, they're coming. They're definitely coming. But I bet it will be a component of their paid online service when it launches in the fall (something else people will complain about even though they've spent years saying they want better online from Nintendo).

@rallydefault im not opposed to getting a switch at all. Im just saying nintendo has always been one step behind everyone else... Last to get HD, last to get online, only one trying to take the competitive aspect out. Friends code obviously isnt a deal breaker but its still pretty dumb. I do not no anyone who actually enjoys the menus and home page. I have a 14 yr old son who i thought would love one. I asked him and he said no. Hed rather the new xbox when it launches or a ps4. Nintendo is more about the kids and i can understand but even kids nowadays want more out of there gaming and i am hoping this new console will do just that. Is it true they do not have a mic aux port? Im hoping they at least have blue tooth mics for it if not it will also be a kids system.
I have played online on the wii u and it ran fine. The issue was i couldnt talk to my friends while playing. I never supported free online services. Paid networks will have more resources to maintain them and secure them over free ones... Either way im not bashing the switch. I am interested. My major issue was the wii u. I do not own a switch but was hoping u guys could tell me some of these things are better now... I understand ur a fanboy and upset but i do really like nintendos franchised characters. Mario, link, kirby but i get more replay value on the online games with friends. But i still play the others.

You're 34, man. And a parent. And you're going around calling me a "fanboy" and "upset"?

I'm nearly your age, and I'd be embarrassed to fling those kinds of personal insults around willy-nilly. I'd be even more embarrassed if my kids ever found out that I acted like that.

You just registered here, so it's understandable that you know zero about me, but I'm the furthest thing from a "fanboy." I own every system. I support every company with my hard-earned money. I never even owned a Wii or a Gamecube, opting for the more "real" PS2 and 360. But Nintendo makes the best games, in my opinion. Nintendo gets the bum end of the stick when it comes to perception, in my opinion. That doesn't make me a "fanboy" or "upset."

You cited your age in an apparent attempt to give weight to your argument, but you seem like you have the reasoning and conversational skills of a young child. Disappointed - thought we could've had an intelligent conversation. You can reply @ me if you want, but I won't read it. I don't talk to people who resort immediately to personal attacks, and neither do most of the posters on this forum.

The Wii U has got me into a messy situation.

Before Wii U, I was only an occasional gamer. I had a Gamecube and Wii but never really got into them beyond soccer games.

Then Wii U came along. I don't think I even heard about it around launch time, but in autumn 2013 I bought one and quickly sought out a used copy of FIFA 13. 150hrs of mostly off-screen play later I decided I was addicted and needed to drop it. Then Mario Kart 8 turned up, I fell in love, and I've bought at least 250 games (across 7 platforms) and 5 pieces of hardware (N3DS, PS3, XBone, Steamlink, Switch) in the 3 years since.

While I want to play my PS3 and XBone games, the hardware that gets my time is Wii U, N3DS and now Switch, all because I'm not tied to a TV.

The Switch is the natural progression from the Wii U. I just don't get why the Switch can't stream to the dock in the same way that the Wii U streamed to the gamepad. The Switch should support dual-screen gaming, and it should have stylus compatibility. P'raps it will one day...

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

I never bought one, but I would play Splatoon and Mario Maker on my brother's Wii U which came with MK8.

So I guess I'll buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when it comes out since I never actually bought it in the first place

@rallydefault excuse me if I interrupt you two - it's none of my business - but I found these lines amusing considering not one week ago you called me "a mad dude who doesn't get his facts straight" and stated that the post I just written in reply to you was too long for your time. And, as above, I really didn't know who you are and you didn't know who I am.

you really are a funny little creature.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Nope. Before the Switch I had 11 models of Nintendo system (multiples of most of them): SNES, GC, Wii, GBA SP, GBA micro, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 2DS, N3DS, N3DS XL.

When the Wii U was announced I was disappointed and thought it a big misstep; very Nintendo, in all the worst ways. The Switch is very Nintendo in all the right ways.

Also owned a Wii u. Bought it at the time when the Mario Kart Bundle was released. I have the Switch since day 1. Nintendo managed to entertain me enough with a failure. I just cant live without the Nintendo sugar.

Personaly i dont really see a big difference to the wii u for now except the portability and the premium look and feel of the Switch. Maybe people just didnt want to feel like children when they buy a Nintendo console. Im just happy that it seems to be succesful so i can get some juicy exclusives plus the Nintendos.

I still have my Wii U. bought it in March 2013, it's bagged up now but I feel like I may play it once in a while but I got the switch day one. I love nintendo, although I realize their failures and they do some things is dont like very much but i can't hate them. They're the only gaming company that makes the games I really love and a console that I dont get bored with. Playstation and Xbox don't give me that new console feeling that nintendo does.

I always intended to get a Wii U after it got a price drop & established. I love my Wii and got a 3DS at launch. The Wii U never sold me to be an early adopter. By the time it started establishing a library, Nintendo was hyping the NX and pulling the plug.

I was intending to get a Switch after a couple of months, but couldn't resist when I found the last one in my town last weekend. My wallet hates me. I'm very excited for Mario Kart 8 as that's the game I was saddest to miss on the Wii U.

Maybe they'll port some more of its library across to the Switch like they have with Mario Kart and a couple of games on the 3DS. It'll be sad if such quality first party content doesn't get a second chance. A quick way to establish a game library on the Switch too.
