I drew this up today after thinking about it before bed on Friday. Funny enough, I woke up to discovery of a scroll in Splatoon that's basically this idea in an early stage.
Couldn't think of a better place to post this than the NX forum...even though I'm in the "NX will be a handheld" camp.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Meh, kind of just sounds like Nintendo's version of the DS3. I'm not a fan of the right stick being above the buttons.
Also, I think that the type of games you can play with gyro+accelerometer in a large flat controller like you describe are VERY different from what you can play with a Wii Remote. It's odd, but the shape plays a big role. A wand-like Wii remote can become a sword in your hand, or can become your fist in a boxing match. A regular controller must always be held with two hands, and thus you lose a lot of that type of independent hand usage.
I'd like a controller that can break apart and reassemble.

Well, I wasn't necessarily thinking of the controller being used like the Wii Remote. I understand it's a bland kind of design, but I'm also thinking about a fair amount of those in the gaming world and even on this site. While there are a lot of us that liked the Wii Remote and enjoy the Wii U GamePad, there's quite a vocal bunch that don't and even more that look past the potential of those control styles and see only gimmicky waggling and a useless second screen (again, points I don't agree with). Hence why I just plonked motion controls and a pointer in the Pro Controller.
I'm sure Nintendo's ACTUAL controller will be something interesting, but this is what I'd come up with.

I would rather see a new Wii Remote, maybe with an analog stick and 4 face buttons then just using 2 Wii Remote for some games rather than a Wii Remote and a Nunchuck. That is my idea
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I like the idea here. IR yes, matte finish yes, clicking sticks yes, headphone jack yes. Needs analog triggers, gyro sensors, and a more ergonomic form factor though. Probably an NFC interface too, maybe on the back on top of the battery. The face layout is also... kinda ugly.
@Jaz007, it's basically the Wii U Pro Controller's layout... Actually, after drawing it, I realized it looks a lot like this
@6ch6ris6 and @CaviarMeths, I said the ZL and ZR buttons should be analog triggers in the notes below.
Also, @CaviarMeths, I'm sure if I were to send this to Nintendo and if they were to accept it and use it for their next home console, this would merely be a starting off point and they would make it more ergonomic. HOW'D I FORGET ABOUT NFC?!
EDIT: Now that I'm looking at the SNES modeled controller again, I realized that I also forgot about the power button...
EDIT 2: Dang it. After realizing the similarities with the look of the controller, more research on this controller has shown me that it's the idea I've drawn up basically... I'll go off and cry in a corner now...
That would be great. Just add in a headset port and analog triggers and I'd be happy. But knowing them, their next controller is going to be some needlessly simple or un-intuitive thing that prevents most games from being played traditionally, just like the wii remote.

I included both of those features in the notes.
