29yo Manatee who sees Nintendo's box as perhaps the most novel form while still being serious in bringing more titles and publishers on board. This is Nintendo as we have never seen them before knock on wood.
Over 20 here, and no way I'm too old for Nintendo. I think it depends on tastes too - if you like games with dark graphics, that kind of stuff, probably Nintendo isn't for you.
Me? I see enough shooting and stuff when I see the news.
The reality is that, like any piece of mass consumer electronics today, the Switch is being aimed at a very broad and diverse range of people. It has to be.
I think the marketing that you're seeing probably reflects a few things:
1 - The sites and advertising channels that you are using. Advertising is targeted.
12 months from now anyone watching the Disney channel 24 hours a day might see lots of Switch adverts that make you think it's a console aimed at 8 year olds whilst anyone browsing through IGN might see lots of Switch adverts that make you think it's a console aimed at 20 year olds. At least it will if Nintendo's marketing department is competent and doing their job.
2 - 20-30 somethings are normally in the first wave of adopters for pieces of tech - particularly gaming tech like the Switch. They also spend more. It makes sense to target them first.
3 - Switch has a particular appeal for 20-30 somethings because they're less likely to have time to spend countless hours infront of the TV and they're more likely to have young families. So a console that can be played for half an hour in bed or on the train is great and a console that hosts family friendly local multiplayer games like Mario Kart 8 is fantastic.
In my gaming group, we have people of all ages. Under 10s, teenagers, young adults, 20-30s, people in their 40s, families and every so often the 60+. We don't judge
What this says to me being able to see gamers of all sorts come together to play games is that all people like to play games. I think to be honest this console is meant for gamers. There is no demographic. It is meant for people who enjoy video games and nothing else.
And in that perspective the marketing has nailed it not because of its portability, but because people are having fun playing games together.
I am 27, am a Level Designer in the Industry. I won't be getting a Switch for a long time. Still not sold. We will see if Nintendo can sell me, but right now I think people are caught up with the idea of Nintendo making a console that doesn't have Wii in the name.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I don't think it's about aiming at an age range as such, it's more the concept of playing together. This could be parents and children, this could be kids at a party, a group of adults in a drinking game, or connecting with strangers at a convention or something.
If you ignore Zelda, Xenoblade, and Skyrim (and possibly Mario), all the other key games are multiplayer- Bomberman, SF2, Snipperclips, Splatoon, MK8, FIFA, Just Dance, NBA2K, 1 2 Switch... it's all about playing together.
Why? Because it's a neglected form of gaming by XBox and Sony.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
I'm 44.....been gaming since ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Dragon 32 days.....Then NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS 2, Xbox 360, DS, PS3, Wii, PS4, Wii U, New 3DS, Xbox One S.....now have a PS4 Pro and really, really, really looking forward to my Switch!!!
I'm thinkin' Switch is for gamers of all ages but for now it's specifically marketed toward adults. Once 3DS goes out to the pasture and Switch's price is reduced to $199 w/o the Switch dock, it'll get an added marketing push toward families and children.

I'd argue that young adults and people with young families are the biggest demographic for the Switch. The 2DS is for kids, mobile is for older gamers, PS4/XBone are for teens. I'd argue the Switch demographic is closer to the PC gamer demographic than anything else.
Obviously there are nuances and exceptions. Still, I think the OP is barking up the wrong tree.
I know what you mean! I often see lots of posts by people on may forums complaining about specs or demographics, etc, but usually what they really mean is that it's just not for them. So I always laugh when I hear them try to make out it's not for everybody. Clearly many of us out there of all ages that still feel it's for us! So I'd even put the demographic question simpler easy way to solve that nobody can argue with (though watch them still try... lol)
Nintendo demographic = People who like Nintendo stuff! (there's tonnes of us out there enjoying it
every day. Some of us like other consoles too, and others actually prefer Nintendo games and aren't keen on other consoles. Neither is wrong, it's just personal taste).
Non Nintendo demographic = People who don't like Nintendo and think the console they play is the only one everyone else should like too. (I don't share in this logic personally, but wherever you find forums, you'll always find plenty of people with that attitude and want you all to follow their religion!) lol.
All part of the fun though! (it would be boring if everyone always agreed on everything).
