@Shy_Guy: I partly agree but I also understand Nintendos stance on ditching/moving away from the physical entertainment spectrum. Everything is becoming digital and slowly but surely even games themselves are. If there was a universal digital library you could use/access from your laptop, pc, smartphone, or and home console. That'd greatly eliminate the relevance of using dvds and such.
powerful enough CPU/GPU to handle an OS that can actually multitask without slowing down horribly. Downloading a demo AND attempting to surf the Eshop becomes an exercise in patience. Actual ideas for the NX would be more along the lines of smoother integration with other hardware like a wireless headset or even their handhelds. Smash 3ds interacting with the Wii U was a nice start but nowhere near enough.

Multitasking, effective unified OS
Developer-friendly architecture
Improved online infrastructure with basic online features
Improved eShop and improved reward program
Initial NX handheld should have a CPU/GPU that's as capable as the PS Vita. Initial NX home console should match the PS4 and Xbone
Integrate Miiverse and StreetPasses into the NX online infrastructure and expand upon the ideas of those two
Do not have Nintendo Network ID tied to a single device
If possible, backwards compatibility
Cross purchase/multiplayer system
Controller options
In terms of games, Nintendo needs to focus on a deliver a strong lineup of first and second party titles. We need variety in both genre and demographic appeal. Adopt a Disney-esque philosophy by utilizing established IPs sparingly to avoid over saturation while also expand your war chest with acquired and/or new IPs. Nintendo is not going to get full third party support, so that's something people need to stop asking for. If the NX is what I think it is (multiple form factors, one common OS and architecture, 80% of library shared) then this idea is appealing to the Japanese publishers. Nintendo has a high chance of gaining strong Japanese third party support, potentially even stronger than Sony's. Continue supporting indie devs and you will receive more support from them. Mobile publishers/developers like GungHo and Supercell are going to be very important in the foreseeable future, so it's best to recruit them now whether we like it or not. Support from western publishers is going to be a difficult challenge for Nintendo. The only AAA western publishers I see giving Nintendo a second chance are Activision, WB Games and Ubisoft, and I don't mean just getting their casual, family-orientated titles. The rest will not be there initially and it might take at least a decade in recruiting. Smaller western publishers like Deep Silver and Devolver Digital are easier to recruit, however.
OK firstly I am fairly new to the forums, and after a few clicks I hope I found the correct thread for this topic. I do hope the "ideas thread" get's sticky for easy finding.
Ok secondly...what I would like to see. I would have them make the "Nintendo Party". It is a whole and complete console to replace the Wii U. It will feature something unique for Nintendo. Instead of innovating on a unique hardware idea, they would instead focus on software and first party games.
When you boot up the Nintendo Party console you will go through setup and then the Mii characters will look similar to Smash Bros. Instead of a clunky interface like we have been seeing you will literally enter a Nintendoland-esq MMO style world. Think a well done Nintendo themed Playstation Home. It would feature something unique though called "party mode". Pre-installed on the console will be light, trial type versions of all their top first party games....Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Splatoon and Mario Party. You can join a "party" with other players and go through a random playlist of various games and modes. Essentially creating a playlist from all those games.
Besides "party" mode would be the progression system which will allow your Mii to level up, acquire items such as outfits, hats and stuff for your player house. Yes player housing would be there and have geeky virtual spaces for your games library and collectibles including your Amiibos.
Also player to player interaction will allow you to make friends, start a game or duel. If you own a particular title and the other person does too you can challenge them to...
Battle in Smash
Race
A Sports match in the new Sports Arena
Pokemon Battle
So if you own Pokenmon on the 3DS you can challenge others within Nintendoland and you will essentially be playing the game through the NX. However it will be accessing your Pokemon from the handheld save that has been synced via the cloud.
Not only will the console has this new Nintendoland interface and game, but it will feature lands you can unlock by purchasing titles. If you buy Super Mario Platformer the Mushroom Kingdom opens up as a game space for you to quest in.
A standard menu will exist as well for when you need to adjust settings or just get to a game or something.
The console itself will be bigger then the Wii U and capable of supporting games like Destiny, but will have a bright colored look and feel like a fun party filled games console. Not a media centre.

I actually want to see them re-use an old idea.. go back to the textured matte design instead of the shiny, glossy material they've been using lately. Sure it looks nice in pictures.. but human hands are icky and make them look like crap.

I actually prefer glossy. Glossy may look ugly with fingerprints, but matte looks ugly all the time.

The NX is going to be delayed to Holiday 2017 you heard it here first, also It should be pretty obvious what my favorite game of all time is cough Skyward Sword cough
Unified account, cloud saves, multiple gamepads that can be used at once, Nvidia GPU, Intel CPU, 16-24 GBs of RAM that can be upgraded still like the N64, bluray drive that needs to download the optional firmware (payable) to play Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, multiple layer drive to read duel layer or more discs, optional external drive to play all previous discs from all previous machines, apps for Netflix and google play movies, allowance for various browsers, every Nintendo game ever made ready for handheld and console, Linux OS,

Compare the top of a Pro Controller or GamePad to the underside. I strongly disagree....
To be fair, I like certain colors in matte, black for example.
But if you ask me, brighter primary colors look AWFUL in matte. Compare the Red 3DS XL to the old red GBA SP. If you ask me, the former looks like a toy, while the latter looks sleek with a car-like sheen.

Yeah it doesn't have to be ultra powerful. It needs to sell well and be easy to port to. It just needs to be powerful enough to support all the engines at an adequate level.

Architecture that is easy to develop for and slightly above current console specs.
A decent hard drive size (500GB at least).
The console to be both a handheld and a home console, eliminating the gap between the two. Make it possible for games to be played on the home console, and to be continued on the handheld device with no loss of quality. That would change everything. The handheld portion would also be the only controller you'd need for the system and could be synced up to any other console.
Have a decent operating system that is fast, efficient and easy to navigate. It should unify both the handheld and home console parts of the platform.
For games:
New 1st party IPs. Nintendo need to put more trust in their younger designers and stop relying on the old guard of their development staff. Splatoon was a great game and a huge success. Keep that mantra in mind and allow younger designers to have more say in the direction of their games.
Shift Zelda to NX completely.
Establish stronger ties to third parties and put much more promotion on their games. A lot of great Wii games failed because of the lack of awareness upon release. It looks like they're doing this with Square Enix which is a good sign.
If Nintendo are interested in indies, they should go all in and secure exclusivity for a lot more. Right now, there aren't too many indie games worth buying because they'll be ported to other platforms or arrive late on Wii U.
Also, make a new Metroid, a Pokemon MMO with a single player campaign, a new Advance Wars, and a new full 3D Mario game which isn't in the vein of previous ideas.
And a really nuts idea - buy Konami's IPs for Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill for Nintendo exclusive games. Allow Kojima and Del Toro to finish Silent Hills.
