It would be more interesting if 2D Mario further evolved 3D Mario's moveset, like how Donkey Kong '94 did. NSMB had the triple jump and wall jump (ground pound was introduced in Yoshi's Island), but that's it. I wonder if it could add things like the roll from 3D World/Odyssey, although 2D and 3D game design are both extremely different from each other with different actions. 3D Mario is much more "stop-and-go" compared to 2D Mario.

Nice. Happy for Diablo fans - I don't think I'm going to buy it since I have a backlog to take care of and I've never ever played Diablo in my life, but it's good it's coming to the Switch.

@JaxonH And THIS is why they wanted those ugly banners on the front of Switch cases. To avoid this sort of confusion.
I don't think we know enough yet to definitely say its all on the game card.
If nothing else, it could be a DOOM situation where the base game is on the cart, but it still prompts you to download extra content + multiplayer stuff.
But, yes, this is another huge bit of third party support, and I'm quite looking forward to it!
@JaxonH the box art for nba 2k18 was updated after the initial announcement with the Requires download bar. Until blizzard says one way or the other it's 50/50
@Knuckles-Fajita I'm thinking XCX (and I'm still hoping for an XC1 port. Wii was LE, 3DS was meh(meh-meeh!), WiiU....not hooking that up again to play XC1) will be next year. This year they have a new retail XC in Torna:GC, so they're not going to overshadow the new stuff for the old stuff.
@Octane It's true. Back on NES, you had SMB. Run in lines, jump things, warp in pipes. SMB2 Throw turnips and carry keys and ride on magic carpets. SMB3: Mario is a furry because. And it had the whole music note/theater thing. SMBW: Ok fine he rides a dinosaur and flies with a cape. SMBW2: You are the dinosaur. And Mario is an infant. And the whole thing is in crayon. Staring with Wii we get: Run in lines, jump things, warp in pipes. In every game. And that was after a 2 generation absence of 2D mario. And the original creators still producing them. Huh?
But then again, the upper management wanted SMB2 to be just more SMB all the way back then. Management never wanted to change the formula in the ways that made 2, 3, and World great. And Miyamoto's draft for SMBW2 was rejected....they wanted more SMBW. Maybe the big thing that changed is Miyamoto doesn't buck the system like he used to since he joined the system.
@NEStalgia I've said before that they should expand on the 2D 8-bit sections of Mario Odyssey. Like how Captain Toad got his own game because of 3D World. Some Zelda Link Between Worlds wall swapping, foreground, background gameplay. Would be more unique than any of the NSMB games, and that's by recycling an existing idea
@Octane Completely agree. I thought the same thing with some of the more unique 2D sections like around the pillars. Knowing Nintendo, though, they haven't made the connection themselves yet
@MisterPi How is this game not a fit for Switch? It's a game that arguably controls best with a controller despite the rest of the series being fit for mouse (they did a heck of a job with the controller ports back for P3/4), supports 4-way couch-co-op, and is a long time sucking RPG beautifully fit for handheld play, both with pick up and play or long sessions, and isn't really a flashy graphics showcase. It's pretty much the poster child for what Switch excels at.
@Ralizah Blizzard has, like Nintendo, always used low spec graphics to meet a wide variety of PC specs. It's one of their reasons for their long term success. I bet the magic Nintendo compression works as well for their assets as it does for Nintendos. The whole thing is only 47GB or so with the X1X 4k patches. There's a reason Korean internet cafes with POS computers could still play StarCraft all those years!
@Knuckles-Fajita Not many people here would say XC2 is terrible! Most of the complaints I've heard are "I don't like the revealing clothing because I'm white knighting" (meanwhile women I know that play hadn't even noticed until I mentioned the controversy. Then still didn't notice. ) And people complaining about the story which I think is simple and fine, nothing mind blowing like the first one but also a lot more coherent than the first one.
I have some very specific complaints about navigation, questing, HM slave...err....blade affinities....that I believe are unforgivable (you can read about my endless complaints in the XC2 thread ) but I still love the game overall. I'm curious what you dislike about it?
