As we head towards the end of January, from the upcoming games I am aware of, my most anticipated game is probably FIRE EMBLEM on Switch. I'm a recent convert to the series having put 100hrs into FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING last year and am currently playing FIRE EMBLEM FATES: BIRTHRIGHT. I can take or leave the medieval fantasy setting (in fact, I'd be really happy if they changed that for a different setting for the Switch game e.g. futuristic science-fiction or something) but the core mechanics are incredible. Really got me back into turn-based strategy as did the superb MARIO + RABBIDS: KINGDOM BATTLE. Story and character DLC for the latter is also right up there on my games anticipation list.

Outside of that, looking forward to KIRBY and YOSHI to play with my kids. I'd like another couch co-op experience akin to SNIPPER CLIPS to enjoy with the Mrs. My son is keen on MARIO TENNIS ACES but we'll see on reviews for that one.

Pondering whether to pick up the variety LABO pack for my son's birthday but again, might wait to see more of the software included.

Not sure what else is coming that takes my fancy in a strong way to be honest. Undecided on whether to buy DONKEY KONG COUNTRY TROPICAL FREEZE again as I own it - never finished it - digitally for Wii U. Otherwise I'd sell the physical copy and buy it on Switch for the portability.

For some reason I feel a little underwhelmed by what's currently been announced. I'm sure that's largely down to what a great line-up 2017 had. Expecting at least two or three big games to be announced and released before the end of the year (fingers crossed one is PIKMIN 4 and at least one is a totally new IP akin to ARMS and another is a return of Wii Sports Resort under new 'Switch Sports Resort' monitor or similar) that will find their way into my Switch.

3rd party wise. I'm keen to see more from Capcom and they seem to be moving in the right direction with the STREET FIGHTER 2 and MEGA MAN collections. Fingers crossed they also release the Disney games collection, ACE ATTORNEY could tempt me again (got them for DS).

Hopefully, they'll be plenty more 3rd party surprises in store for the Switch over the coming 12 months.

THE FALL 2 on the indie front has got me excited for sure, but even more than the indies, I love all the arcade games coming to Switch each month. I'll no doubt be buying up loads of these arcade games in 2018. So that's about it for now.

For me, it's currently Fe, Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta 3, Pokémon Switch and eventual Smash. I have a wishlist with all the nitty-gritty titles I want but I'm at work on lunch break so I don't feel like elaborating...

Never take anything I say seriously. S'all you buddy. ;)
Mainly play on my Switch but I have 3DS, Wii U and PS4 as well.
Fave game series include: Pokemon, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dragons Dogma, Phantasy Star & Arena of Valor.

@ThatNyteDaez
I'm on one for Kirby, Donkey Kong and Bayonetta. Not so bothered about Labo and Tennis Ace's, not that I'm against them, i'm just waiting for them to prove worthy of my pennies. Oh yes I also can't wait for the Rabbids DLC!

Dragon Quest Builders, since that isn't on PC, and Octpath, since that's an exclusive.

I absolutely loved DQ Builders on PS4 - I still return to it sometimes. Which reminds me I'm pumped for DQ XI! @MFD

@HauntingNostrils I'd buy it on PS4 if I had one, but, got no choice but to buy Nintendo's hardware to get to their IP

@MFD PS4 is good, but as someone who owns the lot PC & Switch rule in my house!

MFD

@HauntingNostrils I do own that combo as well, but as someone who values game experience above something as quaint as portability, the Switch disappoints me.

Each to their own, my friend. I've come to the switch feeling a bit downtrodden with all the dark FPS's and bleak open worlds with gnarled hero's, and what do I get? Joy once more, just like back when I had my Dreamcast and Powerstone and Sonic Adventure. I have realised that there used to be vibrant colours in my gaming worlds. I still dip into everything else but I'm on my Switch mostly.

@MFD Nope, I have a quite up and downy type job, so when I game I just flop on the sofa. I'm just currently finding the games more enjoyable. I can't say how I'll feel when Nintendo start pumping out more peripherals, expecting to dislodge my arse from my settee with cardboard and plastic crap, but for now, it's kinda enraptured with my Switch.

@HauntingNostrils But it's primarily the games, what if these games were available on PS4?

MFD

HauntingNostrils

@MFD If there's a massive graphical difference, or more exclusive content, or less switch tax then I'm all over that PS4/PC/Xbox version - that's why I own them all. Case in point: after all the hoo-harr about DB FighterZ not being on Switch I can actually see why, the graphical prowess of that game are one of its selling points (plus did you see those dreadful pixelated videos people where touting as a reason to have a switch version? Yukky!), but graphics are not the main selling point with all games. At least not for me.

HauntingNostrils

MFD

@HauntingNostrils Aye, I agree with that FighterZ assessment, and graphics are not the selling point for me either, but when I see frame-drops, me enjoyment drops like a bag of bricks.

I just can't overlook frame-drops (Note, drops, not dips)

That's never really bothered me, but then I come from an era when it was called slow-down and it gave you a chance to relax as enemies did their slow-arsed thing! Lol.

Count me in for DQ Builders. I could never get into Minecraft but I always wished I could. I was intrigued since E3, and got hooked on the Demo. Is it the 9th yet?

@MFD I think I fall into @HauntingNostrils camp on this one. I've done it all, from the Atari 2600 through NES through a decade as a PC Master Race snob (Who still buys CONSOLES?! My $3,000 PC stomps them all, lol, I'm so awesome! Ahh...youth.... ) And then when I got sick of costs, drivers, config issues and the consolification of PC after the OG X-Box launched I bought a PS3 and finally spent more time playing games than configuring/troubleshooting them. Then got a Wii (how could one skip the phenomenon that was Wii?) and then an X360 because most multiplats ran like trash on PS3. And then a gaming laptop to make it portable (which overheated and froze none-stop.) And then the holy grail, 3DS. Through WiiU, launch day PS4, 3DS ended up dominating my gaming time. The appeal of an always on, always suspended game that could be started and stopped in an instant appealed. But then I'd spend time splitting games "this is my portable one, this is my at home one." Finally Switch brought it all together. Best console I've ever owned. And most played. PS4 collected dust all year. Finally dug it out. SOme good PSN sales for games I wanted but skipped years ago, so I'll probably spend a few months on PS4. But all things equal, graphics are less important to me than actually PLAYING. So any game that's on both Switch and PS4, Switch always gets the purchase. I can play on the TV, or in small bursts, or on the go.....I don't need to tailor my play to the situation but the play tailors to mine for once. Pretty graphics are pretty, and fun sometimes, but I know the Switch will be playable more frequently, and I'll actually get through those longer games.

@NEStalgia Tell me, should your demand for portability overshadow the need for a good game experience? Should your want for convenience force all developers to scramble to Switch and port their games?

MFD

HauntingNostrils

Not at all, but the smell of money will draw them hither and yon. @MFD
