I have played in cars, trains, planes and my brother-in-law's London flat. My kids have also taken the Switch on sleepovers and when they spend a day with me or my wife at work.

It's definitely not as portable as a 3DS, even an XL. It's not just the size difference, but the fact that it's a lot more expensive, more fragile and at this point all but impossible to replace if it goes astray. I don't play it on the bus, because I don't like getting mugged. (Then again, I rarely take out my 3DS on the bus, either.) And I don't just chuck it in my bag for casual daytrips and mall runs, like I've done with the 3DS. But it does get around a fair bit.

Work and the very rare airplane ride. I've managed to rack about 185 hours on Zelda so that seems to be working out for me.

At all your mom's houses. Lol

Nah. But honestly I rarely take it outside the house.

Mine comes to work with me, and I try to squeeze out some Mario Kart or another short game if I have time during lunch. Otherwise I mostly play at home, I bought a 24 inch gaming monitor so that I can leave whatever shows on the TV and can enjoy a larger display than the built-in 6 inch LCD when I'm on the couch. Otherwise I'll play in handheld mode when laying in bed.

As other said in the train (with headphones on). I also take it with me to my parents and my girlfriends parents. These two places are obvious places where I do not need a dock (as taking over the TV in someone elses house, even though you lived there quite a while is weird and often not-wanted). I could also see myself taking it to a forest or other nature, however I am not sure how much visibility there would be.

I play mine to and from work every day and play it on the train (if I'm not sleeping). I have headphones in anyway, listening to music so I just put it on mute to keep from getting odd looks. I don't necessarily need sound to enjoy Disgaea 5 since I know whats going on and what music is playing regardless.

Just as a side note, I did see another guy with a Neon Switch playing Mario Kart on the same train I was on (I don't have Mario Kart so yeah) but it was pretty cool to see.

Never take anything I say seriously. S'all you buddy. ;)
Mainly play on my Switch but I have 3DS, Wii U and PS4 as well.
Fave game series include: Pokemon, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dragons Dogma, Phantasy Star & Arena of Valor.

Mine is just an expensive console but id like to use her in the garden. Im still *issed because its pretty much unplayable outside when its not nighttime. Do displays that can be used in sunny environments even exist?

I play mine in portable mode less than I used to, but I still do it from time to time. I used to play it in the Computer Science lounge when waiting in between classes at my University, but I graduated recently so that has cut back on a lot of the portable use. Sometimes I'll take it to work which is nice because during my lunch break I can easily do 2 player Mario Kart with a friend thanks to the convenience of the joycons. I also take a 4 hour bus ride every couple weeks and play it during that, but I find it's generally less comfortable/enjoyable when playing in a moving vehicle. Other than that there's not many times I'll play it in portable mode unless I'm taking it to the bathroom...

Even though at the start i'm pretty sure i said "I have a New 3DS XL to play as it is a hand held, and my switch will stay at home, as a console, as it should be"
Within two day's (8th March) of having my Switch i took it to work and played on it at lunch at my desk and since then i have been doing that every day.
Poor ole 3DS XL is sitting at home now a days, but my original 3DS is always still in my pocket for street passes

I rarely take my Switch out my home. The only times I did take it out was when I went to other people's place for multiplayer (one system play), 4 times I can remember.

Still play with my smartphone and New 3ds XL on my commutes and outdoors, so there is that competition for attention. Plus its more portable and less eye catching than the larger, newer console when I play in public areas like a nyc subway train.

Kids play soccer so I will be getting some use this year. Depending on which practice I go to. Other than that I don't get a chance to use it our of the house.

It's always in my bag when I go out, I quite enjoy sitting in my lock coffee shop and just chilling out playing something. It's alot handy as I have frequent trips to the hospital and they never run on time 😂

Taken the Switch on a couple of holidays, but I've also started taking it to work to play on the train home. Don't like playing on the morning commute as much, as it's hard to dodge Lynels or make a pixel-perfect jump when you're nursing a coffee in one hand...

I probably play 80% docked and 20% handheld. But having the handheld ability means the system can be by your side 24/7, day and night, any and everywhere you go.

And I literally take my Switch everywhere. Where I go.... Switch goes.

