On the adverts that I have seen on TV, the people playing it are all the same age around 20s or low 30s, but I don't believe that that is the age that will actually be interested in the Switch.
It could appeal to people of any age, but it seems a lot more targeted toward an older audience than past Nintendo systems were. The Wii U in particular practically screamed "Kids toy", at least at first glance.
@lighteningbolt79 I would like to hear what is your opinion of Switch's "target age"
I'm 28 and really exciting about Switch and already pre-ordered it. Is that odd, you think?
So far it seems like youngish adults, maybe those who grew up during the glory days of Nintendo; 20s-40s. I'd bet they'll come out with a cheaper Switch lite or something in 1-2 years that will be cheaper/more durable for kids, if the switch does well enough as they phase out the 3DS. The switch is a pretty good price point for a home console, but it's way too expensive for most families if everyone wants their portable - they'd be crazy to not try to capture the 2DS market (younger kids, mainly or anyone who wants a budget system), especially once the next pokemon generation is released. That would coincide pretty well with when the last big-name 3ds games currently in development come out too.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
I'd argue that young adults and people with young families are the biggest demographic for the Switch. The 2DS is for kids, mobile is for older gamers, PS4/XBone are for teens. I'd argue the Switch demographic is closer to the PC gamer demographic than anything else.
Obviously there are nuances and exceptions. Still, I think the OP is barking up the wrong tree.
