It's probably not the top factor. The top factors are probably pre-established fanbase and marketing budget. But graphics is definitely way up there as one of the main factors.

It's not clear how much it's down to the effect graphics have on marketing (it's easier to draw people's attention), or if it's just that people really want to be looking at something pretty while they play.

I've noticed with myself that once I get into the game, I don't care that much what it looks like. But I'm less likely to try and get into it in the first place if it's ugly.

@OorWullie
The dock USB thing is just risky. Remove a micro SD while running a game from it, and it’s not pretty. You shouldn’t even remove them with the system power on.

But microSD are up to 1TB now, so it’s not that bad.

Back when the Switch launched at 256gb was the largest there was, it was a serious concern. But we’re up to the terabyte range now. 512gb routinely on sale for $60 range.

Yea, I think you guys are underplaying how bad it would be to suddenly remove the Switch from the dock if it was reading from an external drive plugged into the dock.

It's generally never a good idea to suddenly disconnect a piece of tech that's actively reading another piece of tech (USBs in a PC, for instance) - at the very least you run the risk of corrupting the data on the drive. At the most, you could potentially damage the Switch itself.

I could just imagine the horror stories of people bricking their systems by pulling them out of docks that were reading data from external drives. It would be a PR nightmare. It makes sense to me to not allow those drives.

@JaxonH I'd imagine that the Switch's success is in part why microSD card prices have dropped so fast.

@Ninfan I'd die for a remaster of VJ 1&2. Double Trouble too, though I can't imagine how that would work. Never did get to play Red Hot Rumble.

Oh, and the GameCube Controller adapter is a use for the USB, and I believe you could also connect a Bluetooth headset via a USB dongle as well. I personally use one to connect my joycon charging station to give it power.

@Grumblevolcano

Wouldn't that cause the opposite? More demand, same supply-> higher prices.

@OorWullie I’ve accidentally removed a cartridge while the game on it was running before (I left it running overnight and forgot when I went to change games the next day), and it just immediately closed the game and gave me a warning not to do it again. I would imagine that something similar would happen if you removed the Switch from the dock while running from the hard drive. Another potential problem is accidental removals. Depending on where you keep your Switch, it could potentially be pretty easy to accidentally knock it and unseat it from the connection. All it takes is a single second while you’re in the middle of saving your game... and the results would most likely not be pretty.

@Dezzy I was thinking more about the technological advancements. Switch is very successful so more money is put into research that will help larger microSD cards be possible hence larger cards come out faster which as a result reduces the price of the smaller cards.

@Grumblevolcano

It's possible I guess. Have the larger cards come out in a similar timeframe to the Switch launch then?

I recently downloaded Xenoblade Chronicles 2 when it was on sale and with the first game being remastered, and as a game I never played when first came out, I want to ask if it’s going to have the combat system upgraded to be in line with that of the sequel as I understand it’s more complex in Xenoblade Chronicles 2?

@FragRed

I doubt they'll change the combat system. The combat system is different in every game. It's even different in the Torna expansion for XC2. They obviously like it like that.
It's a great system in XC1 anyway. It's not inferior, it's just different.

@Dezzy Okay that’s cool, thanks for that. I’m really excited to get into these games. I’ve heard lots of good things and I’ve always wanted to play them.

@Dezzy Let's put it this way. Before Switch in 2017 256GB was hella costly.

By the end of 2017 it was cheaper because suddenly 400gb exists. That cost an arm and a leg.

Then 512 happened. Then 1TB. Now the 400gb card doesn't cost $300.

Legitimate question for those to whom this applies: why are people so crazy about playing the same games again? It has been this way with the Virtual Console/NSO ever since they started it on the Wii. Everyone keeps complaining when they add these games no one has ever heard of because they just want to play the same ones they've already played a million times and probably already have in 3 different forms? I love when they put these strange games on NSO because they are new experiences. Now people are dying for more news on the Xenoblade remaster and desperately want X ported to Switch. These are great games and I understand for those who have never played them, but with so many other great games on Switch and so little time to play them, why on earth are you dying so hard to replay a 100 hour game that you've already played before?

@Xyphon22 Well they know and like the content so they want it available all in one place instead of across multiple mediums. It's not much different than the music debate about classics and big hits vs. new obscure music.

@Xyphon22 first game I remember getting rereleased was resident evil, it had been on PlayStation but it had not been bought by many people, when it was rerelesed on gamecube a lot of people bought it after playing eternal darkness as it felt like playing another eternal darkness. A game @link3710 mentioned there ,viewtiful Joe was €200 when it came out nearly 20 years ago. But it was brilliant. Totally new, what I would say is don't release a bad game, maybe some games shouldn't be rereleased if there not very good. You made a good point !

Did anyone play DANGER MOUSE: THE DANGER GAMES on switch. Is it any good ?