For starters, just take the house for example. Not even leaving. Go to the bathroom, Switch comes with. Going downstairs... Switch comes with. Going to the kitchen... Switch comes with. The versatility and flexibility of the system pays dividends before you ever even step foot outside of your own house.

But pertaining to outside of the house, I take it to work every day... Every. Day. On breaks I'll do a hunt in the Monster Hunter XX demo, or Arms, or Splatoon 2, or Ultra Street Fighter, or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Slime-San... before that it was Zelda. I'll set up tabletop for the last half hr of the day and play at my desk while my coworkers watch or play with me. It's caused a frenzy where everyone I talk to is buying one.

That's the appeal. Don't think too hard about how you can find a use for it. That will just come naturally. Don't go out of your way trying to think up scenarios in which it could be used. Those scenarios will come about of their own accord in your every day life. All you have to do, is keep your Switch with you everywhere you go... and within a week you'll know. You'll know.

That first time you bust it out and set up tabletop mode and pass a joycon to race somebody in Mario Kart... that's when you'll have your aha moment

So far at home it's been used on two TV's, sat on the settee, on the toilet and in bed.

It gets used a lot at work on night shifts when it's quiet. I take my Hori Stand and Pro Controller.

Out and about I've used it in a coffee shop and hospital waiting room. No big commutes recently but I wouldn't hesitate.

I don't think I'll ever take mine to a public place like a waiting room or a pub etc.

I have only played at home so far, and generally play it docked when I can, undocked when I really don't care about whatever it is my wife and I are watching on TV.

I used it in tabletop mode for the first time ever this week in my bedroom, as I was feeling rough and my wife is a childminder and I just couldn't be doing with the noise lol, and I can't believe I've never played like that before. It is IDEAL for Splatoon 2.

I want to get a good carry case so that I can start to take it to work with me as I'm self employed and could play whenever, but I'm a bit dubious for two reasons; firstly I don't know if I'd ever use it at work, as I already have a PSP, PS Vita and a 2DS that I could play on but never do, and secondly, it's a bloody expensive kit to be taking out and about every day and I'd be mortified if anything happened to it lol.

@GuruOfGreatness
I use the Butterfox case- unlike most other cases the mesh pocket zips up so you can cram it full. I have a 26,800mAh USB-C Power Delivery portable battery, a 6ft USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C Power Delivery wall charger (I either pair the USB-C cable with wall charger or with portable battery, and can charge Switch from the wall faster than official charger, Switch from the battery faster than official charger, or charge the battery from the wall super fast because it's all USB-C PD). Also have a small, foldable tripod which has 2 viewing angles and can hold Switch vertically for TATE mode, and Bose earbuds, amiibo coin and 19 games.

The key to holding all that is the Butterfox case. It's a super tight fit for all of that but I love having all of that in a tiny, slim case with a handle.

The only other reasonable alternative to the Anker USB-C PD battery and wall charger combo is this (RAVpower one has issues with Switch requiring sleep mode to get the PD charge rates to work)

That's everything one needs to have the ultimate portable "on-the-go" setup. For more thorough collection of accessories, I recommend the Switch backpack or Waterfield Switch MP Pro bag

I mostly use it around the house, although it's also nice for times I'm stuck at work with very little to do or car rides.

It's not really about trying to think of different ways to use it. I don't need to justify a gimmick. It lets me play console-quality games comfortably wherever I go, and that's all I want or need in a gaming device.

The versatility is incredibly useful as its own sort of thing, of course, but as I've said before, it also eases a lot of the psychological friction I experience with home consoles. The sense that I have to dedicate time to them if I want to play games on them. When I play a home console, I feel like I'm the prisoner of the TV, and it's aggravating. The Switch has actually given me a new appreciation for home console gaming: I LIKE playing on the TV with the Switch, because it just feels like I'm taking advantage of a cool option as opposed to being forced to sit there when I don't want to (if I want to continue playing the game, that is). Kind of like when I would play Pokemon using the N64 transfer pak.

@JaxonH I use the Hestia Goods case, which looks remarkably similar to your Butterfox case. I love it: it's perfect, and a MASSIVE step up from the PDP case I got at launch.

I love that I can keep my portable battery, earbuds, and USB-C connector in it.
