Topic: What Games Do We Want?

I may be in the minority here but I still want to see rotation in Nintendo non AAA games, so for the Switch I want to see,

Fire Emblem series
Chibi-Robo series
Earthbound (Mother) series
F-Zero series
Kid Icarus series
Metroid series
Advance Wars series
Punch-Out series
Rhythm Heaven series
WarioWare series

These I would combine into a single game.
Wave Race series
Pilot Wings
Wii Sports

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.

I don't get the demand for Stars at all, why would you WANT to buy basically the same game we just played last year all over again this year and pay an extra $300 for? Especially when the series has gone beyond regular old third versions and we've had sequels that have done much more (and from the description of this rumor, this is a third version and not a sequel). This is exactly the kind of lazy, business minded approach that benefits the developers and not the fans, much like the NSMB games.

Also doesn't really fit Game Freak's MO either since they don't like being too formulaic and they don't like rushing to new hardware.

So is the simultaneous release of two slightly difference version, so I wouldn't be surprised.

At least in that case most people aren't buying both versions, with Stars they will be, there'll be far too few people buying a Switch that haven't played SM.

As someone who has a copy of Moon and is interested in Stars let me defend this position. Firstly, nobody is paying $300 (or like $550AU presumably) for Pokemon Stars specifically. If you're going to do that sort of maths then surely, at the very most, the cost of the system is spread out over all of the games you get for it. If the Switch is a stand-alone Nintendo system for this generation and I get as many games as I did in previous generations? That works out to be something like $10AU per retail release. For me at least.

The second side of the equation is what will be different about Stars. You say it'll be the same game but if it's on the Switch it's not going to be the same game. At the very least it's going to perform better and push better visuals than the 3DS version. Combine that with faster load times? Yeah, that's enough to make me consider buying the game again. In the same way that there was value in getting Smash Bros for Wii U even if you owned Smash Bros for 3DS.

I'd like to see Metroid Breath of the Wild.

Basically I imagine it as exactly the same as Zelda Breath of the Wild but with slightly more alien wildlife and laser cannons instead of swords.

Other than that I'm happy with what we're getting so far. We're getting sequels to the relatively new and still fresh IP from Nintendo in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Splatoon 2. We're getting Nintendo taking on something very new for them in ARMs (which I think looks great but will struggle to make the same impact as Splatoon because the genre is far more niche). We're getting a new 3d Mario that looks to be very inventive.

I suppose I'd be interested to see Nintendo tackle the MOBA genre with a new IP. It's not a genre that I've ever dabbled in - it seems like too much of an involved genre to me - and I don't think that Nintendo is positioned to challenge the likes of DOTA2 for popularity but I think it's an interesting genre with obvious appeal but with what seem to be a few very stale conventions that are offputting for newcomers. I think that with a bit of clever thinking and confidence Nintendo could do for that genre what they did for online shooters with Splatoon.

The other major genre as yet untouched by Nintendo that's massively popular but with massive structural flaws in almost all cases is the MMO RPG. I'd love to see Nintendo take the "Breath of the Wild" axe to MMO's - making a game with no "hard levelling" (or grinding!) and great combat controls. Again a new IP would be preferable here.

Aside from those I'd like to see Nintendo port quite a lot of games to the Switch. Mario Maker is a platform and should be ported. We might never get another multiplayer 3D Mario game so I think that Mario 3D World should always be available (and it'd be great on a handheld). Donkey Kong Returns and Tropical Freeze need to be packaged together (with the former in HD) etc.

I think that Nintendo is being coy with its ports at the moment. They don't want the perception that the Switch is being swamped with ports them so I they won't have more than one or two announced at any one time but I'm certain that we'll eventually we'll get loads on Switch. It's the easiest way for them to single-handedly fill out the spring/summer release schedule without blowing a new release at a sub-optimal time of year.

I would like Valkyria Chronicles. They could port the hd remaster...

I want to see a virtual console with a library stretching across all the Nintendo platforms. The only issue are the dual-screen titles, I guess, but I'd like to see at least some of those games converted. TBH, I just want to start playing Fire Emblem and Mega Man titles from the GBA versions onwards...

As for new stuff, I'm pretty happy with what's coming, particularly the next instalments of Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest and Xenoblade. And as stated elsewhere, a Metroid Breath of the Wild needs to happen. And give us a Switch Monster Hunter too.

Not everyone is going to buying a lot of games for Switch. A lot of people will probably only get a few.

Slightly better performance doesn't make something not the same game. You're still playing the game the same way with the same gameplay mechanics doing the same things. Stars is closer to a port like MK8D than a new game. Only unlike with MK8D, there isn't a huge demographic of players that haven't played the original that wanted to. And there's going to be even less people that would be interested in it just 1 year after the original.

Never going to happen since Microsoft owns Rare now. Any new Conker game would be on an Xbox console, not a Nintendo console.

New western third party IP's and games from R* (Manhunt, GTA, The Warriors). We already have the first-party titles, the JRPG's, the indies and the children friendly games.

From Nintendo... Wave Race

From third parties... Resident Evil: Revelations, Revelations 2 and VII, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, whatever the next Assassin's Creed is, Red Steel 3 (should have been a no-brainer for launch), Madden NFL, a new Splinter Cell game.

Aside from Red Steel, which has always been exclusive to Nintendo, none of the other games are exclusives so there is absolutely zero reason Nintendo gamers who want to play these on their system of choice should have to miss out.

Ports:
1. Doom 2016: I know this game gets a lot of its energy from detailed graphics and superior sound quality. The Switch will not be able to match the PC or PS4 experience. But it is also the freshest FPS on the market and I would still be able to enjoy it with decreased visual performance and compressed stereo sound.
2. Dragon Quest Builders: It's a better Minecraft with classic and enjoyable music. It was released on Vita and there is a PS3 version out in Japan. It should be no problem to port it over to the Switch. I'd buy it immediately.

Unofficial:
1. Okami HD or a new title from the series: Make use of the touch screen and actually draw with the brush! Would be perfect. For a new title, I would wish for bigger landscapes and some inspiration from the latest Zelda.
2. Super Mario 3D Worlds: Local multiplayer FTW! Not announced yet, but not a wild guess at this point.
