Topic: What would you like to see in Nintendo's new online membership service/club Nintendo/Network ID?

@Bowser908: Your use of words like "manchildren" and broad-sweeping strokes of "anybody who wants Nintendo Network to become Xbox Live is a party pooper" make me immediately question the validity of any statement you may be trying to make / question if you are really just a troll.

Calm down. Wipe the internet speak away from your brain, and come back with points that aren't entirely personal/inflammatory. You're not helping your cause.

@rallydefault: You don't have anything to say about my actual post or points, only my tone and choice of words. I'm being perfectly measured in words and tone, you just don't want to discuss anything, and would rather put your fingers in your ears and say "every opinion is equally valid". You're pretending I'm being personal or inflammatory, when I'm just talking easily. It's not personal, it never is. The most annoying thing you can do online is point fingers and cry troll because someone disagrees with you or had your feelings hurt. "Manchild" is not being used literally, but it's supposed to have you imagine basement-dwelling losers obsessing over achievements. Obviously many people who like achievements are probably not like that. It's an intentional exaggeration; I didn't think someone would actually take it literally. The Xbox Live thing was a joke, too. Not everything is serious.

@Bowser908: ??

If you don't want to be perceived as inflammatory, you need to dial back your word choice. Words have meaning.

That's about all I got from your post...

Oh, if you want reasons, I'll give you a couple: Achievements don't clutter the Xbox OS. Trophies don't clutter the PS4 OS. There is no reason to believe Nintendo "achievements" would clutter their OS. Achievements are only as "visible" as you make them in your own mind. I wouldn't be surprised if there are plenty of people out there who play on Xbox or PS and really have no idea what trophies and achievements even are or how to view them or what they do or why they should care about them. I know that once I disconnected my Kinect from my Xbox One, I had a hard time even finding the Achievements menu (I can no longer just say, "achievements").

So, in summary:
-The words you type communicate certain feelings. Shocker. It's nice to say, "Oh, I was just kidding! Don't take everything I type so personally!" That's great. But we're not speaking face to face, so it is nearly impossible to pick up on those nuances. I don't know you, so I don't know when you are not being serious. Make sense?
-Achievements are not overt on existing systems, and we have no reason to believe they suddenly would be.

@rallydefault: Whenever I have played games on a friend's PS4, doing simple things tends to show a box on the top-left, telling you what trophy you have gotten, and it does create clutter. It's still one more menu item and one more system. You said it yourself: if most people don't care about them or know about them, well, why do they have to even exist? Most people wouldn't miss it if it were gone. It wouldn't be a very Nintendo way of doing things to add a feature only a small amount of Mountain Dew-swigging "gamers" actually care about.

Also, you should read posts without the personal, emotional lens unless the topic is personal. You claim you can't pick up nuances on the Internet, but you can tell my intent, or whether or not I'm a "troll". You're being very passive-agressive, almost like a middle-school girl, replying with just a ?? like my writing is unintelligible. I never did or said anything bad, you're just ascribing negative intent to my posts just because you seem to want to sound all "adult" and "reasonable", almost like a kid trying to pretend to be older than he really is. I don't know anybody on this forum, so anything I say against them is just against their posts, so it is never personal.

Also, I wasn't even talking to you in the first place. Not sure why you're so bothered.

Pretty much agree with everything in the OP but will add my random musings regardless.

1) Achievements - are still very popular and it would be nice for Nintendo to implement something similar to cater for those who enjoy them. I'd change the process up though, maybe when a game is completed 100% (as many games seem to have their own build in challenges) users get a star or a particular badge to show off. Maybe a completed game could award them with stamps to use in messages outside of the game's specific discussion channel, maybe new clothing options for their Mii, or at best (and this is me dreaming) a small amount of points/stars added to their accounts for use against Virtual Console, eShop or Club Nintendo purchases.

2) Paying For Online - personally I'd be happy with doing it if the price was the same as other consoles (have to be fair) and the Virtual Console and eShop are given weekly updates/additions along with more demos and genuine sales for all titles. Nintendo are woefully lacking with two of its major additions, the Virtual Console in particular is a huge draw to fans but poorly implemented. Which reminds me...

3) Virtual Console - needs some serious attention. Why is it so sparse? Why are some NES games available on the Wii U but not on the 3DS? Nintendo need to sort out the licensing issues and start putting up some regular content at decent prices. I can understand Wii games still costing a bit but the rest? Introduce some sensible pricing and watch the money machine start to churn out gold.

4) User Interface - Nintendo has always struggled with this. When I play a Nintendo machine it feels like I'm being heavily restricted to where I can access and in what sequence to perform events and they all seem to go against natural intuition. For example when I bought the Wii and 3DS I had to complete some forms/passwords before I go online. Simple enough but after I'm done, I'm hit with a "system needs an update" message before I can continue. Instead of linking me to the update, I then had to back out of the forms, find the system update myself, complete it, refill out the forms and then finally go online. Why doesn't it link me to the update before the form filling?

On a sub note, confirmations for everything: Do you want to download this demo? Look at these ratings first. Now click download again. Now wait. Now select if you want to download now or in sleep mode. Too much clicking to progress! This is a huge problem for Nintendo/many Japanese games too. Everything needs confirmation or double checking before you can proceed, hardly anything is streamlined to get the player into the game faster, which I imagine is what they want.

5) Design For The World - not just Japan. I can see how a system like StreetPass would work in densely populated cities, and where kids gather in parks on the weekend with their 3DS to happily trade data. That's a nice way of looking at your consumer base but where I live, kids only gather in parks to get drunk and throw stones at the duck pond. Sure I can arrange an event for other owners but I'm approaching 40. Do you think I'm going to invite young children (part of the DS consumer base) to come meet me to play games? I'd be facing a lynch mob!

Likewise with games, in an age where people have enjoyed titles like Skyrim and even Minecraft, don't promise us we can travel vast distances in Zelda Wii U when its not going to match our expectations. Just because a certain design aspect or mechanic is new to Japan, don't think that the rest of the world is going to lap it up with the same enthusiasm. I love the fantastic colours and fun of Nintendo games but they need to be pushing the boat out when it comes to new ideas for the NX. Remake the classics with totally new elements (not another Mario where Peach is kidnapped) but give us some genuinely interesting new IP's too. Splatoon was a great start but it seemed to end there as well. Come on Nintendo, drop the fear of innovation and see what the world wants.

6) Deliver A Complete Package - I like Nintendo games because they're fun, but they're not really substantial. Sure 80 levels in Mario Wii U is nice but I'd really love to see some character models/artwork/profiles. Give me something to purchase with those coins like a tracks for a music test or episodes of the Mario cartoon show. Give me something that makes me think "yeah this is the complete Mario package!" without me wanting more. Same with the games you can unlock with the Amiibo figures. A random 3 minute demo? I just paid near £13.99 for the figure, just give me the entire game outright please! It's weird because Nintendo is incredibly money focussed in some areas (the Amiibo) but seems to hate money in others (the Virtual Console). Don't even get me started on the nonsense of being limited to one use every 24 hours in some Amiibo compatible games. Does Nintendo even know how people play games anymore?

I think I read a quote on another forum that sums it up best: "most other publishers ask players what they want, then try to deliver that to them. Nintendo decides what it wants to deliver, then expects the whole world to want it" its only so long that strategy can last.
