@IceClimbers Oh really? Then that is worrying. Capcom have effectively abandoned their home market where it sells best. Can't see it doing too well on a home console that doesn't sell well there to begin with.

Capcom wants to make more money. They do this by spending more time and money on a game ignoring their biggest domestic markets and ignoring their not to be scoffed at Western market that appeard because of the eDS.

And they want to make MORE money? There is so little logic to this madness

I think they're hoping to get lucky and see the series become the next western sensation but, we're not like Japan. The masses want Destiny and Overwatch, not Monster Hunter.

Even so, the game will be sold at $60 rather than $40 so, 4m sales will be the same as 6m on 3DS. And, they're playing the long game. Even if it makes no more money than past entries, if they can build a base of 3 mil+ in the west, they can stop milking Japan so much and use their Team A/Team B split to release games for both markets.

I also think 3DS is in it's twilight and we likely won't see another MH game on it. Luckily for Capcom, Switch will be there to take it's place.

More Capcom awkwardness confirmed, Okami HD is coming to PS4 and XB1 but not Switch.

Don't forget Capcom loves to set extremely high expectations on the games they release in the West. Sometimes believing they'll hit double figures! And then seeing it fail to reach anywhere near these numbers.

Okami HD would be hugely welcome. Release it at the same time as the others then it sells well and passes the Capcom test. Release it, if it all months later then it sells poorly. They said they're assessing what games to bring to Switch. If Okami HD, Disney and Megaman Collection don't fit then what does?

Bandai Namco promise future Switch support

Bandai Namco Entertainment have promised future Nintendo Switch support to investors stating that “We will continue to introduce Nintendo Switch titles from July one after another”.

It's not really saying a lot but it's something. Nintendo have given them a lot of business over the years and we've not got a huge amount in return. I at least think they're working on an expanded version of Smash Bros. Wii U.

I left that line dangling because I thought someone might bite. I didn't expect it'd be you though!

Regardless there was a point to me saying it - most people will see it as a PS4 exclusive. Like you point out it makes selling AAA third party games on Switch much harder and it wouldn't be easy to begin with because of differences in the demographics of the Switch userbase.

People talk a lot about Nintendo not understanding 'online' but I don't think that's held them back. They definitely did not however understand the way that marketing support and exclusivity would become increasingly important. Either that or they understood and they just decided they didn't want to pay in to that game when it was really taking off during the Wii years.

I'd go so far as to say that failing to understand and spend the money to nurture meaningful relationships was perhaps the biggest single reason that the Wii U failed (as part of a much broader marketing facepalm). It had the third party games it needed but they didn't sell and Nintendo was powerless to help them sell because exclusivity deals didn't allow them to advertise (short of selling a lot more Wii U's quickly on the strength of their own first party games).

In other words - Nintendo thought games consoles sold on the strengths of their games because that's always been commonly received wisdom but Sony (correctly and astutely) realised that the marketing of those games was much more important.

@kkslider5552000 I've said the same thing in the past. Sony doesn't really have any like-for-like competition any more so paying the amounts they must for 'marketing exclusivity' may be just a waste of money since Microsoft aren't playing the game any more.

At some point Sony executives will probably stop their management from paying out such large amounts and it'll blow a hole in the 3rd parties that are currently very cosy with them because they have no where else to turn to replace that money.

@StuTwo Here's the thing.

Look at a game like Street Fighter V. Sony probay paid enough to offset that but it didnt hit its audience. Its focus was limited to a small subset of two systems.

Then look at the upcoming FIFA. Great on a portable but Sony wont allow them to talk about it, and rightfully so because it has a selling point.

And is anyone willing to take bets that isnt what is happening with DQXI? Switch would trump the PS4 version in Japan but its not under threat from the 3DS edition.

Im looking at Sony and I see them being paranoid. There stance on cross platform play came off as very disingenuous and lord those the whole "EU is Fortress PlayStation and we wont allow anyone to get a single piece of it" shows at least something is threatening them.

Watch. They'll do something when Mario Odyssey lands.

Thing is one day Sony will have to stop paying third parties either through shareholder insistence or legal action (Because with each passing day its getting ever so slightly more monopolising) at which point what do they do? They already shedded most of their IP they made in the PS1-3 era and even their dev teams are slower cheuning out admittedly great games but that first party library of theirs simply isnt strong enough. The games are great but lack oomph.

And thats the thing. The brand is the house built by third parties and moneyhatting. The PS4 has been a legitimate epitomy of that and it worries me, because Sony is in a position to just bully everyone else out and silence things that might impact their share.

@BLP_Software I think Sony's plan will be drop the PS4 Slim and Pro prices as well as having more bundles with big 3rd party games (e.g. Crash, CoD WWII, Destiny 2, FIFA 18). So something like this for the base consoles:
500GB = £175
1TB = £225
1TB Pro = £275

The sale starting on Super Mario Odyssey's launch date for about a week and then return during Black Friday and Christmas sales but not mentioned until after the initial sale is over.

@MegaTen Exclusive marketing rights means just that. Ads only for this system. Brief mentions at most for the others.

This is...slightly concerning.

Did you know? The DS4 still uses the same button mechanics as the 80's! Nobody had a problem with the Wii U rumble, but now it's suddenly an issue when Sony used that same tech?

@Octane Hey Im just sending what has been said.

Rumble has evolved. Even the jump to Gamecube and Wii had minute differences in intensity. The DS4 is very much still like it was in the DS2 while both Microsoft (allegedly) and Nintendo just took it to new places.

Im not slamming the DS4 rumble features. Nor does it really bother me. Its just interesting to note that Sony has just kind of stagnated that aspects of their controllers.
